Benefical Effects of Sigma-1 Agonist Fluvoxamine for Tardive Dyskinesia and Tardive Akathisia in Patients with Schizophrenia: Report of Three Cases

        Yakup Albayrak,갠지하시모토 대한신경정신의학회 2013 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.10 No.4

Fluvoxamine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that is approved for psychiatric disorders such as major depressive episodes and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Beside inhibition of serotonin reuptake, fluvoxamine is also a potent agonist of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein sigma-1 receptors, which play a role in the pathophysiology of a number of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. This report presents beneficial effects of sigma-1 agonist fluvoxamine on hyperkinetic movement disorders such as tardive dyskinesia and tardive akathisia. Fluvoxamine might be a novel treatmet approach in the treatment of hyperkinetic movement disorders.

HYPERBOLIC SPINOR DARBOUX EQUATIONS OF SPACELIKE CURVES IN MINKOWSKI 3-SPACE

        Yakup Balci,Tulay Erisir,Mehmet Ali Gungor 충청수학회 2015 충청수학회지 Vol.28 No.4

In this paper, we study on spinors with two hyperbolic components. Firstly, we express the hyperbolic spinor representation of a spacelike curve defined on an oriented (spacelike or time-like) surface in Minkowski space R. Then, we obtain the relation between the hyperbolic spinor representation of the Frenet frame of the spacelike curve on oriented surface and Darboux frame of the surface on the same points. Finally, we give one example about these hyperbolic spinors.

A Novel Soft Switching PWM·PFC AC·DC Boost Converter

Yakup Sahin 대한전기학회 2018 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.13 No.1

This study introduces a novel Soft Switching (SS) Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) AC‒DC boost converter. In the proposed converter, the main switch is turned on with Zero Voltage Transition (ZVT) and turned off with Zero Current Transition (ZCT). The main diode is turned on with Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) and turned off with Zero Current Switching (ZCS). The auxiliary switch is turned on and off with ZCS. All auxiliary semiconductor devices are turned on and off with SS. There is no extra current or voltage stress on the main semiconductor devices. The majority of switching energies are transferred to the output by auxiliary transformer. Thus, the current stress of auxiliary switch is significantly reduced. Besides, the proposed converter has simple structure and ease of control due to common ground. The theoretical analysis of the proposed converter is verified by a prototype with 100 ㎑ switching frequency and 500 W output power. Furthermore, the efficiency of the proposed converter is 98.9% at nominal output power.

An Overview on the Determinants of Classical Turkish Literature Aesthetics

Yakup Yeşilyaprak 고려대학교 응용문화연구소 2023 에피스테메 Vol.- No.29

The aesthetics of classical Turkish literature is influenced by a quite rich background. The period of classical Turkish literature covers a period of approximately six centuries in the history of Turkish literature. However, the factors shaping its aesthetics date back much further. The determinants of this aesthetics can be traced back to Sumerian, Babylonian and ancient Indian, Iranian, Greek and Arabic thought. It also bears significant traces of the Roman and Byzantine periods. These traces are generally mythological, theological, philosophical and mystical. In addition to these traces, it is possible to argue that various religions and beliefs, especially Islam, have influenced the aesthetics significantly. Moreover, some ontological, epistemological, psychological and moral theories are among the determinants. Phenomena such as music, plays, rituals, daily life practices and political developments are among the other factors that influence the aesthetics of classical Turkish literature. This study attempts to provide an overview of the determinants of the aesthetics of classical Turkish literature and how they have been transformed into aesthetic expression. By doing so, the study aims to provide a better understanding and recognition of the aesthetics of classical Turkish literature. The main question to be answered in the study is “What kind of perception of art and beauty do the texts of classical Turkish literature have and how is this perception shaped?”. This question will be answered through some examples from the texts of classical Turkish literature. The examples are selected from those that can be used to make general judgments about the aesthetics of classical Turkish literature.

Effect of preemptive intravenous ibuprofen on postoperative edema and trismus in third molar tooth extraction: A randomized controlled study

Gulnahar, Yakup,Kupeli, Ilke The Korean Dental Society of Anesthsiology 2018 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.18 No.3

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory efficacy of preemptive intravenous ibuprofen on inflammatory complications such as edema and trismus in patients undergoing impacted mandibular third molar surgery. Methods: Sixty patients were included and divided into three groups (800 mg IV ibuprofen + 50 mg dexketoprofen, 800 mg IV ibuprofen, and control). In all patients, preoperative hemodynamic values were recorded before the infusions. The operation was started at 15-min post-infusion. Evaluation of edema size on the face and mouth opening (trismus) was conducted in the preoperative period, and at postoperative 48 h and 1 week. Results: No difference was determined among the groups in trismus and edema size in postoperative measurements (P > 0.05). There was a difference between group 2 and group 3 only in measurement value of tragus-corner of the mouth on the postoperative day 2 (P < 0.05). A difference was found between the measurement values of trismus preoperatively and at preoperative day 2, and between postoperative day 2 and 1 week in group 3 based on time (P < 0.05). In group 3, edema on the face on postoperative day 2 increased significantly compared to that in the preoperative period (P < 0.001); in addition, edema increased significantly in groups 1 and 2 in the postoperative period but was less than that in group 3 (P < 0.001). Conclusions: In this study, intravenous ibuprofen was determined to be more effective alone or in combination in alleviating trismus and to better limit the postoperative edema.

      • Free vibration analysis of steel liquid storage tank with functionally graded column based on modified continuum mechanics

        Cavus, Yakup Harun,Kupeli, Togay,Yayli, Mustafa Ozgur Techno-Press 2022 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.11 No.4

It's important to note that the number of studies on the lateral vibration of steel liquid storage tanks has been quite modest in the past. The aim of this research has to look at the variables that affect vibration of storage tanks and to highlight the characteristics of a construction that hasn't received much attention in the literature. The storage tank has pre-sized in the study, and aluminum and steel have chosen as components. The specified material qualities and the factors utilized in the investigation has used to calculate vibration frequency values. The resulting calculations are backed up by tables and graphs, and it's an important to look into the parameters that affect the vibration frequencies that will occur on the designed storage tank vary. In the literature, water tanks are usually modelled as lumped masses. The horizontal stiffness of the column on which it is placed is assumed to be constant throughout. This is an approximation method of solving this problem. The column is handled in this study with a more realistic approach that fits the continuum mechanics in the analysis. The reservoir part is incorporated directly into the problem as the boundary condition.

Temperament and Character in Euthymic Major Depressive Disorder Patients: The Effect of Previous Suicide Attempts and Psychotic Mood Episodes

        Okan Ekinci,Yakup Albayrak,Aslı Erkan Ekinci 대한신경정신의학회 2012 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.9 No.2

Objective The purpose of this study was to examine personality traits of patients with major depressive disorder and explore the possible connections between personality and clinical and sociodemographic variables. Methods The sociodemographic and clinical properties of 80 patients with major depression, who were euthymic according to Hamilton Depression Scale scores, were recorded. Their personality was evaluated by using Temperament and Character Inventory and results were compared with 80 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. We used general linear model analysis to evaluate the manner in which the variables contributed to TCI scores. ResultsaaRemitted depressive patients scored significantly lower on on self-directedness and higher on harm avoidance than HC. Previous suicide attempts had a main effect only on harm avoidance while previous psychotic mood episodes were significantly associated with novelty seeking, self-directedness and cooperativeness. With respect to numeric clinical variables, only duration of illness was significantly and negatively correlated with NS and RD scores. ConclusionaaPatients with euthymic major depressive disorder may have significantly different personality traits than the normal population, and patients with different clinical and sociodemographic characteristics may show different personality patterns. In addition, assessment of major depressed patients by means of the Temperament and Character Inventory may be helpful to get a deeper insight into those personality traits underlying suicidality and the emergence of psychotic mood episode.
