( Yahya ),( Rohaida Nordin ),( Siti Noranizahhafizah Boyman ),( Marshelayanti Mohamad Razali ),( Nafisah Ilham Hussin ),( Mohd Syafiq Zainal ) 한국정책학회 2016 한국정책학회 추계학술발표논문집 Vol.2016 No.-

Ploitical participation plays vital roles in translating the rights to self-determination of indigenous peoles into practice. Article 3 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) recognized the rights to self-determination of indigenous peoples including the right to freely determine their political status. Irrespective of the current recognition, the rights of indigenous peoples including Orang Asli (Aboriginal Peoples) in the Peninsular of Malaysia are still at stake. The main objective of this study is to critically valuate the compatibility of the rights to political participation of Orang Asli by looking at the international law standards. To achieve the said objective, the discussion will be divided into four parts and conducted using the qualitative approach. In the first part, the study provides information background of Orang Asli includig their brief history and demographic. In the second part, the current study analyses the concept of political participation as part of the rights to self-determination of indigenous peoples under the international law. As the study focuses on the experience of Orang Asli in Malaysia, it will evaluate the political pariticipation of Orang Asli in pursuance to Malaysian law as compared to the international law standards. Ultimately, suitable recommendations and sustainable solutions to improve the political participation of Orang Asli will be presented. This is vital to ensure that the protection of the rights of Orang Asli is compatible with the international law standards. The solutions would also assist the Malaysian State to meet its international law duties and obligations.

Generation of Business Process Reference Model Considering Multiple Objectives

Yahya, Bernardo Nugroho,Wu, Jei-Zheng,Bae, Hye-Rim Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2012 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.11 No.3

The implementation of business process management (BPM) systems in large number of business organizations transforms BPM system into such a level of maturity and tends to collect large repositories of business process (BP) models. This issue encourages BP flexibility that leads to a large number of process variants derived from the same model, but differing in structure, to be stored in the large repositories of BP models. Therefore, the repositories may include thousands of activities and related business objects with variation of requirements and quality of service. It is a common practice to customize processes from reference processes or templates in order to reduce the time and effort required to design and deploy processes on all levels. In order to address redundancy and underutilization problems, a generic process model, called as reference BP, is absolutely necessary to cover the best of process variants. This study aims to develop multiple-objective business process genetic algorithm (MOBPGA) to find a set of non-dominated (Pareto) solutions of business reference model to enhance conventional approach which considered only a single objective on creating BP reference model by using proximity score measurement. A mixed-integer linear program is constructed to evaluate performance of the proposed MOBPGA on small-scale problems by using standard measures for multiple-objective techniques. The results will show the viability of applying MOBPGA in terms of simultaneously maximizing proximity score measurement, minimizing total duration, and total costs of the selected reference model.

General thermo-elastic solution of radially heterogeneous, spherically isotropic rotating sphere

Yahya Bayat,Hamid EkhteraeiToussi 대한기계학회 2015 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.29 No.6

A thick walled rotating spherical object made of transversely isotropic functionally graded materials (FGMs) with general types ofthermo-mechanical boundary conditions is studied. The thermo-mechanical governing equations consisting of decoupled thermal andmechanical equations are represented. The centrifugal body forces of the rotation are considered in the modeling phase. The unsymmetricalthermo-mechanical boundary conditions and rotational body forces are expressed in terms of the Legendre series. The series methodis also implemented in the solution of the resulting equations. The solutions are checked with the known literature and FEM based solutionsof ABAQUS software. The effects of anisotropy and heterogeneity are studied through the case studies and the results are representedin different figures. The newly developed series form solution is applicable to the rotating FGM spherical transversely isotropicvessels having nonsymmetrical thermo-mechanical boundary condition.

Emergent Esophagectomy in Patients with Esophageal Malignancy Is Associated with Higher Rates of Perioperative Complications but No Independent Impact on Short-Term Mortality

        Yahya Alwatari,Devon C. Freudenberger,Jad Khoraki,Lena Bless,Riley Payne,Walker A. Julliard,Rachit D. Shah,Carlos A. Puig 대한심장혈관흉부외과학회 2024 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.57 No.2

Background: Data on perioperative outcomes of emergent versus elective resection in esophageal cancer patients requiring esophagectomy are lacking. We investigated whether emergent resection was associated with increased risks of morbidity and mortality. Methods: Data on patients with esophageal malignancy who underwent esophagectomy from 2005 to 2020 were retrospectively analyzed from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. Thirty-day complication and mortality rates were compared between emergent esophagectomy (EE) and non-emergent esophagectomy. Logistic regression assessed factors associated with complications and mortality. Results: Of 10,067 patients with malignancy who underwent esophagectomy, 181 (1.8%) had EE, 64% had preoperative systemic inflammatory response syndrome, sepsis, or septic shock, and 44% had bleeding requiring transfusion. The EE group had higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class and functional dependency. More transhiatal esophagectomies and diversions were performed in the EE group. After EE, the rates of 30-day mortality (6.1% vs. 2.8%), overall complications (65.2% vs. 44.2%), bleeding, pneumonia, prolonged intubation, and positive margin (17.7% vs. 7.4%) were higher, while that of anastomotic leak was similar. On adjusted logistic regression, older age, lower albumin, higher ASA class, and fragility were associated with increased complications and mortality. McKeown esophagectomy and esophageal diversion were associated with a higher risk of postoperative complications. EE was associated with 30-day postoperative complications (odds ratio, 2.39; 95% confidence interval, 1.66–3.43; p<0.0001). Conclusion: EE was associated with a more than 2-fold increase in complications compared to elective procedures, but no independent increase in short-term mortality. These findings may help guide data-driven critical decision-making for surgery in select cases of complicated esophageal malignancy.

Effects of Quercetin Supplementation on Hematological Parameters in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: a Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Pilot Study

( Yahya Pasdar ),( Farhad Oubari ),( Mahin Nikougoftar Zarif ),( Mehrnaz Abbasi ),( Azizollah Pourmahmoudi ),( Mahboobe Hosseinikia ) 한국임상영양학회 2020 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.9 No.1

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common liver disease which has become a public health concern. Since oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of NAFLD, subsequent hematological disorders are expected. Therefore, antioxidant compounds such as quercetin could ameliorate the related side-effect of oxidative stress. The aim of the current study was to assess the effect of quercetin on hematological parameters in NAFLD patients. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted as a pilot study. In this study 90 patients with NAFLD were supplemented with either a quercetin or a placebo capsule twice daily (500 mg) for 12 weeks. Blood sample was obtained for laboratory parameters at baseline and the end of week 12. End of trial values for red blood cell (RBC; p = 0.002), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (p = 0.029), and mean platelet volume (p = 0.017), significantly increased and the levels of mean corpuscular volume (MCV; p = 0.023), RBC distribution width-coefficient of variation (p = 0.005), platelet distribution width (p = 0.015), and ferritin (p = 0.002) significantly decreased compared to the baseline in group receiving quercetin. Between group analysis revealed that RBC significantly increased (p = 0.025) but, mean corpuscular volume (p = 0.004), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH; p = 0.002), and ferritin (p = 0.013) significantly decreased compared to placebo group. In this work quercetin showed significant effect on RBC, ferritin, MCV, and MCH in intervention group.

Intake of Animal Source Foods in Relation to Risk of Metabolic Syndrome

        Yahya Pasdar,Shima Moradi,Neda Hydarzadeh Esfahani,Mitra Darbandi,Parisa Niazi 한국식품영양과학회 2020 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.25 No.2

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a prevalent disorder associated with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Lifestyle and occupation can increase the risk of developing MetS. Since dietary pattern is a major component of lifestyle, this study aimed to determine the relationship between consumption of animal source foods (ASFs) and MetS among food suppliers. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 112 male food suppliers. We measured anthropometric indices, body composition, and blood pressure of the participants. Blood biochemistry was determined using 5 mL fasting blood samples. MetS was defined based on the guidelines described by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). ASF intake, including dairy products, eggs, red meat, poultry, and fish, was assessed using food frequency questionnaires. Overall, 46.4% of participants had MetS. Participants who consumed dairy 3∼5 times/d and more than 5 times/d had lower risk of MetS [odds ratios (OR): 0.18 (confidence interval (CI) 95%: 0.05∼0.62) and OR: 0.20 (CI 95%: 0.06∼0.67), respectively] compared with participants in the lowest tertile. The risk of hypertension was significantly decreased in participants who consumed dairy products >5 times/d [OR: 0.22 (CI 95%: 0.07∼0.67)]. Other ASFs were not associated against the risk of MetS in crude and adjusted models. Our findings indicated that adhering to dairy products can decrease the risk of MetS. Higher adherence to dairy products was also protective against hypertension in these participants.

Antioxidant Changes of Thomson Navel Orange (Citrus sinensis) on Three Rootstocks under Low Temperature Stress

Yahya Tajvar,Reza Fotouhi Ghazvini,Yousef Hamidoghli,Reza Hassan Sajedi 한국원예학회 2011 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.52 No.6

The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plants under low temperature stress causes damage to plants. In order to evaluate the antioxidant responses of Thomson navel young trees (two years old) on different rootstocks under low temperatures, an experiment was conducted in a factorial plan based on completely randomized design. Treatments of temperatures were at seven levels including 9, 6, 3, 0, -3, -6℃, and 25 ± 2℃ (as control) and rootstocks were Sour orange,Citrange and Trifoliate orange. Results of interactive effects of factors showed that electrolyte leakage (EL), antioxidant capacity, catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity were significant at P < 0.01. Maximum EL was observed in Thomson navel on Sour orange at -6℃, while the highest antioxidant capacity, CAT and APX activity respectively with mean 75.06%, 0.45 and 4.350 IU・g-1 FW were observed in Thomson navel on Trifoliate orange rootstock at 0, -3 and 0℃. Low temperatures increased EL, lipid peroxidation, antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase (SOD), APX, CAT and peroxidase enzyme activities (P < 0.01). Due to effects of rootstock, lipid peroxidation reduced to 52 % (P < 0.01). The biochemical and physiological study of this experiment indicated that Thomson navel on Trifoliate orange rootstock, had best tolerance to freezing stress.
