The purpose of this study is to review the developmental process of bilingualism in theory or viewpoint in general and examine the activity of the Korean Society of Bilingualism. In this paper bilingual education is suggested as a better educational support for the multicultural students in Korea. That is, bilingual education is very good educational model for them not only in terms of transitional bilingual education level, but also maintenance and additive or enrichment type of bilingual education. The third type of bilingual education, additive bilingual education is valid not only for the minority students, but also beneficial to the majority Korean students. At present the number of multicultural students are increasing up to 7.8% yearly, despite total number of students are decreasing in Korean schools. Various kinds of multicultural students are coming in Korean Society and Korean government has obligations to support and lead them to settle down smoothly and well going to higher level of schools and finally to achieve their dreams or goals. Since The Korean society of Bilingualism has established 40 years ago, Sep. 26, 1981, the Society has been developed tremendously not only in number of members but also in quality of research. The “Bilingual Research” has been published four times a year (No 86 at present) and has been nominated as a ‘Good journal’ by the Korean Academic Foundation and became one of the best academic journals in humanities. Yet a few points of revisions or improvements are discussed in this paper. (Korea University)
Terminology of Argentine Tango for Tango Therapy

Tango (Argentine tango) is applied clinically for therapeutic purposes. Not only does tango, as a kind of dance, involve complex whole body movements synchronized to music but tango movements seem to be complicated and have many unique postures. For the systemic application of tango therapy, the systemic analysis of tango movements and figures are absolutely necessary. For therapeutic purposes, tango therapy should be prescribed based on a common scientific description. To describe tango movements more scientifically and systemically, a uniform systematic standard terminology should be determined and defined. However, the determination and definition of the terminology for tango should be performed for the research of tango movements. In this article, the unique terminology of Argentine tango is listed and defined according to the original meaning in Spanish as the first step toward for the systemic standardization of tango

Argentine tango (tango) has been applied therapeutically in recent decades for neurologic diseases, including Parkinson’s disease. Recently, the basic terminology of tango was defined, and the most simple and basic tango elements were classified for therapeutic purposes. Subsequently, the tango stance and posture were analysed systemically according to their functional anatomical descriptions, and the characteristics of tango gait were thus ascertained. Analysis was performed in a well-equipped facility appropriate for tango lessons and with two qualified tango masters and two tango experts. The following aspects of the tango gait associated with the purpose of movement were characterized: the single-limb support and dual-limb support of body weight; the variability of direction of movement; the gait cycle in normal gait and the gait cycle unit in tango gait; the difference in the way of walking; the asymmetric shape of the Wt-gaining limb and Wt-losing limb; the vertical and side-to-side displacement of centre of mass (CoM); the step width; the active vs passive movements; the absence of hand swing and kick-off; the concurrence of the body axis, Wt axis and the vertical fixation of the body axis; the difference in the principle of step; the single-limb stance duration and dual-limb support duration; the variation in gait velocity; and the movement known as adorno. Tango therapy effects similar to the effects of running, squatting and climbing may be obtained, even at a safe, slow velocity. From a medical viewpoint, tango has therapeutic effects on the muscular strengthening of posture and gait. Consequently, the posture, gait, balancing, mobility, and the rigidity of the body are possibly improved. Tango therapy provides good modality in those patients whose mobility is not favourable, such as those with neurologic diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, and it can promote the health of older people. Additionally, tango possibly strengthens the core muscles and can be applied for urinary inconstancy. More investigation may be needed.
The Metonymy of Heartache and Its Use

Little attention has been paid to metonymy in cultural studies of emotion because it is generally conceived of as showing only limited aspects of emotion conceptualization and is not thought to show substantial cultural differences. The purpose of this research is to show metonymy can be a resource for studying universality and variation of emotion conceptualization, specifically by analyzing metonymy of heartache in English and Korean. By examining linguistic expressions of heartache and its conceptual extensions, it is revealed that the frame of HEARTACHE has several components. This frame reflects universal conceptualization of sadness in that the components of the frame correspond to the stages of the universal cognitive model of sadness. By analyzing the use of the metonymy of heartache based on corpora, it is found that Korean and English highlight the components of the frame to different degrees: Korean highlights the feeling component and the (inward) response component more than English does; English highlights the causing component and the (outward) response component more than Korean does; English shows a more balanced distribution of attention to the components. By exploiting the difference in cognitive style and emotion expression between East and West, an explanation to these differences was attempted.
