This paper explores the applicability of unmodified and chemically modified activated carbon cloths (ACCs) forthe removal of estrone, 17β-estradiol, and 17α-ethinylestradiol from water. In order to examine the influence of surfaceproperties on hormone adsorption, chemical modification of ACCs with HNO3, HCl, or KOH was employed. Appliedtreatments increased the specific surface area and changed the content of oxygen functional groups. Increased content ofacidic surface oxygen functionalities enhanced adsorption efficiency up to 30 % and had a more dominant influence onadsorption capacity than specific surface area. Adsorption of estrone, 17β-estradiol, and 17α-ethinylestradiol followedpseudo-second-order kinetic model, while the equilibrium adsorption data fitted well with the Freundlich isotherm model. Calculated mean sorption energy values of 1.4475, 1.3387, and 1.0541 kJ/mol, for E1, E2, and EE2 respectively, indicatedthat removal of selected hormones was dominated by physisorption mechanism. Obtained Langmuir adsorption capacities,12.34, 12.66, and 11.11 mg/g for estrone, 17β-estradiol, and 17α-ethinylestradiol, respectively, as well as convenience ofmanipulation, recommend activated carbon cloth modified with HNO3 as an efficient adsorbent for removing estrogenhormones from the water.

Ca-alginate particles (CA) and alginate-impregnated hemp fibers (AH) (both, as prepared, dried, and rehydrated)were used as adsorbents for removal of Ni (II) ions from water. Adsorption was examined in the batch system andexperimentally obtained data were analyzed by both linear and nonlinear curve fitting using pseudo-first and pseudo-secondorderrate, as well as Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips equations. The concentration of Ni (II) ions was measured by atomicabsorption spectrophotometry, while the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used for characterization of adsorbentsurface, before and after the adsorption. Although all tested samples showed similar adsorption capacities of 12 mg/g, it wasfound that rehydration improves adsorption characteristics of AH and increases the removal efficiency above 90 %. Adsorption of Ni (II) ions can be sufficiently described by both kinetic models and Sips isotherm equation, and this relativelyfast process presumably occurs through the mechanism of physisorption and ion-exchange. The obtained results proved thatCa-alginate particles and alginate-impregnated hemp fibers have good potential to reduce nickel concentrations in a costeffectiveand efficient manner.
Characterization of Some Potentially Probiotic Lactobacillus Strains of Human Origin

A novel preparation for human use was investigated for probiotic properties of new lactobacilli isolates from oral and fecal samples of children. Identified strains were Lactobacillus plantarum (Lac1, Lac2, Lac6, and Lac7), Lactobacillus casei (Lac3), and Lactobacillus paracasei (Lac4). Isolates were non-hemolytic, produced organic acids, were tolerant to wide ranges of temperature, NaCl, and pH, and were highly resistant to lysozyme, acidity, and bile salts. High survival rates in artificial gastric and intestinal fluids indicated abilities to survive passage through the gastrointestinal tract. Antimicrobial activities were restricted to bacteria, attributed to low pH values. Isolated strains possessed good aggregation abilities, high hydrophobicity values, and moderate abilities to adhere to HCT 116 cells. Substantial probiotic features were identified for all isolates. Lac2, Lac6, and Lac7 were identified as the most advantageous candidates for further study of other probiotic and technological properties.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>An extensive verification and validation for green sea load simulations is presented. The calculations are performed using the Naval Hydro pack, a library based on foam–extend, which is an open source Computational Fluid Dynamics software. The geometric Volume of Fluid method is used for interface advection, while the Ghost Fluid Method is employed to discretise the free surface boundary conditions at the interface. Pressure measured at the deck of a fixed structure is compared to experimental data for nine regular waves. Verification is performed using four refinement levels in order to reliably assess numerical uncertainties. A detailed uncertainty analysis comprises both numerical and experimental data. Comparable uncertainties are exhibited in simulations and experiments, with good agreement of results.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Verification and validation of the CFD code for green sea loads. </LI> <LI> Detailed verification using least squares fit method for unsteady flows. </LI> <LI> Results validated against experimental measurements. </LI> <LI> Paper shows the state of a modern CFD code for green sea assessment. </LI> </UL> </P>

Music festivals are an important expression of the human activity that contribute much to the social and cultural life of the host community and to establishing the relationships with the tourists-visitors of festivals. The venue of the music festival "Exit" is the famous European fortress (petrovaradin Fortress) near Novi Sad (the capital of the Serbian Province Vojvodina in the North of Serbia), which is built in the 18th century. In this paper we shall present the impact of the music festival "Exit" on the tourism development of the region of Novi Sad and to reestablishment on social and cultural relationships on the teritory of the former Yugoslavia.

Fluoropolymer conformal coatings were applied to electronic boards (EBs) and cured at room temperature or 80°C. The coatings were first deposited on model substrate, i.e. aluminium alloy AA 2024 and tested for their anticorrosion properties with a potentiodynamic polarisation technique. The cathodic current densities ranged from 10−9 - 10−10 A/cm2, approaching the lower current limit after the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles into the formulation. Application of fluoropolymer-based formulation was performed via spray-coating deposition. Examination of the coverage of EBs under UV light, which is commonly used in industry, revealed that some components might not be entirely covered. In the search for other possible analytical tools of coverage with protective coatings, optical microscopy and confocal Raman spectroscopy were investigated.
