        Income Distribution and Factors Affecting the Bank’s Stability

        Purpose: Research on banking sustainability plays an important role in helping banks understand the level of risk in different types of companies. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the sustainability of Joint Stock Commercial Banks in Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: The following theories, the factors affecting the bank's sustainability include: Business model diversification (income diversification), bank size, loan ratio, and net interest margin. Data was collected from Joint Stock Commercial banks in Vietnam from 2015 to 2019. With GLS model on panel data with banks listed on Vietnam stock exchange. Results: The analysis results show that net interest income has a positive impact on the sustainable business results of banks through the rate of return on total assets (ROA). The non-interest income hasn’t impact on bank stability. From this result, there aren’t positive signs of income diversification in banks. At the same time, with the obtained results, the study also provides a policy implication for banks. Conclusions: The study also provides some policy implications to improve the bank stability. Diversifying income in banks is necessary, but how to make it influential banks has not yet been done. Therefore, the adjustments in non-interest business activities need to be carefully considered by banks.

        Changes in cancer screening before and during COVID-19: findings from the Korean National Cancer Screening Survey 2019 and 2020

        OBJECTIVES: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has negatively affected every aspect of medical care. However, information regarding the impact of the pandemic on cancer screening is lacking. This study aimed to explore cancer screening changes by geographic region before and during the pandemic in Korea. METHODS: Korean National Cancer Screening Survey data for 2019 and 2020 were used. Changes in the screening rate before and during the COVID-19 pandemic were calculated by subtracting the rate in 2020 from the rate in 2019. Multivariate logistic regression analyses examined the differences in screening rates at the national and 16 provincial levels before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. RESULTS: The 1-year screening rates for the four types of cancer decreased during the pandemic (stomach cancer: -5.1, colorectal cancer: -3.8, breast cancer: -2.5, cervical cancer: -1.5%p). In metropolitan areas, the odds of undergoing screening tests during the pandemic were significantly lower than before the pandemic for stomach (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.66; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.56 to 0.76), colorectal (aOR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.50 to 0.79), and breast cancers (aOR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.60 to 0.94). Furthermore, the likelihood of undergoing stomach cancer screening during the pandemic was significantly lower than before the pandemic in non-metropolitan urban areas (aOR, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.70 to 0.94), while it was higher in rural areas (aOR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.10 to 2.16). CONCLUSIONS: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the cancer screening rate has decreased significantly, especially in large cities. Public health efforts are required to improve cancer screening rates.

        On the properties of positive Boolean dependencies by groups in the database model of block form

        The article proposed a new type of data relationship: Positive Boolean dependencies by groups on block and slice in the database model of block form, where instead of considering value pairs, we consider a group of p values ({p \geq 2}). From this new concept, the article stated and demonstrated the equivalence of the three types of deduction, namely: deduction by logic, deduction by block with groups, deduction by block has no more than p elements with groups. Operations on blocks or slices performed for index attributes on blocks, the properties related to this new concept as theorem the equivalen of the three types of deduction, closure of set positive Boolean dependencies by groups and representation and tight representation set of positive Boolean dependencies by groups when the block degenerated into relation are true in the relational database model and also stated and proven in this paper.

        Fully integrated and slidable paper-embedded plastic microdevice for point-of-care testing of multiple foodborne pathogens

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study presents a slidable paper-embedded plastic microdevice fully integrated with DNA extraction, loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), and colorimetric detection functionalities. The developed microdevice consists of three layers that allow a sliding movement to mix the sample and reagents for DNA purification, amplification, and detection in a sequential manner. An FTA card was employed in the main chamber for DNA extraction and purification from intact bacterial cells. Subsequently, LAMP reagents and fuchsin-stored chambers were pulled toward the main chambers for DNA amplifications at 65 °C. After 30 min, the detection reagents-stored chambers were then moved to main chambers for result analysis. For the detection of LAMP amplicons, a novel colorimetric fuchsin-based method was employed. The wide applicability of the integrated microdevice was demonstrated by successfully screening three major foodborne pathogens, namely <I>Salmonella</I> spp., <I>Staphylococcus aureus</I>, and <I>Escherichia coli</I> O157:H7 in food, enabling highly sensitive detection of 3.0 × 10<SUP>1</SUP> CFU/sample of Gram-negative bacteria (<I>Salmonella</I> spp. and <I>Escherichia coli</I> O157:H7) and 3.0 × 10<SUP>2</SUP> CFU/sample of Gram-positive bacteria (<I>Staphylococcus aureus</I>) within 75 min. The portable and integrated microdevice presented in this study holds significant promise for point-of-care applications to accurately and rapidly diagnose and control diseases.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The integrated microdevice could identify major foodborne pathogens in 75 min. </LI> <LI> DNA extraction, amplification, and detection were performed in a seamless manner. </LI> <LI> The loading and moving of samples were controlled simply by sliding the microdevice. </LI> <LI> The results were analyzed directly on chip using fuchsin, a triphenylmethane dye. </LI> <LI> 3 × 10<SUP>1</SUP> CFU/sample of Gram-negative bacteria and 3 × 10<SUP>2</SUP> CFU/sample of Gram-positive bacteria were detected. </LI> </UL> </P>

        The development of the ethnic minorities and mountainous areas (EMMA) is currently receiving the attention of countries around the world. This is demonstrated through a large number of studies, in many respects, in many different countries. The objective of the study is to find out the current situation of the commodity market in the ethnic minorities and mountainous areas (EMMA) of Vietnam. In particular, the authors will study whether there is a link between the ability to access governmental policies and the characteristics of this commodity market. To achieve the goal, the authors employed the secondary data collection method to gather the relevant information on government policies for EMMA and conducted an interview of seventy (70) enterprises in the Northern midlands and mountainous regions and the Central Coast to clarify the characteristics of commodity market. By Levene’s test, the results showed that the accessibility to governmental policies has a certain influence on the development of the commodity market patterns in the EMMA in terms of diversification of distribution forms and sales method of the business. These findings brought some basic solutions to further enhance the role of the government in developing commodity markets in the EMMA of Vietnam.

        Coordinated Voltage Control Scheme for Multi-Terminal Low-Voltage DC Distribution System

        This paper focuses on voltage control schemes for multi-terminal low-voltage direct current (LVDC) distribution systems. In a multi-terminal LVDC distribution system, there can be multiple AC/DC converters that connect the LVDC distribution system to the AC grids. This configuration can provide enhanced reliability, grid-supporting functionality, and higher efficiency. The main applications of multi-terminal LVDC distribution systems include flexible power exchange between multiple power grids and integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) using DC voltages such as photovoltaics (PVs) and battery energy storage systems (BESSs). In multi-terminal LVDC distribution systems, voltage regulation is one of the most important issues for maintaining the electric power balance between demand and supply and providing high power quality to end customers. This paper focuses on a voltage control method for multi-terminal LVDC distribution system that can efficiently coordinate multiple control units, such as AC/DC converters, PVs and BESSs. In this paper, a control hierarchy is defined for undervoltage (UV) and overvoltage (OV) problems in LVDC distribution systems based on the control priority between the control units. This paper also proposes methods to determine accurate control commands for AC/DC converters and DERs. By using the proposed method, we can effectively maintain the line voltages in multi-terminal LVDC distribution systems in the normal range. The performance of the proposed voltage control method is evaluated by case studies.

        In uence of the State of the Tungsten Tip on STM Topographic Images of SnSe Surfaces

        Tin selenide (SnSe) has recently attracted significant attention because of its excellent thermo- electric properties with a figure of merit (ZT) of 2.6. Previous scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) studies of SnSe surfaces showed that only Sn atoms are resolved in topographic images due to the dominant contribution of the Sn 5pz states in tunneling. However, when the state of the tungsten (W) tip changes from a typical four-lobe d state such as dxy or dx2-y2 to a two-lobe dz2 state, the atomic features observed on the SnSe surface in STM topography can be dramatically altered. In this report, we present the results of a systematic study on the in uence of the W tip's states on the STM images of SnSe surfaces. Sn atoms are observed with much stronger corrugation amplitude and smaller apparent radius when the tip is in a dz2 state. In addition, the atomic features of the Se atoms become visible because of the sharply focused shape of the W dz2 state. We expect our results to provide important information for establishing a better understanding of the microscopic nature of SnSe surfaces.

        Application of Nanosized Zero-valent Iron-Activated Persulfate for Treating Groundwater Contaminated with Phenol

        Persulfate (PS) activated with nanosized zero-valent iron (NZVI) was tested as a reagent to remove phenol from groundwater. Batch degradation experiments indicated that NZVI/PS molar ratios between 1 : 2 and 1 : 5 were appropriate for complete removal of phenol, and that the time required for complete removal varied with different PS and NZVI dosages. Chloride ions up to 100 mM enhanced the phenol oxidation rate, and nitrate of any concentration up to 100 mM did not significantly affect the oxidation rate. NZVI showed greater performance than ferrous iron did as an activator for PS. A by-product was formed along with phenol degradation but subsequently was completely degraded, which showed the potential to attain mineralization with the NZVI/PS system. Tests with radical quenchers indicated that sulfate radicals were a predominant radical. The results of this study suggest that NZVI is a promising activator of PS for treating contaminated groundwater.
