The Concepts and Methods of Entrepreneurship Education in the Social Studies and the Period for Integrated Study in Japan

        Yamane, Eiji 한국경제교육학회 2002 경제교육연구 Vol.9 No.1

Entrepreneurship education becomes a very important educational area at schools in Jhpan. A new ctlrriculum area named the "Period for Integrated Study" (PIS) started from April 2002 at elementary schools and lower secondary schools in Japan. The author believes entrepreneurship education is very suitable to the PIS. This paper reports the characteristics of the PIS, the meaning of entrepreneurship, and the present situation of entrepreneurship education at elementary schools and junior high schoals, in Japan. Entrepreneurship education becomes a very important educational area at schools in Japan. Based on the last curriculum revision in 1998, a new curriculum area named the Period for Integrated Study (PIS) started from April 2002 at elementary schools and lower secondary schools in Japan. The Ministry of Education described the aims and the characteristics of the PIS: The PIS aims at helping children develop the capability and ability to discover problems by themselves and solve those problems properly; Interdisciplinary and comprehensive studies, which reflect each individual school's efforts, and studies based upon children's own interests will help achieve this goal; It also aims at helping children discover how to learn and reason, develop a mind independently and creatively cope with problem-solving activities and/or inquiring activities, and deepen their understanding of their own way of life; It is assumed that children s knowledge and skills acquired in individual classes will be related with each other and deepened through the activities in the PIS and then they will work comprehensively for children. After the year of 1991, when the so-called Bubble Economy (enthusiastic economic boom) in Japan burst and the Soviet Union was collapsed, many people, particularly leaders in business world, economists and bureaucrats in the MITI(Ministry of International Trade and Industries) have been advocating the importance of entrepreneurship for recovering Japan's economy. The author thinks that entrepreneurship education in the schools should be populated in the PIS. There are some types of entrepreneurship education and enterprise education in the PIS. In the elementary schools, the popular work related activities are: First; growing and cultivating rice, some kind of vegetables particularly by the environmentally friendly method; no chemical, using organic fertilizer. Second; making some traditional processed foods like Tofu, Miso (paste made from soybeans, using for soup), Japanese sweets or cake, and Japanese noodles. Third; making some traditional products like cloth, string, pottery, and Japanese paper, in some cases getting materials of the products; growing cotton, rearing silkworms and so on. In the lower secondary schools, students' work experience is popular especially in the 8th grade. In many cases, students have a work experience for 2 or 3 days, at most for a week, at a farm or fishery, at a manufacturing factory, at a service shop like a flower shop, at a kindergarten or a nursery, and at a social welfare facility in the community. In many cases, a student can select where he/she works and seems to have a delightful work experience. With many schools adopting such work related activities and work experience in the PIS, I think it is a good chance for the entrepreneurship education to grow in Japan. Traditionally in Japan, particularly in an elementary school and a lower secondary school, the link between a school and community business has been very rare. Because, most parents and teachers have the idea that pupils should not be taught how to make money in a school. Introducing the PIS into the school curriculum may improve the atmosphere that makes parents and teachers agree to accept the children's work related activities and work experience in the school and the link between school and community business.

Visualization of Artificially Deposited Submicron-sized Aerosol Particles on the Surfaces of Leaves and Needles in Trees

        Yamane, Kenichi,Nakaba, Satoshi,Yamaguchi, Masahiro,Kuroda, Katsushi,Sano, Yuzou,Lenggoro, I. Wuled,Izuta, Takeshi,Funada, Ryo Korean Society for Atmospheric Environment 2012 Asian Journal of Atmospheric Environment (AJAE) Vol.6 No.4

To understand the effect of aerosols on the growth and physiological conditions of trees in forests, it is important to know the state of aerosols that are deposited on the surface of the leaves or needles. In this study, we developed methods of visualization of submicron-sized aerosols that were artificially deposited from the gas-phase or liquid phase onto tree leaves or needles in trees. Firstly, we used field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) to observe black carbon (BC) particles that were artificially sprayed onto the leaves or needles. The distribution of BC particles deposited on the leaves and needles were distinguished based on the size and morphological features of the particles. The distribution and agglomerates size of BC particles differed between two spraying methods of BC particles employed. Secondly, we tried to visualize gold (Au) particles that were artificially sprayed onto the leaves using energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) coupled to FE-SEM. We detected the Au particles based on the characteristic X-ray spectrum, which was secondarily generated from the Au particles. In contrast to the case of BC particles, the Au particles did not form agglomerates and were uniformly distributed on the leaf surfaces. The present results show that our methods provide useful information of adsorption and/or behavior of fine particles at the submicron level on the surface of the leaves.

Central Functions of Amino Acids for the Stress Response in Chicks

Yamane, H.,Kurauchi, I.,Denbow, D.M.,Furuse, Mitsuhiro Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2009 Animal Bioscience Vol.22 No.2

The nutritional significance of essential amino acids, as well as non-essential amino acids, is well documented in poultry production with regards to growth performance and protein accretion. However, the function of amino acids in the stress response is still unclear. L-Pipecolic acid, a L-lysine metabolite in the brain, induced a hypnotic and sedative effect acting via the ${\gamma}$- aminobutyric acid receptors. L-Arginine also induced a sedative effect via its metabolism to L-ornithine. In addition, three-carbon nonessential amino acids like L-alanine, L-serine and L-cysteine also induced sedative effects. These facts suggest that the requirement for amino acids in both essential and non-essential types may require reconsideration to add the concept of stress amelioration in the future.

Finite element vibration and damping analysis of a partially covered cantilever beam

Yaman, Mustafa Techno-Press 2005 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.19 No.2

There are several ways of decreasing the vibration energy of structures. One of which is special damping layers made of various viscoelastic materials are widely applied in structures subjected to dynamic loading. In this study, a cantilever beam, partially covered by damping a constraining layers, is investigated by using Finite Element method (FEM). The frequency and system loss factor are evaluated. The effects of different physical and geometrical parameters on the natural frequency and system loss factors are discussed.

      • A coupled yeast signal sequence trap and transient plant expression strategy to identify genes encoding secreted proteins from peach pistils

        Yamane, Hisayo,Lee, Sang-Jik,Kim, Byung-Dong,Tao, Ryutaro,Rose, Jocelyn K. C. Oxford University Press 2005 Journal of experimental botany Vol.56 No.418

<P>Many developmental processes and induced plant responses have been identified that are directly or indirectly influenced by wall-localized, or apoplastic, molecular interactions and signalling pathways. The yeast-based signal sequence trap (YSST) is a potentially valuable experimental tool to characterize the proteome of the wall and apoplast, or ‘secretome’, although few studies have been performed with plants and to date this strategy has not been coupled with a subsequent analysis to confirm extracellular localization of candidate proteins <I>in planta</I>. This current report describes the use of the YSST, together with transient expression of a selection of identified proteins as fusions with the reporter GFP, focusing on the complex extracellular interactions between peach (<I>Prunus persica</I>) pollen and pistil tissues. The coupled YSST and GFP localization assay was also used to confirm the extracellular localization of a recently identified pistil-specific basic RNase protein (PA1), as has been observed with S-RNases that are involved in self-incompatibility. This pilot YSST screen of pollinated and unpollinated pistil cDNAs revealed a diverse set of predicted cell wall-localized or plasma membrane-bound proteins, several of which have not previously been described. Transient GFP-fusion assays and RNA gel blot analyses were used to confirm their subcellular localization and to provide further insights into their expression or regulation, respectively. These results demonstrated that the YSST strategy represents an effective means either to confirm the extracellular localization of a specific candidate secreted protein, as demonstrated here with PA1, or to conduct a screen for new extracellular proteins.</P>

Can Auditory and Vestibular Findings Differentiate Vestibular Migraine and Meniere’s Disease?

        Yaman Handan,Polat Burcu,Şerbetçioğlu Mustafa Bülent 대한청각학회 2023 Journal of Audiology & Otology Vol.27 No.2

Background and Objectives: Besides evaluating the auditory and vestibular systems of patients with vestibular migraine (VM) and Meniere’s disease (MD), this study aimed to examine the clinical overlaps between these two conditions by detailed evaluation of the patient’s symptoms.Subjects and Methods: The ears of the patients with VM and MD were evaluated and patients’ vestibular and auditory complaints were questioned particularly. Pure tone audiometry, vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) responses, and caloric test results were evaluated for objective measurements. Results: The VM group had better air-conduction and boneconduction threshold and speech reception threshold and speech discrimination score test values (p<0.05). Regarding the interaural N1-P1 asymmetry ratio, the cervical VEMP between the groups had significant differences (p=0.019). The MD group had more unilateral tinnitus and ear fullness complaints and canal paresis results (p<0.01). The VM group had more motion sickness complaints (p<0.01).Conclusions: If only ears with hearing loss are evaluated; there was no significant difference between VM and MD, but regardless of hearing level or only the patients with normal hearing were evaluated, the VM group had better hearing levels. It should be considered that patients with VM may have VM-independent hearing loss, and patient complaints should be sufficiently detailed to make an accurate distinction from MD.

Articles : The Scope for Policy Coordination between the United States and Europe: Implications of Asymmetric Labor Markets

( Yaman Asikoglu ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 1990 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.5 No.1

This paper emphasizes the structural differences in the American and European. labor markets and examines the implications of these asymmetries for the scope of policy coordination between these economies. Strategic aspects of monetary and fiscal policies are analyzed as a game between a country with real wage rigidity(Europe) and a country with nominal wage rigidity (U.S.). The paper presents simple examples which show that the nature of the noncooperative equilibrium in this asymmetric framework depends on the strategy variables chosen by the countries. Policy coordination is redundant if money supplies are the only instruments used by both players. The noncooperative fiscal policy game is inefficient, and policy coordination becomes redundant again when both monetary and fiscal policies are employed. These results illustrate that an appropriate assignment of policy instruments can be a substitute to policy coordination in generating an efficient solution to the` international policy game.
