        The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidative effects of Rhodiola sachalinensis Rhodiola methanol extract was fractionated sequentially with dichloromethane and butanol. Each Rhodiola fraction (water, MeOH, BuOH and CH_2Cl_2 fractions) showed the potent superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and had inhibitory effets on peroxide value of linoleic acid (40~57%) and lipid peroxidation (47~70%) in FE^2+/ascorbate system-induced rat liver microsome. Rhodiola methanol extract also recovered carbon tetrachloride-induced decrease in SOD by 42% and catalase activities by 50%, and had inhibitory effects (54%) on carbon tetrachloride-induced lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsome. These results suggest that Rhodiola sachalinensis has the antioxidative effects.

        For the effective treatment of dyeing-complex wastewater, the most effective chemical coagulation were studied. For the chemical coagulation of dyeing-complex wastewater, polysulferiron(Ⅱ), Al_(2)(SO_(4))_3, PAC, ferrus sulfate, ferric sulfate, FeCl_(2) and lime were used. The ferric sulfate is the most efficient coagulant. The optimal conditions and results for ferric sulfate include the followings. When initial COD_(Mn) concentration was 600mg/L, the optimal initial pH, dosage, dosage of lime and PAA for COD_(Mn) removal efficiency were 4, 1,2000mg/L, 500mg/L and 1mg/L, respectively. The more influent COD_(Mn) concentration was increased, the more dosage of ferric sulfate was increased.

        하악골 결손부의 골형성에 미치는 Bioplant HTRⓡ의 영향

        The present study was performed to investigate the effect of HTR□ (Hard Tissue Replacement) on osteogenesis in the mandibular bone defects. Eight adult male white rabbits weighing 2.5 to 3.0kg were used. Four bone defects (8mm in diameter and 4mm in depth) were made at the both mandibular body. In the control group, the right mesial bone defect was filled with blood clot and spontaneously healed, In the DFDB group, the right distal bone defect was filled with xenogenic demineralized freeze-dried bone. In the HTR□ group, the left mesial bone defect was filled with HTR□. In the HTR□-membrane group, the left dis- tal bone defect was filled with HTR□ and covered with BioMesh membrane. The rabbits were sacrified at 2,4,6 and 9 weeks after the operation and microscopic examination was performed. Results obtained were as follows: In the control and DFDB groups, inflammatory cells and the fibrous connective tissue existed and the bone growth was slower than HTR□ group by 6 week, and there was intervention of the soft tissue at 9 week. In the HTR□ group, bone trabeculi extended between the HTR□ particles without intervention of inflammatory cells and the connective tissue at 4 and 6 weeks. In addition, extensive osseous ingrowth into the HTR□ particles was observed at 9 week. Bone formation was more active in the HTR□ group than the control and DFDB groups. There was not obvious difference in the bone healing rate between the HTR□ and the HTR□-membrane group. These results suggest that the HTR□ promotes osteogenesis in the bone defects and the HTR□ group has no difference in comparison with the HTR□-BioMesh□ membrane group in bone healing.

        이하선 종양에 관한 임상적 연구

        This is clinical study on 113 patients who were treated for parotid tumors at Chonnam National University Hospital over a period of 5 years from January 1996 to December 2000. The results were as follows ; The mean ages were 42.6 years old (12∼73 years) for benign parotid tumor patients and 43.9 years old (2∼74 years) for malignant patients. The ratio of male to female was 1:2 in malignant parotid tumors, but there was no difference in benign tumors. There was no difference in mean mass size and duration of illness between benign and malignant tumor patients. The combined usage of fine needle aspiration biopsy and computed tomogram was common as the diagnostic methods of parotid tumor. The parotid tumors were commonly located in the superficial lobe (69%). The ratio of benign and malignant tumors was 4:1. The most common benign tumor was pleomorphic adenoma (72% of benign tumor), followed by Warthin's tumor and monomorphic adenoma. The most common malignant tumor was mucoepidermoid carcinoma (45% of malignant tumor), followed by adenoid cystic carnoma, carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma, and adenocarcinoma. The most common operations were superficial parotidectomy (72%) for benign parotid tumor and total parotidectomy (45%) for malignant tumor. The most common postoperative complication was temporary facial nerve weakness (82%), followed by Frey's syndrome (14%) and permanent facial palsy (4%). Postoperative radiation therapy was done in 12 patients (60%) and the mean radiation dose was 5550±620 cGy. Of 113 cases, tumor recurrence developed in 12 cases (10%). These results suggest that the successful management of parotid gland tumors needs adequate surgical treatment on the basis of knowledge of parotid gland anatomy and preoperative diagnosis.

      • 광중합 복합레진의 색안정성 및 투명도변화에 관한 가속시험

        Color stability of tooth colored restorative resins is an important factor, particularly in anterior teeth restoration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability and opacity change of several light curing composite resins. Specimens of eight composite resins(Prisma AP.H, Brilliant Enamel, Charisma, Durafil, Helio Progress, Herculite XR, P-50 and Silux Plus) were divided into two groups : In Group 1, the specimens were polymerized by visible light curing unit for 60 seconds on both sides and in Group 2, the post-cured specimens were heat tempered by light/heat curing unit for 45 units(about 18 min.). All specimens were stored in distilled water at 60℃ for 30 days. The color characteristics(L^*, a^*, b^*) and opacity of the specimens before and after immersion were measured by spectrocolorimetry and the total color difference(ΔE^*) and opacity change(ΔY%) were computed. The results obtained were as follows: 1. SP and APH in both groups, DF, HP and HXR in Group Ⅰ showed ΔE^*-value above 2.0. 2. DF, HP, SP and HXR in Group Ⅰ showed higher ΔE^*-value than in Group 2, but the others had no significant difference. 3. The opacity of CH and HXR in Group Ⅰ, and of CH and BE in Group 2 decreased after immersion, while that of the others increased. 4. Opacity change of BE, P50 and HXR was significantly different between Group Ⅰ and 2. These results suggest that color change in the post-cure heat tempered specimens by light/heat curing unit was smaller than that of the specimens polymerized by visible light curing unit. No clinically detectable opacity changes were noted for any materials in either group.

        The Selective Visualization of Lignin Peroxidase, Manganese Peroxidase and Laccase, Produced by White Rot Fungi on Solid Media

        A visual method for the selective screen Eng of lignin degrading enzymes, produced by white rot fungi (WRF), was investigated by the addition of coloring additives to solid media. Of the additives used in the enzyme production media, guaiacol and RBBR could be used for the detection of lignin peroxidase (LiP), manganese peroxidase (MnP) and lactase. Syringaldazine and Acid Red 264 were able for the detection of both the MnP and lactase, and the LiP and laccase, respectively, and a combination of these two additives was able to detect each of the ligninases produced by the WRF on solid media.
