The catch composition of commercially important species of the stationary lift net at Barangay Gines, Miagao, Iloilo, the Philippines was investigated from December 2013 to May 2014 during the different phases of the moon. A total of 486 kg of fish coming from 12 different genera, including mollusk and crustaceans, was caught and identified from the catch of the stationary lift net. Among the 12 genera identified from the catch of stationary lift net, anchovy (Stolephorus), sardines (Sardinella), squid (Loligo) and mysid shrimp (Acetes) were considered to be commercially important due to their value. Acetes catch was highest during the new moon in the month of January. Loligo catch was also high during the new moon except in the month of May. Stolephorus catch was also highest during the new moon except in the month of January. Sardinella catch was highest during the first quarter in the month of February. Full moon had the lowest catch all throughout the duration of the study while new moon had the highest catch during December 2013 to March 2014 and first quarter was the highest in the months of April and May.

Background: This study compared everolimus and mycophenolate mofetil, each paired with calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs) and used with or without steroids, for maintaining immunosuppression in kidney transplant (KT) patients. Methods: Relevant studies published before August 21, 2022 were retrieved from PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the gray literature. The risk of bias was assessed independently using the revised Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool (RoB 2). RevMan ver. 5.4 was used to calculate the risk ratios (RRs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for biopsy-proven acute rejection, death, and infection. The mean difference (MD) was used to compare the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) between the groups. Results: Sixteen randomized controlled trials with a total of 5,403 patients were synthesized to compare everolimus (n=2,763) with mycophenolate (n=2,542) for maintaining post-KT immunosuppression. The meta-analysis showed no significant difference in the risk for biopsy-proven acute rejection (RR=1.12; 95% CI, 0.92–1.35; I2=29%) and death (RR=0.85; 95% CI, 0.63–1.16; I2=0%). The eGFR had no significant difference between the two groups (MD=0.93; 95% CI, −2.25 to 4.1; I2=84%). The risk for any infection was significantly higher in the mycophenolate group than in the everolimus group (RR=0.83; 95% CI, 0.73−0.93; I2=66%). Conclusions: Our meta-analysis showed that when paired with a CNI, everolimus and mycophenolate had no difference in risk for biopsy-proven acute rejection, death, or increase in eGFR. However, the mycophenolate group exhibited a significantly higher risk of infection.

A growing body of research has investigated how school staff attitudes and beliefs towards immigrant students play a crucial role in their process of integration. However, the literature has consistently focused on the effects of teachers’ beliefs on immigrant students’ academic achievements, omitting other factors such as the effect on students’ social interactions. Based on cases from Chile, this article examines the attitudes, prejudices, and beliefs that school staff have regarding immigrant students and how these images affect immigrants’ relationships with their Chilean peers. I relied on 75 in-depth interviews with students and school staff and 46 classroom observations from seven high schools in the Metropolitan Region of Chile. Results show that national origin-based stereotypes shape the way that educators see and understand immigrant students’ relationships with their peers. Moreover, these national-based stereotypes directly alter immigrant students’ integration with their Chilean peers by reinforcing Chilean students’ prejudices towards their immigrant peers and by affecting immigrants’ self-identity, confidence, and wellbeing.

Hybrid devices consisting of metallophthalocyanines, MPcs(M=Zn, Cu), doped with a Tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivativeand dispersed in nylon 11 have been prepared by using a thermalevaporation technique. The effects of thermal relaxation on thestructure and morphology of the samples were studied by FT-IRspectroscopy, SEM and X-ray diffraction. The thermalrelaxation in nylon 11 produced a crystalline arrangement in theα- and β-form MPc molecules. Changes in conductivity of thedevices suggest the formation of alternative paths for carrierconduction. It was found that the temperature-dependent electriccurrent in Zn devices showed a semiconductor behavior. Finally,the optical direct and indirect band gap of these hybrid deviceswas evaluated from optical absorption measurements. The bandgap values were found to decrease from 3.7 to 1.38 eV (for theZnPc device), and from 1.9 to 1.1 eV (for the CuPc device), withthe addition of TTF in the polymeric matrix.
