The rare-earth chromates, RECrO3 and manganites REMnO3 (RE = Eu, Y, Dy, Ho, Gd) are considered potential room temperature multiferroics. However, artefacts and undesirable signals pose a severe challenge in confirming the ferroelectric (FE) phase, especially in pyroelectric current measurement technique. We propose a simple modified approach to the technique, named as 4-segment thermal cycling protocol. This protocol assists in isolating the irreversible thermally stimulated current from those associated with spontaneous and reversible nature of the electric polarization in FE phase. Here, we have compared simulated response of two hypothetical materials; an FE material and a paraelectric material. Further, we experimentally verify the protocol in a single crystal of prototype FE material, Glycine Phosphite. Using the proposed protocol, we investigated polycrystalline materials, HoCrO3 (reported multiferroic earlier) and DyFe0.5Mn0.5O3. Our results expound on the absence of reversible spontaneous electric polarization in temperature ranges tested.

The flowers of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis Linn. of Oleaceae widely used in Ayurvedic system of medicine for the treatment of diuresis, liver disorder, spleen enlargement sciatica, bitter, stomachic, carminative and tonic to hair. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the alcoholic and aqueous extracts of the flowers of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis for hepatoprotective effect against carbontetrachloride induced liver damage in rats. Administration of alcoholic and aqueous extracts of the leaves of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis protect the liver from toxic effects of carbontetrachloride by reducing the elevated levels of Serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase,Serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, Alkaline phosphatase and serum bilirubin. Results revealed that both the alcoholic and aqueous extracts showed significant hepatoprotective activity by reducing the elevated levels of biochemical parameters at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight. The results were supported by histopathological studies of liver samples which showed regeneration of hepatocytes by the extracts.
Axial and Radial Gas Holdup in Bubble Column Reactor
Wagh, Sameer M.,Ansari, Mohashin E. Alam,Kene, Pragati T. Korean Chemical Society 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.6
Bubble column reactors are considered the reactor of choice for numerous applications including oxidation, hydrogenation, waste water treatment, and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis. They are widely used in a variety of industrial applications for carrying out gas-liquid and gas-liquid-solid reactions. In this paper, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is used for predicting the gas holdup and its distribution along radial and axial direction are presented. Gas holdup increases linearly with increase in gas velocity. Gas bubbles tends to concentrate more towards the center of the column and follows a wavy path.

Lipid oxidation, colour stability and physico-chemical quality of pork frankfurters with the incorporation of 0.30% sea buckthorn (SBT), 0.10% grape seed (GSE), 0.03% green tea (GTE), 0.12% fenugreek seed (FSE) and 0.10% Acacia catechu (ACE) were studied during 20 days of refrigerated aerobic storage. The SBT and ACE were identified as being the most effective antioxidants to retard lipid oxidation with the potency decreasing in the following order: SBT>ACE>GSE>GTE>FSE based on thiobarbituric acid reacting substances, peroxide value and free fatty acids. In all samples pH and $a_w$ decreased during storage period. The $L^*$ value of treated as well as control samples decreased over time while SBT and ACE exhibited an increased redness producing higher $a^*$ values than other treatments. However, GTE was more effective in increasing $b^*$ values than other treatments at the end of storage. The results suggest that functional plant-derived extracts can be valuable to the modification of frankfurter formulations for improved oxidative stability as well as quality characteristics.
Flow Regimes in a Two Phase Reversed Flow Jet Loop Bioreactor
Sameer M. Wagh,Kishore V. Koranne,Raju B. Mankar,Ram L. Sonolikar 한국생물공학회 2010 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.15 No.3
Reversed flow jet loop bioreactors (RFJLB)have been used extensively for 2 or 3 phase biochemical reactions. From visual observations and gas holdup data, 3distinct flow regimes are identified in RFJLB, namely: (1)Bubble free regime (BFR), where bubbles are observed in the draft tube only; (2) Transition regime (TR), where bubbles are observed in both the draft tube and the annulus, but without circulation; and (3) Complete bubble circulation regime (CBCR), where bubbles circulate in both the draft tube and annulus. CBCR is the most desirable regime, since the reactor operation in this regime gives a higher gas holdup and mass transfer rate than in the other two regimes. In the present study, the hydrodynamic behavior of RFJLB was investigated under various operational and geometrical conditions, such as gas and liquid velocity and nozzle configuration. Factors affecting the critical liquid circulation velocity (CLCV) above which the CBCR is established were identified and evaluated quantitatively.

Testing of concrete panels subjected to pure in-plane shear loading is necessary to elucidate the shear behavior of concrete. However, available data for predicting the shear capacity and behavior of steel fiber-reinforced concrete are rather limited. This study aims to evaluate the shear capacity and behavior of fiber-reinforced concrete made of highly flowable strain hardening fiber-reinforced concrete (HF-SHFRC) experimentally and analytically, respectively, using a panel tester loaded under pure shear and modified compression field theory (MCFT). The test was conducted using a panel test machine at the University of Toronto. The test results of the HF-SHFRC demonstrated strain hardening behavior at tension after the first crack, as indicated by the increase in the shear stress after the first crack in the HF-SHFRC panel. An analysis procedure is proposed for predicting the shear strength of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) based on experimental data of the SFRC panels to obtain reliable results. A comparison of results obtained from the proposed analysis procedure and experiments show that it accurately predicted the response of the HF-SHFRC. The proposed MCFT-based analysis procedure can provide valuable insight for understanding the behavior of the SFRC panels under shear loading.

B. G. Wagh,D. M. Bhagat 한국물리학회 2004 Current Applied Physics Vol.4 No.2-4
Films of cadmium sulphide have been prepared using a simple technique of chemical bath deposition. These lms were depositedon glass substrates. Dierent parameters such as deposition temperature, deposition time were changed to get a good quality lm.Structural, optical and photo-conducting properties of CdS lms have been investigated using X-ray diraction, UV/VIS spec-troscopy andIV measurements.
