Hydrothermal Synthesis of CrO2 Nanoparticle Arrays on Ti nano-pit Array Templates

Chromium dioxide (CrO2) nanoparticle arrays were fabricated on Ti nano-pit array templates by hydrothermal synthesis using CrO3 aqueous solution as precursor. The Ti nano-pit array template was obtained by stripping TiO2 nanotube array formed on the Ti foil. CrO2 nanoparticles are arranged in honeycomb pattern in a large area and their surface density reaches 1.5 x 10 10 cm -2. The CrO2 nanoparticle arrays show typical magnetic behavior, and the easy axis is parallel to the plane of Ti nano-pit array template. The influence of the concentration of CrO3 aqueous solution on the CrO2 nanoparticle arrays is studied and the mechanism of the formation of the CrO2 nanoparticle arrays is briefly discussed.
Morphologies and phenotypes in Bacillus subtilis biofilms

In this study, we explored Bacillus subtilis biofilm growth under various conditions such as the use of substrates with different stiffnesses and nutrient levels using a well-developed optical imaging technique to spatially and temporally track biofilm growth. We also developed a quantitative method to characterize B. subtilis biofilm morphologies under various growth conditions. To determine biofilm rim irregularities, we used the dimensionless P2A ratio, defined as P2/4πA, where P is the perimeter and A is the area of the biofilm. To estimate biofilm thickness from transmission images, we developed a calibration procedure based on Beer- Lambert’s law and cross sectioning. Furthermore, to determine the distributions of different B. subtilis cell phenotypes during biofilm growth, we used a triple-fluorescence-labeled B. subtilis strain that expressed motility, matrix production, and sporulation. Based on this work, we are able to tune biofilm growth by changing its growing environment.

In order to evaluate the efficacy and side effects of the non-insulin antidiabetes medications as an adjunct treatment in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), we conducted systematic searches in MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for randomized controlled trials published between the date of inception and March 2020 to produce a systematic review and meta-analysis. Overall, 57 studies were included. Compared with placebo, antidiabetes agents in adjunct to insulin treatment resulted in significant reduction in glycosylated hemoglobin (weighted mean difference [WMD], –0.30%; 95% confidence interval [CI], –0.34 to –0.25%; P<0.01) and body weight (WMD, –2.15 kg; 95% CI, –2.77 to –1.53 kg; P<0.01), and required a significantly lower dosage of insulin (WMD, –5.17 unit/day; 95% CI, –6.77 to –3.57 unit/day; P<0.01). Compared with placebo, antidiabetes agents in adjunct to insulin treatment increased the risk of hypoglycemia (relative risk [RR], 1.04; 95% CI, 1.01 to 1.08; P=0.02) and gastrointestinal side effects (RR, 1.99; 95% CI, 1.61 to 2.46; P<0.01) in patients with T1DM. Compared with placebo, the use of non-insulin antidiabetes agents in addition to insulin could lead to glycemic improvement, weight control and lower insulin dosage, while they might be associated with increased risks of hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal side effects in patients with T1DM.

With the urbanization in recent years, the power line interference noise in electromagnetic signal is increasing day by day, and has gradually become an unavoidable component of noises in magnetotelluric signal detection. Therefore, a kind of power line interference noise elimination method based on independent component analysis in wavelet domain for magnetotelluric signal is put forward in this paper. The method first uses wavelet decomposition to change single-channel signal into multi-channel signal, and then takes advantage of blind source separation principle of independent component analysis to eliminate power line interference noise. There is no need to choose the layer number of wavelet decomposition and the wavelet base of wavelet decomposition according to the observed signal. On the treatment effect, it is better than the previous power line interference removal method based on independent component analysis. Through the de-noising processing to actual magnetotelluric measuring data, it is shown that this method makes both the apparent resistivity curve near 50 Hz and the phase curve near 50 Hz become smoother and steadier than before processing, i.e., it effectively eliminates the power line interference noise.
Negative electrode structure design in InSb focal plane array detector for deformation reduction

When an indium antimonide (InSb) infrared focal plane array (IRFPA) is subjected to a thermal shock test, most of the cracks originatefrom the region over the negative electrode, which restricts its final yield. In light of the proposed equivalent modeling, three negativeelectrode structures are assessed to eliminate the accumulated deformation around the negative electrode. Simulation results show thatwhen a thicker indium bump array is connected directly with negative InSb material, the accumulated thermal deformation is the minimum,the top surface of InSb chip is the smoothest, and the square checkerboard buckling pattern, present clearly in both gold bufferlayer and sparse thicker indium bump array structure, seems to be unclear. All these mean that a thicker indium bump array structure is agood choice, which will benefit to reduce fracture probability of InSb IRFPAs under thermal shock.

In pursuit of poly(ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate) PEF materials with high molecular weight,satisfactory appearance and faster crystallization rate, its preparation from dimethyl furan-2,5-dicarboxylate (DMFD) with ethylene glycol (EG) in the trace presence of metal zinc was performed viatransesterification method. Optimization of the main polymerization parameters enabled Zn-catalyzedPEF to gain high molecular weight (Mn, 5.40 104 g mol 1) and low content of diethylene glycolfurandicarboxylate unit (DEGF, 2.91%). On the basis of experimental phenomena and high performanceliquid chromatography (HPLC), the actual catalytic active species of metal zinc in the polymerization wasspeculated to be a salt of 2, 5-furandicarboxylate derivative (Zn(II)). The in-stiu catalyst can efficaciouslyinhibit the influence of by-product FDCA on the color of PEF, which displayed quite better appearance(close to white). Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) showed that the in-stiu catalytic system acted asnucleating agent (NA) and the crystallization half-time (t1/2) of PEFs-Zn was only 1/4 of that of PEF-tin. Additionally, series of high molecular weight furan-based polyesters from DMFD and diols with differentmethylene (3, 5, 6 and 8) were obtained by zinc powder as in-stiu catalyst, which further evidenced it tobe efficiency and universality.
Whole Exome Sequencing in the Accurate Diagnosis of Bilateral Breast Cancer: a Case Study

When faced with a case of bilateral breast cancer (BBC), understanding how to differentiate bilateral primary breast cancer from contralateral metastatic breast cancer is essential for treatment, but clear identification criteria have not been established to date. Diverse events play different roles in the therapy and prognosis of BBC; hence, it is of great significance to detect a more comprehensive and convincing technique to make an accurate differential diagnosis. We report a rare case of synchronous BBC in a 61-year-old Chinese woman. Based on her clinical and pathological features and the use of whole exome sequencing and cancer genome analysis, we concluded that the patient developed contralateral metastatic breast cancer which metastasized from left to right. Therefore, together with clinical, pathological and cancer genomics information, we could precisely define the origin and evolution of BBC.
