      • Concurrent Weekly Docetaxel Chemotherapy in Combination with Radiotherapy for Stage III and IVA-B Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

        Background and Purpose: Cisplatin is the most common chemotherapeutic agent for loco-regionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); however, toxicity is a limiting factor for some patients. We retrospectively compared the efficacy and toxicity of weekly docetaxel-based and cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy in loco-regionally advanced NPC. Methods and Materials: Eighty-four patients with Stage III and IVA-B NPCs, treated between 2007 and 2008, were retrospectively analyzed. Thirty received weekly docetaxel-based concurrent chemotherapy, and 43 were given weekly cisplatin-based concurrent chemotherapy. Radiotherapy was administered using a conventional technique (seven weeks, 2.0 Gy per fraction, total dose 70-74 Gy) with 6-8 Gy boosts for some patients with locally advanced disease. Results: Median follow-up time was 42.3 months (range, 8.6-50.8 months). There were no significant differences in the 3-year loco-regional failure-free survival (85.6% vs. 92.3%; p=0.264), distant failure-free survival (87.0% vs. 92.5%; p=0.171), progression-free survival (85.7% vs. 88.4%; p=0.411) or overall survival (86.5% vs. 92.5%, p=0.298) of patients treated concurrently with docetaxel or cisplatin. Severe toxicity was not common in either group. Conclusions: Weekly docetaxel-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy is potentially effective and has a tolerable toxicity; however, further investigations are required to determine if docetaxel is superior to cisplatin for advanced stage NPC.

        Binomial Distribution Based Reputation for WSNs: A Comprehensive Survey

        Most secure solutions like cryptography are software based and they are designed to mainly deal with the outside attacks for traditional networks, but such soft security is hard to be implemented in wireless sensor networks to counter the inside attacks from internal malicious nodes. To address this issue, reputation has been introduced to tackle the inside malicious nodes. Reputation is essentially a stimulating mechanism for nodes’ cooperation and is employed to detect node misbehaviors and improve the trust-worthiness between individual nodes. Among the reputation models, binomial distribution based reputation has many advantages such as light weight and ease of implementation in resource-constraint sensor nodes, and accordingly researchers have proposed many insightful related methods. However, some of them either directly use the modelling results, apply the models through simple modifications, or only use the required components while ignoring the others as an integral part of the whole model, this topic still lacks a comprehensive and systematical review. Thus the motivation of this study is to provide a thorough survey concerning each detailed functional components of binomial distribution based reputation for wireless sensor networks. In addition, based on the survey results, we also argue some open research problems and suggest the directions that are worth future efforts. We believe that this study is helpful to better understanding the reputation modeling mechanism and its components for wireless sensor networks, and can further attract more related future studies.

        Influence of rub groove on rotordynamics associated with leakage air flow through a labyrinth seal

        An extensive investigation of influence of rub grooves on dynamics and stability of the rotor, which is subjected to aerodynamic forcing associated with the leakage flow through 44 straight-through seals, was performed by using numerical calculations based on the single control-volume method and the perturbation analysis. Three cases of different groove configurations were chosen for the comparative study, e.g., the seal without rub groove (case1), the seal with upstream shifting of the seal tooth in respect to the rub groove (case2) and the seal with location of the seal tooth in the middle station of the rub groove (case3). The orifice contract coefficient adopted in reduction of rotordynamic coefficients was provided by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Influence of rub grooves on the leakage flow was obtained in terms of the close-up view of the flow pattern near the seal tooth, leakage flow rate, distributions of the mean pressure and circumferential velocity in cavities. In comparison to case 1, the leakage flow in case 3 is considerably intensified, while which in case 2 is slightly increased. Dynamics and instability of the rotor in all cases was discussed in terms of the rotordynamic coefficients and the logarithmic decrement, respectively. The results disclosed that the aerodynamic forcing in case 2 intensified the destabilization of the rotor system.

        First-order approximate rigid-flexible coupled dynamics analysis of a simple aero-engine blade model with dynamic stiffening effect

        Aero-engine blades often fracture failed due to resonance. In order to analyze the vibration characteristics of high-speed rotating blades of aero-engine more accurately, not only the out-of-plane deformation and in-plane deformation, but also the in-plane deformation caused by out-of-plane deformation are taken into account in the process of research on the rigid-flexible coupling dynamics of blade. The study using the hypothetical modal method to describe the deformation of the blade and using the Lagrangian dynamics equation to establish the first-order approximation coupled dynamics equation of the flexible blade with threedimensional large displacement motion. The simulation results show that the theoretical results of the first approximation coupling model are consistent with the actual results, but the zeroorder approximation coupling model is flawed when the blade speed is high. Based on the firstorder approximation coupling model, the vibration frequency, frequency-steering and modeswitching problems of the blade are analyzed, and the feasibility of the proposed method is verified.

        A TEL decision method of process parameters for smart energy efficient manufacturing

        By constructing a Smart energy efficient manufacturing (SEEM) process grey model, craft parameter optimization is transformed into the process of multi-attribute decision making. Using fuzzy set theory to deal with uncertainty and inaccuracy fuzzy knowledge of SEEM assessment experts, a directly effect incidence matrix and a comprehensive effect matrix of SEEM process are put forward to be indexed by Trial and evaluation laboratory (TEL). The central degree and causal degree of each evaluation index are obtained, and then the relevance is analyzed between SEEM process evaluation indicators and weighted according to impact degrees. At the premise of maximizing of population benefits and minimizing of individual regret, the SEEM process parameters are determined by TEL-VIKOR theory. To obtain SEEM process parameters or compromise process parameters, a decision maker's subjective preference, and establishing control priorities of best SEEM process parameters are set. Finally, SEEM process parameters making decision example from discharge manufacturing process are applied to verify the proposed method.

      • Dibenzoheptazethrene Isomers with Different Biradical Characters: An Exercise of Clar’s Aromatic Sextet Rule in Singlet Biradicaloids

        <P><I>Clar’s aromatic sextet rule</I> has been widely used for the prediction of the reactivity and stability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with a <I>closed-shell</I> electronic configuration. Recent advances in <I>open-shell</I> biradicaloids have shown that the number of aromatic sextet rings plays an important role in determination of their ground states. In order to test the validity of this rule in singlet biradicaloids, the two soluble and stable dibenzoheptazethrene isomers <B>DBHZ1</B> and <B>DBHZ2</B> were prepared by different synthetic approaches and isolated in crystalline form. These two molecules have different numbers of aromatic sextet rings in their respective biradical resonance forms and thus are expected to exhibit varied singlet biradical character. This assumption was verified by different experimental methods, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), electron spin resonance (ESR), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), steady-state and transient absorption spectroscopy (TA), and X-ray crystallographic analysis, assisted by unrestricted symmetry-broken density functional theory (DFT) calculations. <B>DBHZ2</B>, with more aromatic sextet rings in the biradical form, was demonstrated to possess greater biradical character than <B>DBHZ1</B>; as a result, <B>DBHZ2</B> exhibited an intense one-photon absorption (OPA) in the near-infrared region (λ<SUB>abs</SUB><SUP>max</SUP> <I>=</I> 804 nm) and a large two-photon absorption (TPA) cross-section (σ<SUP>(2)</SUP><SUB>max</SUB> = 2800 GM at 1600 nm).         조선시대 한·중 복식문양에 대한 조형적 연구 -길상 문자 문양을 중심으로-

        전통 문양은 한국과 중국의 중요한 문화 자원 중 하나로 양국의 문화 전승과 각자 민족 정체성을 구축하는 과정에서 핵심적인 역할을 해왔다. 즉 기능적, 상징적 및 미적인 측면에서 문양은 한·중의 전통 문화에 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 이러한 전통 문양 중에서도 글자와 디자인이 결합된 '길상 문자 문양'은 한자 문화권인 한국과 중국에서 특별한 의미를 지닌다. 그러나 전통 문양의 조형 등에 대한 이해의 부족으로 인해 대중들은 자국의 전통 문양을 구별하지 못하거나 전통 문양을 문화 상품을 개발하는데 효과적으로 활용하지 못하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 한·중 두 나라의 길상 문자 문양의 조형적 특성을 분석하고 연구하여 양국의 길상 문자 문양의 조형적 차이를 도출하고 양국의 전통 문화에 대한 인식을 높이고자 한다. 이를 위해 가장 먼저 문헌 연구를 활용하여 복식 속 길상 문자 문양에 대한 이론적인 고찰을 진행한다. 이후 한국과 중국의 길상 문자 문양에 대해 조사하여 길상 문자 문양자체, 길상 문자 문양 와 조합문양의 관계, 길상 문자 문양 와 전체 복식의 관계 등의 세 가지 차원에서 어떤 특성이 있으며 각 나라의 문화에서 어떤 미적 취향이 반영되었는지를 연구한다. 마지막으로, 조선 시대 한국과 중국에서 가장 대표적인 사례를 선정하여 종합적으로 비교 분석하였으며 이를 통해 두 나라의 대표적인 길상 문자 문양의 공통점 및 차이점을 도출한다. 연구결과에서는 조선 시대 한국과 중국의 길상 문자 문양의 방향성, 조합 문양관계, 배색 등의 측면에서의 차이와 특성이 있다는 결론을 내린다. 이는 한·중 두 나라의 전통 문화 이해와 개발을 이끌고 두 나라의 전통 문화 교류를 촉진하는 데 긍정적인 의미가 있을 뿐만 아니라 두 나라의 관련 문화 상품 개발에도 참고할 가치가 있다. Traditional patterns are one of the important cultural resources of both Korea and China, and have played a key role in the cultural transmission of both countries and in the construction of their respective national identities. From a functional, symbolic, and aesthetic point of view, patterns have a great influence on the traditional culture of Han Chinese. Among these traditional patterns, auspicious character patterns, which combine letters and designs, have special significance in the Chinese character cultures of Korea and China. However, due to the lack of understanding of the formulation of traditional patterns, the public is unable to distinguish between their own traditional patterns or effectively utilize them to develop cultural products. The purpose of this study is to analyze and study the formative characteristics of the auspicious glyphs of the two countries, in order to draw out the formative differences between the auspicious glyphs of the two countries and to raise awareness of the traditional culture of the two countries. To this end, a theoretical review of auspicious character patterns in doubles is first conducted by utilizing the literature review. Then, we investigate the auspicious character patterns in Korea and China to study their characteristics and aesthetic preferences in each country's culture from three dimensions: the auspicious character pattern itself, the relationship between the auspicious character pattern and the combination pattern, and the relationship between the auspicious character pattern and the overall dress. Finally, the most representative examples from Korea and China during the Joseon Dynasty are selected and comprehensively compared and analyzed, and the similarities and differences between the two countries' representative auspicious symbols are drawn. The results of the study conclude that there are differences and characteristics in terms of the orientation of auspicious characters in Korean and Chinese auspicious characters during the Joseon Dynasty, the relationship of combination characters, and the color scheme. This has positive implications for guiding the understanding and development of traditional cultures of the two countries and promoting the exchange of traditional cultures between the two countries, as well as for the development of related cultural products of the two countries.

        Seroprevalence of Encephalitozoon cuniculi and Toxoplasma gondii in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in China

        The breeding of domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) for human consumption has a long tradition in China. Infections that can affect the production of meat or even be transmitted from animals to humans are important to monitor, especially for public health reasons as well as for their impact on animal health. Thus, a total of 1,132 domestic rabbit sera from 4 regions in China were collected for serological screening for Encephalitozoon cuniculi and for Toxoplasma gondii by ELISA and modified agglutination test (MAT), respectively. Antibodies to E. cuniculi were detected in 248/1,132 (21.9%) sera tested while antibodies against T. gondii revealed a seroprevalence of 51/1,132 (4.5%). We believe that the present results are of epidemiological implications and public health importance due to the acknowledged susceptibility of humans to E. cuniculi and T. gondii infections. Therefore, routine screening tests of domestic rabbits are proposed considering the zoonotic potential of these parasites.

        Effects of Exopolysaccharide Production on Liquid Vegetative Growth, Stress Survival, and Stationary Phase Recovery in Myxococcus xanthus

        Exopolysaccharide (EPS) of Myxococcus xanthus is a wellregulated cell surface component. In addition to its known functions for social motility and fruiting body formation on solid surfaces, EPS has also been proposed to play a role in multi-cellular clumping in liquid medium, though this phenomenon has not been well studied. In this report, we confirmed that M. xanthus clumps formed in liquid were correlated with EPS levels and demonstrated that the EPS encased cell clumps exhibited biofilm-like structures. The clumps protected the cells at physiologically relevant EPS concentrations, while cells lacking EPS exhibited significant reduction in long-term viability and resistance to stressful conditions. However, excess EPS production was counterproductive to vegetative growth and viable cell recovery declined in extended late stationary phase as cells became trapped in the matrix of clumps. Therefore, optimal EPS production by M. xanthus is important for normal physiological functions in liquid.

        A new integrative evaluation method for candidate reservoirs of hydrocarbon gas drive

        Before implementing hydrocarbon gas drive, an applicable evaluation of reservoirs for hydrocarbon gas drive can improve the success rate and economic benefit. On the basis of a large amount of literature research, 11 factors affecting the hydrocarbon gas injection development have been screened out. These 11 factors constitute the suitability evaluation indexes of candidate reservoirs for hydrocarbon gas drive. Meantime, the classification of 11 evaluation indexes has also been set up, and fuzzy statistical method, analytic hierarchy process, and expert assessment method have been adopted to obtain the weight value of each evaluation index. Three candidate reservoirs have been taken for example; using multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation to optimize the most suitable candidate reservoir, the potential size of three candidate reservoirs for hydrocarbon gas drive is provided. By comparing the evaluation results with the numerical reservoir simulation results, the evaluation method not only gives a correct evaluation for candidate reservoirs but also has a high practicability and reliability.
