Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the behavioral and emotional problems associated with nocturnal enuresis in Korean children. Methods : Three hundred eighteen children with nocturnal enuresis, together with their parents, completed the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), Disruptive Behavior Disorder Scale according to DSM-IV (DBDS), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), and Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale (PHCSC). Ninety-three normal students were selected as the control group. Results : Compared to the normal control group, the mean scores with regard to the withdrawn, social problems, attention problems, delinquent behavior, aggressive behavior, externalizing problems and total problems profiles were significantly higher in the nocturnal enuresis group according to the CBCL results. The nocturnal enuresis group also scored significantly higher in the ADHD and ODD profiles of the DBDS. The nocturnal enuresis group was more depressed and anxious than the control group according to the results of the CDI and STAI. The mean score of the PHCSC was significantly lower in the nocturnal enuresis group when compared to the normal control group. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that children with nocturnal enuresis in Korea have clinically relevant behavioral and emotional problems. The findings support the link between nocturnal enuresis and psychopathology in Korean children.

Background: Coinfections with multiple nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) species have not been widely studied. We aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in patients with NTM-pulmonary disease (PD) caused by coinfection with multiple NTM species. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with NTM-PD at a tertiary referral hospital in Korea between March 2012 and December 2018. Coinfection was defined as two or more species of NTM pathogens isolated from the same respiratory specimen or different specimens within three months. Results: Among 1,009 patients with NTM-PD, 147 (14.6%) NTM coinfections were observed (average age 64.7 years, 69.4% women). NTM species were identified more frequently (median 6 vs. 3 times, P < 0.001) in the coinfection group than in the single species group, and follow-up duration was also longer in the coinfection group (median 44.9 vs. 27.1 months, P < 0.001). Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) and M. abscessus and M. massiliense (MAB) were the dominant combinations (n = 71, 48.3%). For patients treated for over six months in the MAC plus MAB group (n = 31), sputum culture conversion and microbiological cure were achieved in 67.7% and 41.9% of patients, respectively. We divided the MAC plus MAB coinfection group into three subgroups according to the target mycobacteria; however, no statistical differences were found in the treatment outcomes. Conclusion: In NTM-PD cases, a significant number of multiple NTM species coinfections occurred. Proper identification of all cultured NTM species through follow-up is necessary to detect multispecies coinfections. Further research is needed to understand the nature of NTM-PD in such cases.

<P>Resonance effects in the thickness-dependent ultrafast carrier and phonon dynamics of topological insulator Bi2Se3 are found irrespective of the kind of substrate by measuring thickness-dependent abrupt changes of pump-probe differential-reflectivity signals (Δ<I>R</I>/<I>R</I>) from Bi2Se3 thin films on four different substrates of poly- and single-crystalline (sc-) ZnO, sc-GaN and SiO2. The absolute peak intensity of the Δ<I>R</I>/<I>R</I> is maximized at ∼<I>t</I> C (6 ∼ 9 quintuple layers), which is not directly related to but is very close to the critical thickness below which the energy gap opens. The intensities of the two phonon modes deduced from the oscillatory behaviors superimposed on the Δ<I>R</I>/<I>R</I> profiles are also peaked at ∼<I>t</I> C for the four kinds of substrates, consistent with the thickness-dependent Raman-scattering behaviors. These resonant effects and others are discussed based on possible physical mechanisms including the effects of three-dimensional carrier depletion and intersurface coupling.</P>

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of osteosynthesis using compression hip screw fixation versus bipolar hemiarthroplasty in AO type A2 intertrochanteric fractures. Materials and Methods: From March 2003 to December 2009, 89 patients were included in this study. They were treated using compression hip screws (43 cases) or bipolar hemiarthroplasty (46 cases). The mean age of patients was 77.7 years (65-94 years) and the mean follow-up period was 5.9 years (1-8.3 years). For comparison of the outcomes in the two groups, statistical analyses were performed with parameters including anesthesia time, operation time, amount of transfusion, hospital stay, general complications, clinical outcome, time of partial weight-bearing using a walker, and radiological failure rate. Results: Differences in the amount of transfusion, general complications, and clinical outcome (Merle d’Aubigne´ and Postel score) were not statistically significant between the two groups. The bipolar hemiarthroplasty group showed better results than the compression hip screw group for anesthesia time and the time of partial weight-bearing using a walker. Radiological failures were observed in hips in one case (2.2%) of bipolar hemiarthroplasty, and in four cases (9.3%) of compression hip screw fixation. Conclusion: Among elderly individuals with AO type A2 intertrochanteric fractures, patients treated with bipolar hemiarthroplasty were able to perform early ambulation. However, no significant difference in operation time, amount of postoperative transfusion, clinical results, hospital stay, and radiological failure rate was observed between the bipolar hemiarthroplasty and compression hip screw fixation groups.

Objective To investigate the change of maternal characteristics, delivery and neonatal outcomes in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) over recent 10 years and to identify the risk factors associated with adverse outcome. Methods Consecutive GDM patients (n=947) delivered in our institution were included. Research period was arbitrarily divided into 2 periods (period 1: from 2006 to 2010, period 2: from 2011 to 2015). Multiple pregnancies or preexisting diabetes were excluded. Maternal baseline characteristics, delivery and neonatal outcomes were reviewed. Fetal biometric findings by prenatal ultrasonography were collected. Adverse pregnancy outcome (APO) was defined by the presence of one of the followings; shoulder dystocia, neonatal macrosomia (>4 kg), neonatal hypoglycemia (<35 mg/dL), respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in term pregnancy. Results Period 2 was associated with older maternal age (34 vs. 33, P<0.001) and higher proportion of GDM A2 compared to period 1 (30.9% vs. 23.0%, P=0.009). By univariate analysis, APO was associated with increased body mass index (BMI) at pre-pregnancy (23.4 kg/㎡ vs. 21.8 kg/㎡, P=0.001) or delivery (27.9 kg/㎡ vs. 25.8 kg/㎡, P<0.001), higher HbA1c at diagnosis (5.6% vs. 5.3%, P<0.001) or delivery (5.8% vs. 5.5%, P=0.044), and larger fetal biometric findings (abdominal circumference [AC] and estimated fetal weight, P=0.029 and P=0.007, respectively). Multivariate analysis showed pre-pregnancy BMI (odds ratio [OR], 1.101; 90% confidence interval [CI], 1.028-1.180) and fetal AC (OR, 1.218; 90% CI, 1.012-1.466) were independently associated with adverse outcomes. Conclusion Our study demonstrated the trends and relevant factors associated with the adverse outcomes.

Purpose: We evaluated the results of revision total hip arthroplasty using a Wagner revision femoral stem. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 54 patients who underwent hip arthroplasty using a Wagner revision stem between 1996 and 2004. The mean age at revision surgery was 65.4 years and the mean follow up period was 7.2 years. There were 42 aseptic loosenings and 12 periprosthetic fractures. The pre-operative femoral defects were classified according to the Paprosky classification system. Clinical and radiological results were evaluated. Results: The mean Harris hip score improved from 43 preoperatively to 89 at the latest follow up. There were 2 cases with inguinal pain and 1 with thigh pain; in each case pain was reduced by medications. All cases showed endosteal bone formation around the stem. Five cases showed radiolucency in Gruen zones 1 and 7. Six cases had hips that showed subsidence (average=3.1 mm). There was 1 dislocation (1.8%) and 1 intraoperative periprosthetic fracture (1.8%). There were no re-revisions. Conclusion: Use of a Wagner revision femoral stem for revision total hip arthroplasty elicits satisfactory results including stable fixation of the stem, a low rate of subsidence, and a low rate of dislocation.

Background Until now, there is no validated clinical biomarker of nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) in terms of evaluating disease severity or treatment response. Limited data suggests that elevated serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) is observed in the patients with NTM-PD, and the level decreases following the successful NTM-PD treatment. Methods This retrospective study examined 79 NTM-PD patients who conducted both measurement of serum CA 19-9 level and chest computed tomography (CT) scan, less than a month apart. The NTM-PD disease severity were rated by the scoring system based on CT images. Correlation between the CT score and the serum level of CA 19-9 were evaluated by using Spearman’s correlation coefficient and Spearman’s partial correlation coefficient, and the latter was controlled for the variables of age, sex and body mass index (BMI). Results Serum CA 19-9 levels had a positive correlation with the CT score, especially for the score of total (rs=.416, p<0.01), and the sub-score of bronchiectasis (rs=.251, p<0.05), bronchiolitis (rs=.289, p<0.01), cavity (rs=.221, p<0.05), and consolidation (rs=.303, p<0.01). Patients’ BMI had a negative correlation with the CT score (rs=-.358, p<0.01), but had no significant correlation with serum CA 19-9 level itself. After controlling for the variables of age, sex and BMI, partial correlation analysis showed statistically significant positive correlation between serum CA 19-9 level and the CT score of bronchiectasis, bronchiolitis, cavity, consolidation, and total sum (Table 1). Conclusion Serum CA 19-9 levels had a positive correlation with the CT severity score of NTM-PD. Serum CA 19-9 may be a useful biological marker for evaluating disease activity or therapeutic response in the patients with NTM-PD, and further study is warranted.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) with an ABG I hip prosthesis after a minimum ten-year follow up. Materials and Methods: From January 1996 to March 2001, 121 hips in 104 patients, whi were followed up for a minimum of ten-years, were enrolled in this study. The clinical and radiographic outcomes were evaluated and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed. Results: The mean Harris hip score at the last follow-up was 84 points. A radiolucent line around the cup, osteolysis, and cup loosening were observed in 5 hips(4.1%), 53 hips(43.8%), and 5 hips(4.1%), respectively. In the femoral side, osteolysis and stem loosening were observed in 11 hips(9.1%) and 2 hips(1.7%), respectively. The mean linear wear rate of the polyethylene liner was 0.23 mm/yr. Forty four revisions(36.3%) were performed. The outcomes were similar regardless of the cause of primary THA. The survival rate with the end point of revision due to cup loosening was 56.3%, and revision due to stem loosening was 98.1% after a 16 year follow-up. Conclusion: High polyethylene wear and the disappointing survival rate of the ABGI cup were observed after a minimum ten year follow-up. Therefore, close observation of patients who have received an ABG I prosthesis is necessary.
