Study of the Effect of Opacity on the Solar Coronal X-ray Mg XII 0.842 nm Spectral Lines

Using the intensity ratio of the solar coronal X-ray Mg XII 0.842 nm doublet observed by usingthe SPIRIT instrumentation, we discuss the optical depth at the line center of the Mg XII emissionlines. The optical depth at the line center of the (1/2 − 3/2) component that we calculated is 0.245. Using the measured abundance of magnesium and the results of ionization balance, we calculatethe variation of electron density with the measured distance to the corona and estimate the averageelectron density to be ne = 6.657 × 108 cm−3. Also we discuss the variation of the optical depth atthe line center with the coronal temperature. This study will be significant to solar coronal plasmadiagnostics.
Electronic, Elastic Properties and Hardness of the Novel Tetragonal Silicon

Silicon is an important material for technical applications. Recently, a long-puzzling metastablephase of silicon (T12-Si) has been theoretically identified. In this work, we used first-principlescalculations to study the electronic and elastic properties and the hardness of this new siliconallotrope to enrich the relevant information. These properties of cubic Si (c-Si) were also calculatedfor comparison. The results show that the T12-Si is mechanically anisotropic and has a lower bulkmodulus and shear modulus than c-Si. Its theoretical hardness is 10.3 GPa, smaller than the valueof 13.5 GPa for c-Si. Analyses of the electronic properties reveal that T12-Si is an indirect bandgap crystal with a gap value of 0.69 eV, making it a promising semiconductor for future technicalapplications and that covalent sp3-hybridization is the main interaction in this crystal. The reasonthe calculated hardnesses of c-Si and T12-Si are rather small compared to that of diamond is alsodiscussed.

조산본적(曹山本寂)은 조동종(曹洞宗) 선학사상을 집대성한 사람이며, 그의 선학사상은 완전하면서도 심오하다. 중국불학계에서 본적의 선학사상에 대하여 전반적으로 체계적인 연구성과는 많지 않으며, 또한 그 연구성과 간의 차이점이 적지 않다. 본고에서는 본적의 선학사상에 대하여 주로 "응물현형(應物顯形)"과 "현본원진(幻本元眞)"의 불성론, "편정회호(偏正回互)"를 핵심으로 하는 군신오위설(君臣五位說), "삼종타(三種墮)"와 "사이류(四異類)"로 하는 선수론(禪修論)을 포함하여 전체적으로 살펴서 정리해보기로 하였다. 그리고 본 논문에서 본적의 선학사상은 고도로 이론적이며 사변적이고, 선학을 철학적으로 이론화하는 경향을 구현해냈으며, 또 유가(儒家)를 융합하는 종교의 정치윤리적 색채를 드러냈음을 밝혔다. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of tectorigenin on chemically induced liver fibrosis in rats. Liver fibrosis was induced in rats with carbon tetrachloride, a diet high in fat, cholesterol and alcohol in the drinking water. Our results indicate that tectorigenin treatment significantly inhibited the increases in the activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALT),aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and the increases in the serum levels of hyaluronate (HA), laminin (LN) and procollagen III N-terminal peptide (PIIIP); tectorigenin treatment also significantly inhibited the increases in the amount of collagen in the livers of the fibrogenic rats. Chemically induced liver fibrosis caused a drop in the serum albumin concentration and a decrease in the ratio of albumin to globulin (A/G). Tectorigenin caused a remarkable increase at a dose of 30 mg/kg, but only a slight increase at the lower doses. Tectorigenin was also able to inhibit the increase in the liver lipid peroxidation (LPO), as well as the decrease in the activities of liver superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), caused by liver fibrosis. In addition, we present a related metabolic profile determined, using a 1H NMR spectroscopy and multivariate pattern recognition techniques. The results were consistent with the pathological examination, liver function analysis and liver fibrosis marker analysis. Furthermore, tectorigenin does not cause acute toxicity.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion for Cancer-related Fatigue: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Background: Faced with highly prevalent and recalcitrant cancer-related fatigue (CRF), together with the absence of any official guidelines on management, numerous groups have been striving to seek and test alternative therapies including acupuncture and moxibustion. However, different patients have various feedbacks, and the many clinical trials have given rise to varied conclusions. In terms of the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion, there exist vast inconsistencies. Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the auxiliary effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of CRF, and to provide more reliable evidence to guide clinical practice. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published before December 2012 were all aggregated, focusing on evaluation of acupuncture or moxibustion for CRF. The quality of the included studies was assessed basing on Cochrane handbook 5.1.0, and the available data were analyzed with RevMan software (version 5.2.0). Descriptive techniques were performed when no available data could be used. Results: A total of 7 studies involving 804 participants were eligible. With real acupuncture versus sham acupuncture, subjects receiving true acupuncture benefited more in the reduction of fatigue. With real acupuncture versus acupressure or sham acupressure, fatigue level appeared 36% improved in the acupuncture group, but 19% in the acupressure group and only 0.6% with sham acupressure. When real acupuncture plus enhanced routine care was compared with enhanced routine care, the combination group improved mean scores for general fatigue, together with physical and mental fatigue. With real acupuncture versus sham acupuncture or wait list controls, the real acupuncture group displayed significant advantages over the wait list controls at 2 weeks for fatigue improvement and better well-being effects at 6 weeks. When moxibustion plus routine care was compared with routine care alone, the meta-analyses demonstrated the combination had a relatively significant benefit in improving severe fatigue and QLQ-C30. Conclusion: Up to the search date, there exist few high quality RCTs to evaluate the effect of acupuncture and moxibustion, especially moxibustion in English. Yet acupuncture and moxibustion still appeared to be efficacious auxiliary therapeutic methods for CRF, in spite of several inherent defects of the included studies. Much more high-quality studies are urgently needed.
Deterministic Secure Quantum Communication Without Maximally Entangled States

Two deterministic secure quantum communication schemes are proposed, one based on pure entangled states and the other on d-dimensional single-photon states. In these two schemes, only single-photon measurements are required for the two authorized users, which makes the schemes more convenient than others in practical applications. Although each qubit can be read out after a transmission of additional classical bit, it is unnecessary for the users to transmit qubits double the distance between the sender and the receiver, which will increase their bit rate and their security. The parties use decoy photons to check eavesdropping efficiently. The obvious advantage in the first scheme is that the pure entangled source is feasible with present techniques.
