        「시라카바(白樺)」세대의 동양취미 -야나기 무네요시(柳宗열), 시가 나오야(志賀直哉), 와쓰지 데쓰로(和십哲郞)-

        이 글은 동시기의 서양취미를 동양취미로 바꾼 야나기 무네요시(柳宗열), 시가 나오야(志賀直哉), 와쓰지 데쓰로(和십哲郞)를 ``시라카바(白樺)``세대라는 틀로 파악한다. 또한 그들이 안고 있던 세대적 문제와 동양취미의 특색을 분석한다. ``시라카바``세대는 1919년 동시기에 각각 동양의 고사(古寺)나 불상을 애호한다. 그 배경에는 근대화가 일단락된 일본에서 성장한 그들의 세대적인 문제가 있었다. 그들은 ``개인주의``의 시대에 새로운 자아의 근거 모색과 서양과 동양과의 새로운 관계성의 구축을 모색하고 있었다. 그들의 동양취미의 특색은 감상주의, 예술로서의 고사·불상·불화의 발견, 일본과 동양과의 연결의식이다. 그들은 새로운 자아의 근거로서 내셔널리즘과 는 다른 일본에의 의식을 필요로 하고 있다. 그 결과 공간적으로도 시간적으로도 먼 고대동양을 찾았다고 생각된다. In this essay, Muneyoshi Yanagi, Naoya Shiga and Tetsuro Watsuji, who changed their tastes from the Western to the Orient, are taken as the ``Shirakaba`` generation. Besides, this essay will analyze their generational problems and the characteristics of Oriental tastes. People in the generation respectively began to love old Oriental temples and Buddhist statues at the same time in 1919. In the background, there were some generational problems peculiar to the people who grew up in Japan, where the modernization has been accomplished. They were seeking for their new identities in the time of individualism and the new relationship between the Western and the Oriental. The characteristics of their Oriental tastes were an appreciation principle, discoveries of old temples Buddhist statues and Buddhist pictures as arts, and the realization of the relationship between Japan and the Orient. They needed to recognize Japan differently from nationalism for their new identities. As a result, they pursued the Old Orient, which was far from Japan in terms of space and time.

        Interface State and Coercivity in Nd-Fe-B/Dy Films

        We fabricated a model interface system, which consised of a Nd2Fe14B layer with Dy overlayers,in order to study the relationship between the microstructure near the interface and the coercivity. The coercivity Hc of the 1-µm-thick Nd-Fe-B films with a Dy overlayer was enhanced by thermaldiffusion of Dy atoms from the film’s surface into the Nd-Fe-B layer. The Nd-Fe-B/Dy films annealedat 700℃ showed a significant increase in the Hc of up to about 17 kOe. The maximum increasein the value of the coercivity ΔHc of the annealed films with a Dy overlayer was approximately 13kOe. The XRD measurement suggested the existence of rare-earth oxides (NdO and Dy2O3) in theDy-coated films with high value of the ΔHc.

        Molecular Design and Biological Activities of NF-kB Inhibitors

        NF-kB is a transcription factor that induces inflamma-tory cytokines and anti-apoptotic proteins. We de-signed a new NF-kB inhibitor that is based on the structure of the antibiotic epoxyquinomicin C. The designed compound, dehydroxymethyl-epoxyquino-micin (DHMEQ), inhibited the TNF-a-induced activa-tion of NF-kB, and showed an anti-arthritic effect in mice. Recently, we looked into its mechanism of inhibi-tion. DHMEQ inhibited the TNF-a-induced cellular DNA binding of nuclear NF-kB, but not the phos-phorylation or degradation of I-kB. Moreover, DHMEQ inhibited the TNF-a-induced nuclear accu-mulation of p65, a component of NF-kB. On the other hand, DHMEQ did not inhibit the nuclear transport of Smad2 and the large T antigen. Also, it did not inhibit the TNF-a-induced activation of JNK, but synergisti-cally induced apoptosis with TNF-a in human T cell leukemia Jurkat cells. Therefore, DHMEQ specifically inhibited the NF-kB-activating pathway in the TNF-a-treated cells. Taken together, our data show that DHMEQ is a unique inhibitor of NF-kB that acts at the level of the nuclear translocation. It may be useful as an anti-inflammatory and anticancer agent.

        Relationship Between Performance Improvement in Activities of Daily Living and Energy Intake in Older Patients With Hip Fracture Undergoing Rehabilitation

        Objective To analyze whether sufficient energy intake (EI) improves performance of activities of daily living (ADL) in patients with hip fracture admitted to rehabilitation hospitals. The adequate amount of EI for improving performance of ADL in patients with hip fracture remains unknown. Methods This retrospective cohort study included all patients with hip fracture (n=234) admitted to rehabilitation hospitals in Japan. The inclusion criteria for this study were age >65 years and body mass index <30.0 kg/m2. Patients who were transferred to an acute hospital and those with missing case data were excluded. According to the amount of EI, the patients were classified into energy sufficiency and shortage groups (EI/total energy expenditure ≥1.0 and <1.0, respectively). The Functional Independence Measure (FIM) and FIM gain were used to evaluate the patient disability level and change in patient status in response to rehabilitation. Finally, FIM gain was calculated as the discharge FIM score minus the admission FIM score. Results The final analysis targeted 202 patients—53 (26.2%) were in the energy shortage group and 149 (73.8%) were in the energy sufficiency group. The energy sufficiency group had a greater FIM gain than the energy shortage group (mean, 25.1±14.2 vs. 19.7±16.4; p=0.024). Furthermore, sufficient EI in the first week since admission (β=0.165; 95% confidence interval, 0.392–5.230; p=0.023) was an independent factor of FIM gain. Conclusion Among elderly patients with hip fracture admitted to rehabilitation hospitals in Japan, the amount of EI during the first week after admission was an independent factor of FIM gain.

        A Cu(1 1 1)(√3 X √3)R30° -Sb structure by impact collision ion-scattering spectroscopy

        We have investigated the structures of Cu(111)(p3 .p3)R30.-Sb using time of ight-impact collision ion-scattering spec-troscopy. The experimental data and computer simulations support a structural model for the Cu(111)(p3 .p3)R30.-Sb structurein which Sb atoms displace up to 1=3 of the rst layer of Cu atoms and incorporate them into the rst Cu layer with the Sb atomsdisplaced outward 0.40.A with respect to the rst-layer Cu atoms. The outermost rst layer of Sb and Cu atoms shift from fcc- tohcp-hollow sites (only the top layer of Sb and Cu atoms occupies hcp hollow sites).. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

      • Molecular design and biological activities of NF-ĸB and protein-tyrosine phosphatase inhibitors

        NF-ĸB is a transcription factor that mediates the expression of a variety of cellular genes regulating inflammation, immune responses, and sensitivity to apoptosis. NF-ĸB is constitutively activated in various human carcinomas. Therefore, NF-ĸB inhibitors may be developed into new cancer chemotherapeutic agents. Recently, we designed and synthesized a dehydroxymethyl derivative of epoxyquinomicin C(DHMEQ) as an NF-ĸB function inhibitor(Bioorg. Med. Chem. Lett. 10, 865-869, 2000). We tested the effect of DHMEQ on TNF-α-induced NF-ĸB activation in human T cell leukemia Jurkat cells. In a DNA mobility shift assay DHMEQ inhibited the binding of nuclear NF-ĸB to ĸB DNA. On the other hand, DHMEQ did not inhibit TNF-α-induced phosphorylation and degradation of I-ㅏB as judged from the results of West em blotting analysis. DHMEQ also inhibited the translocation of NF-kB from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. DHMEQ increased the sensitivity of Jurkat cells to apoptosis, and showed an anti-arthritic effect in mice. It also showed antitumor activity in mice. To develop new chemotherapeutic agents for type 2 diabetes mellitus we designed and synthesized protein-tyrosine phosphatase(PTPase) inhibitors. We previously isolated dephostatin from Streptomyces as a novel inhibitor of CD45-associated PTPase(J. Antibiot. 46, 1342-1346, 1993). We prepared its stable analogue, Et-3,4-dephostatin, and found it to specifically inhibit PTP-1B which is known to negatively regulate insulin activities. Et-3,4-dephostatin increased tyrosine phosphorylation of insulin receptors and IRS-1 in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Et-3,4-dephostatin enhanced translocation of GLUT4 from the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane and 2-deoxyglucose transport(J. Biol. Chem. 276, 27511-27518, 2001). We further designed nitrosamine-free analogues by calculation employing the software for CH/π interaction. As a result, methoxime-3,4-dephostatin having no nitrosamine was found to inhibit PTP-1B effectively(Tetrahedron 56, 741-752, 2000). Et-3,4-dephostatin and methoxime-3,4-dephostatin showed antidiabetic effect in vivo by oral administartion.

        사소설 문법으로 읽는 재일조선인문학-이회성(李恢成)과 이양지(李良枝) 작품을 중심으로-

        사소설에 <문법>이라 할 만한 것이 있을지는 어려운 문제이지만, 사소설에 독특한 <구조>와 같은 것은 있다. 그것은 소설가 본인이 과거의 <다층적인 자기>와 마주 대함으로써 자기상을 변화시킨다는 점이다. 이 글에서는 이와 같은 사소설의 문법, 혹은 구조의 관점에서 이회성과 이양지의 작품에 대해서 검증해가고자 한다. 두 작가는 둘 다 <조선인>이고 싶다는 이상과 <재일>이라는 현실에 괴로워하지만, 최종적으로 <재일>이라는 현실을 받아들여간다. 이 글에서는 이회성의 『다시 두 번째 길(またふたたびの道)』, 『죽은 자와 산 자의 도시(死者と生者の市)』, 이양지의 『나비 타령(ナビ·タリョン)』, 『유희(由煕)』를 거론하면서 사소설의 문법, 구조의 관점에서 두 작가의 변화에 관해서 고찰하고자 한다. A grammar of autobiographical fictions(私小說) does not exist. However, certain ‘structure’ of autobiographical fiction exists. In a autobiographical fiction, the narrator usually changes its self-image by facing his/her ‘multiple layers’ of self. In this perspective, this paper aims to analyze Lee Hoe Seong and Lee Yang Ji’s novels. Two authors both have a dream of being ‘Joseonin’(朝鮮人), however they are suffered for reality of being ‘Jainichi’(在日). Eventually, they both begin to accept their ‘reality’ as ‘Jainichi’. Lee Hoe Seong’s Road, again(またふたたびの道) and A city of the dead, and the living(死者と生者の市), Lee Yang Ji’s Nabi Taryeong(ナビ․タリョン) and Yuhui(由煕) have been chosen for targets of analysis. This study focuses on the transition of two authors in respect of a grammar or a structure of autobiographical fictions.

        Modified Structural Modeling Method and Its Application: Behavior Analysis of Passengers for East Japan Railway Company

        In order to cope with the ill-defined problem of human behavior being immanent uncertainty, several methodologies have been studied in game theoretic, social psychological and political science frameworks. As methods to arrange system elements systematically and draw out the consenting structural model concretively, ISM, FSM and DEMATEL based on graph theory etc. have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a modified structural modeling method to recognize the nature of problem. We introduce the statistical method to adjust the establishment levels in group decision situation. From this, it will become possible to obtain effectively and smoothly the structural model of group members in comparison with the traditional methods. Further we propose a procedure for achieving the consenting structural model of group members based on the structural modeling method. By applying the method to recognize the nature of ill-defined problems, it will be possible to solve the given problem effectively and rationally. In order to inspect the effectiveness of the method, we conduct a practical problem as an empirical study: "Behavior analysis of passengers for the Joban line of East Japan Railway Company after new railway service of Tsukuba Express opened".
