        Comparison of stomach microRNA transcriptomes of Tibetan and Yorkshire pigs by deep sequencing

        MiRNAs regulate the expression of target genes in diverse cellular processes and hence play important roles in different physiological processes, yet little is known about the stomach microRNAome (miRNAome) of the Tibetan pig. The objective of this experiment was to investigate differentially expressed stomach miRNAs participating in digestion. Firstly, we isolated total RNA by Trizol reagent from three Tibetan and three Yorkshire purebred pigs stomach samples at 90-day-old. Secondly, a comprehensive analysis of Tibetan and Yorkshire pig stomach miRNAomes was performed by small RNA sequencing in the Illumina HiSeq 2000 system. Finally, SYBR Green Real-time RT-PCR was performed to validate the differentially expressed miRNAs. We identified 318 unique miRNAs, 260 were co-expressed in both libraries, 17 and 31 miRNAs were specifically expressed in Tibetan and Yorkshire pigs respectively. Fifty six differentially expressed miRNAs were identified by the identifying differentially expressed genes 6 (IDEG6). Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes analysis revealed that some of the differentially expressed miRNAs were associated with protein and fat digestion. Two differentially expressed miRNAs (miR-214-3p and ssc-un39) participating in the digestion of lipid were identified. Additionally, qRT-PCR results suggested that a higher expression of miR-214-3p in the Tibetan pig stomach could lead to relatively lower expression of calcium-dependent phospholipase A2, which is an enzyme important for the digestion of glycerol phospholipid. This study has delineated the different stomach miRNAs expression patterns of Tibetan and Yorkshire pigs, which would help explain the regulatory mechanisms of miRNAs in digestion of Tibetan pigs, and contribute to utilize a the unique digestion merits of Tibetan pig in future porcine hybridization breeding.

        Steel Bridge Construction of Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge

        The 55-km-long Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB) is the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge, connecting Hong Kong with Zhuhai and Macao at the mouth of the Pearl River Estuary in China, comprising 22.9-km-long steel bridges. HZMB is the leading steel bridge in China, with top-level manufacturing and installation technology. This paper outlines the steel bridge construction experiences of HZMB to provide comparisons for the construction of other long sea-crossing steel bridges at home or abroad. The main considerations of construction constraints, scheme selection, structural and aesthetic design of HZMB are presented, and the following points related to new strategies in the steel bridge construction of HZMB are elaborated: (1) construction quality assurance, (2) automatic manufacturing technology, (3) large segment off shore installation, (4) eco-friendly paint (content limitation of volatile organic compounds) and new multifunctional inspection gantry, and (5) Guss Mastic Asphalt steel deck pavement system. The successful implementation of those strategies shows that the steel bridge construction of HZMB promotes improvement in the overall construction and management level of the Chinese bridge industry. The advanced experience of HZMB has opened up broad prospects for the design and construction of off shore bridge engineering in China.

        Insufficient radiofrequency ablation-induced autophagy contributes to the rapid progression of residual hepatocellular carcinoma through the HIF-1α/BNIP3 signaling pathway

        Currently speaking, it is noted that radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has been the most widely used treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) occurring in patients. However, accumulating evidence has demonstrated that the incidence of insufficient RFA (IRFA) may result in the identified rapid progression of residual HCC in the patient, which can greatly hinder the effectiveness and patient reported benefits of utilizing this technique. Although many efforts have been proposed, the underlying mechanisms triggering the rapid progression of residual HCC after IRFA have not yet been fully clarified through current research literature reviews. It was shown in this study that cell proliferation, migration and invasion of residual HepG2 and SMMC7721 cells were significantly increased after the IRFA was simulated in vitro. In other words, it is noted that IRFA could do this by enhancing the image of autophagy of the residual HCC cell via the HIF-1 α/BNIP3 pathway. Consequently, the down-regulation of BNIP3 may result in the inhibition of the residual HCC cell progression and autophagy after IRFA. Our present study results suggest that IRFA could promote residual HCC cell progression in vitro by enhancing autophagy via the HIF-1 α/BNIP3 pathway. For this reason, it is noted that the targeting of the BNIP3 may be useful in preventing the rapid growth and metastasis of residual HCC after IRFA. [BMB Reports 2019; 52(4): 277-282]

        Langmuir Aggregation of Fluorescein Isothiocyanate (FITC) on Cetyl Trimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB) and Application to Determination of Anionic Detergent in Sewage

        The microphase adsorption - spectral correction (MPASC) technique was described and applied to study the interaction of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) with cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The synergism mechanism of micelle was analyzed and discussed. The aggregation of FITC on CTAB obeys the Langmuir monolayer adsorption. Results showed that the monomer and micellar aggregate is $FITC-CTAB_3$ and $(FITC-CTAB_3)_{29}$, respectively at pH 9.62. The adsorption constant of the CTAB-FITC aggregate was determined to be $2.10{\times}10^5$. Interestingly, it was observed for the addition of an anionic surfactant to desorb FITC from its CTAB aggregate and this has been applied to the quantitative determination of trace amounts of anionic detergent (AD) in sewage.

      • Robust FeCo nanoparticles embedded in a N-doped porous carbon framework for high oxygen conversion catalytic activity in alkaline and acidic media

        <P>FeCo alloy nanoparticles were nucleated onto graphitic carbon layers through the pyrolysis of polydopamine (PDA) sub-micrometer spheres to form a highly active electrocatalytic system that exhibits excellent oxygen conversion catalytic activity in both alkaline and acidic media. Owing to the strong metal chelation capability during the chemical modification and high sp<SUP>2</SUP>-dominant carbon yield of PDA, an abundance of non-precious-metal ions were easily trapped and absorbed into the PDA segments at room temperature by catechol and amine functional groups, followed by the <I>in situ</I> nucleation of FeCo alloy nanoparticles on graphitic carbon layers during the pyrolysis. The contents of graphitic nitrogen and pyridinic nitrogen were significantly increased by the presence of the non-precious-metal ions during carbonization as well, which is a result of the chelation effect of non-precious-metal atoms. Meanwhile, the FeCo nanoparticles (diameter < 5 nm) were protected by the multi-layer-graphene-like carbon layer from the harsh acid and uniformly anchored on graphitic carbon sub-microspheres, which can greatly improve the catalytic durability, particularly in acidic media. From the perspective of the whole catalytic system being used as an air electrode in rechargeable Zn-air batteries, the porous nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon framework was functionalised as a continuous conductive framework due to its catalytic activity towards high oxygen conversion and good electrical conductivity.</P>

      • A Group Data Structure for Very Large Multimedia Database

        A data structure extended on B-tree is presented for satisfying a growing application of manipulating concurrent group data in the very large multimedia database. Simulation shows that by the proposed structure and algorithm the operating overhead of reading and writing in the group manipulation is decreased and the efficiency of database storage utilization is increased greatly.

        Study on Contemporary Ceramics under the context of Globalization through Structuralism

        In the 21st century, globalization has already surged every corner of the world. As a result, the word "Contemporary Ceramics" has taken the position of "Ceramics" when describing clay objects. If Contemporary Ceramic can be categorized as one branch of Contemporary art, then it is extremely important to understand the essence of Contemporary Art. Contemporary art refers to works developed after 1960 that emphasize humanities and have a certain impact on society. This paper uses the Structuralism method approach to integrate the above-mentioned prerequisites and constructs four structures to make how globalization relates to Contemporary Ceramics, then applies those four structures to Contemporary Ceramic works which satisfied above prerequisites. Through further analysis, it is confirmed that structures as such are applicable to Contemporary Ceramics. And finally draws corresponding practical conclusions.

        Action at a Distance: Functional Drug Delivery Using Electromagnetic-Field-Responsive Polypyrrole Nanowires

        <P/><P>In this work, we introduce a free-standing, vertically aligned conductive polypyrrole (Ppy) architecture that can serve as a high-capacity drug reservoir. This novel geometric organization of Ppy provides a new platform for improving the drug-loading efficiency. Most importantly, we present the first formal evidence that an impregnated drug (dexamethasone, DEX) can be released on demand by a focal, pulsatile electromagnetic field (EMF). This remotely controlled, on–off switchable polymer system provides a framework for implantable constructs that can be placed in critical areas of the body without any physical contact (such as percutaneous electrodes) with the Ppy, contributing to a low “foreign body” footprint. We demonstrate this possibility by using a BV-2 microglia culture model in which reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression was attenuated in response to DEX released from EMF-stimulated Ppy.</P>

        In situ Synthesis of p–n LaFeO3/ZnIn2S4 Heterojunctions for Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity

        In this study, LaFeO3/ZnIn2S4 composites were synthesized via in situ synthesis. The composition, structure and optical absorption properties of LaFeO3/ZnIn2S4 were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy (PL), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The photocatalytic activity of the LaFeO3/ZnIn2S4 photocatalyst was determined based on the degradation of methyl orange (MO). LaFeO3/ZnIn2S4 composites showed much better photocatalytic performance compared with pure LaFeO3 and ZnIn2S4. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was attributed to intimately contacted interfaces and charge transfer channels which can effectively transfer and separate the photogenerated charge carriers.

        Spectrophotometric Investigation of Cu and Fe Complexes with o-Chlorophenylfluorone and Selective Competition Coordination Determination of Iron Traces

        The two reactions between iron ion (Fe3+ ) and o-chlorophenylfluorone (o-CPF) and copper ion (Cu2+ ) and o-CPF are sensitive at pH 6 in the presence of Triton X-100. We have determined the formation constants of the complexes by the spectral correction technique. Because of the poor selectivity of o-CPF to metals, the competition coordination of only the iron ion from the Cu-o-CPF complex was found and applied to the selective detection of iron traces by the Selective Competition Coordination Determination (SCCD) approach.The analysis of several samples shows that the relative standard deviations are less than 5.0% and the recovery of iron ions between 94.5% and 106%.
