In this study, we proposed a straightforward electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) loaded with silver nanoparticles (SNPs)membrane fabrication process, in which SNPs were directly synthesized from silver nitrate (AgNO3) in PCL–acetone mixtureby gamma irradiation. The insolubility of AgNO3in PCL solution was solved using an auxiliary dimethyl sulfoxide solvent. As a physical approach, gamma rays readily converted silver ions into SNPs without the addition of harmful reductionagents, which reduced the cytotoxicity of the synthesized material. By avoiding some processes such as purification, solventremoval, or redispersion of SNPs, this method was more time-saving compared to other related studies. SNPs formation wasconfirmed by both UV–Visible spectrum (UV–Vis) and X-ray diffraction analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)revealed that the addition of SNPs significantly reduced the fiber diameter of PCL–Ag membranes compared to that of rawPCL. Uniform spherical-shaped SNPs incorporated in PCL fibers were observed under transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The tensile test showed that the electrospun PCL–Ag membranes exhibited good mechanical characteristics. Moistureeasily penetrated the porous microstructure of PCL–Ag, facilitating wound humidity regulation. Inductively coupledplasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) was employed to study the release profiles of SNPs at different time intervals. Overall, the PCL–Ag 500 ppm sample exerted excellent antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcusaureus strains and low in vitro cytotoxicity.

This paper developed a complete and accurate mathematical model for a typical variable displacement vane-type oil pump to investigate the working performance of the pump. Firstly, the detailed theoretical model was built based on pump’s geometric design and dynamic analyses. Next, numerical simulations with the constructed model and experiments on the real pump system were carried out to analyze the main power loss factors in order to develop the complete model with high accuracy. The estimated pump performance using the complete pump model was finally verified by numerical simulations in comparison with the practical tests.

Over the past three decades, micropumps have been intensively interested to handle and to carry small and precise volumes of liquid in many fields of modern industry. Especially, smart actuator based diaphragm micropumps have received considerable attention because of its simple structure and operation precisely. However, hysteresis phenomenon in the smart actuator is the barrier which prevents the system functioning correctly. This study deals with a mitigation strategy of the hysteresis effects for a typical dielectric electro-active polymer actuator based diaphragm micropump in order to improve the performance of the micropump. Firstly, the forward and inverse hysteresis models are designed and optimized to describe the rate-dependent hysteresis behavior of the actuation system. The model-based control method is then developed and validated to drive the system precisely at high frequencies. Finally, experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the control strategy in a real application. As a result, the hysteresis behaviors of the smart actuator are effectively compensated at the frequencies up to 1Hz and a maximum time average flow rate of 1.443 mL/min and maximum backpressure of 833.5 Pa at room temperature are recorded.
Development of an Electronically Controlled Variable Displacement Vane Pump for Engine Lubrication
Truong, Dinh Quang,Truong, Bui Ngoc Minh,Ahn, Kyoung Kwan,Lee, Jae Shin Korean Society for Precision Engineering 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.16 No.9
Lubrication is one of the most important factors in developing internal combustion engines. And vane pumps are known as potential choices for conducting the engine lubrication systems. To better optimize the lubrication performance, an electronically controlled variable displacement vane pump developed from a typical vane pump is newly introduced in this paper. Firstly, the concept and methodology to design properly an electric actuator to provide an additionally degree of pump control by regulating the pump displacement is carefully considered. Secondly, a control logic is developed to manage the operation of the actuator and subsequently, smoothly varying the pump output in order to satisfy any given lubrication profile. Finally, test rigs are setup to investigate the performances of the fabricated actuator and pump prototype. Practical tests are performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the newly pump design over the typical one.
Zein-based solid dispersion for potential application in targeted delivery
Minh Ngoc‑Uyen Nguyen,Toi Van Vo,Phuong Ha‑Lien Tran,Thao Truong‑Dinh Tran 한국약제학회 2017 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.47 No.4
The study aims to design and evaluate the ability of zein in solid dispersion (SD) system to enhance drug dissolution rate for a further application of colonic delivery of poorly water-soluble drug. The SD samples were prepared by solvent method and the investigation of drug release was performed at pH 7.4. The wettability, molecular interactions and drug’s crystal behaviours of SDs were studied by contact angle measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), respectively. Zein-based SDs showed its potential in enhancing the rate of drug release. The PXRD results pointed out a rearrangement of drug’s crystalline structure in some SD samples through the appearance of new peaks on PXRD diffractogram, while a formation of a hydrogen bond between prednisolone (PRL) and zein was also confirmed by FTIR spectra. It was evident that a strong relationship between the amount of zein and the dissolution rate of PRL in SD system attributed to zein hydrophobicity, recrystallization and molecular interaction which were factors inducing the enhanced drug release rate. In conclusion, zein is a potential carrier for controlled release SD systems, especially further application for poorly water-soluble drugs in colonic delivery like PRL due to the resistance of zein at low pH environment.

Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrinopathies among reproductive-age women. Its metabolic features often overlap with those associated with metabolic syndrome (MS) and insulin resistance syndrome (IRS). Theobjective of this study was to determine the prevalence and predictors of MS and IRS in infertile Vietnamese women with PCOS. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary fertility centre at Hue University Hospital from June 2016 to November 2017. A total of 441 infertile women diagnosed with PCOS based on the revised 2003 Rotterdam consensus criteria were enrolled. MS and IRS were defined based on the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute/American Heart Association Adult Treatment Panel III 2005 and American College of Endocrinology IRS 2003 criteria, respectively. Complete clinical and biochemicalmeasurements of 318 women were available for analysis. Independent predictors of MS and IRS were identified using multivariatelogistic regression. Results: The overall prevalence of MS and IRS in women with PCOS was 10.4% and 27.0%, respectively. We identified older age(>30 years) and obesity as independent predictors of MS and IRS. Elevated anti-Müllerian hormone levels increased the risk of IRS,but not that of MS. Conclusion: MS and IRS are prevalent disorders among infertile Vietnamese women with PCOS. PCOS is not solely a reproductiveproblem. Screening and early intervention for MS and/or IRS based on anthropometric, metabolic, and reproductive hormone riskfactors should be an integral part of fertility care.
Experimental Demonstration of Sequence Recognition of Serial Memristors
Son Ngoc Truong,Khoa Van Pham,양원선,조안재,Huan Minh Vo,이미정,민경식 대한금속·재료학회 2017 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.13 No.1
The sequence recognition is very essential in mimicking brain’s neocorticalfunction because most of input patterns to brain’s neocortex are dynamicallychanging over time, not static regardless of time. In this paper, we experimentallydemonstrate the sequence recognition for various input sequences using serialmemristors, for the first time. In this experiment, the serial memristors are used, which were fabricated with carbon fiber and aluminum film on glass substrate. Toverify the sequence recognition, we store the following 3 sequences in thefabricated serial memristors, which are ‘A’→‘B’→‘C’, ‘B’→‘A’→‘C’, and‘C’→‘B’→‘A’, respectively. By performing this experiment, it is verified theserial memristors are changed to Low Resistance State only when the inputsequence matches the stored one. When the input sequence is different from thestored one, the serial memristors remain unchanged. The simple voltagecomparator can be used to sense the output voltage to indicate whether thesequence matching happens or not. This experimental demonstration can be veryuseful to realize memristor crossbars which can process the temporal andsequential patterns in future.
A Low-Cost Speech to Sign Language Converter
Le, Minh,Le, Thanh Minh,Bui, Vu Duc,Truong, Son Ngoc International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.3
This paper presents a design of a speech to sign language converter for deaf and hard of hearing people. The device is low-cost, low-power consumption, and it can be able to work entirely offline. The speech recognition is implemented using an open-source API, Pocketsphinx library. In this work, we proposed a context-oriented language model, which measures the similarity between the recognized speech and the predefined speech to decide the output. The output speech is selected from the recommended speech stored in the database, which is the best match to the recognized speech. The proposed context-oriented language model can improve the speech recognition rate by 21% for working entirely offline. A decision module based on determining the similarity between the two texts using Levenshtein distance decides the output sign language. The output sign language corresponding to the recognized speech is generated as a set of sequential images. The speech to sign language converter is deployed on a Raspberry Pi Zero board for low-cost deaf assistive devices.

A novel organic photocatalyst, 4-(10H-phenothiazin-10-yl)-N,N-diphenylaniline (PDPA) has been successfully synthesized from triphenylamine and phenothiazine moiety via Buchwald-Hartwig C-N coupling. The chemical structure of catalyst was characterized via proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and the optical properties were investigated via UV-vis spectroscopy. The PDPA has been applied as an organic photocatalyst for metal free atom transfer radical polymerization (O-ATRP). The well-controlled molecular weights of polymethacrylates have been obtained with high yield of 95% and narrow polydispersity index (Đ).
