Prolonged Tp-e Interval, Tp-e/QT Ratio and Tp-e/QTc Ratio in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Alptug Tokatli,Fethi Kiliçaslan,Metin Alis,Omer Yiginer,Mehmet Uzun 대한내분비학회 2016 Endocrinology and metabolism Vol.31 No.1
Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with increased risk of malignant ventricular arrhythmias. Cardiac electrical inhomogeneity may be the leading cause of the increased arrhythmic risk in patients with T2DM. The peak and the end of the T wave (Tp-e) interval and associated Tp-e/QT ratio are promising measures of ventricular repolarization indicating transmural dispersion of repolarization. The aim of this study was to assess ventricular repolarization in patients with T2DM by using Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT ratio and Tp-e/corrected QT interval (QTc) ratio. Methods: Forty-three patients with T2DM and 43 healthy control subjects, matched by gender and age, were studied. All participants underwent electrocardiography (ECG) recording. PR, RR and QT intervals represents the ECG intervals. These are not abbreviations. In all literature these ECG intervals are written like in this text. Tp-e intervals were measured from 12-lead ECG. Rate QTc was calculated by using the Bazett’s formula. Tp-e/QT ratio and Tp-e/QTc ratio were also calculated. Results: Mean Tp-e interval was significantly prolonged in patients with T2DM compared to controls (79.4± 10.3, 66.4± 8.1 ms, respectively; P<0.001). We also found significantly higher values of Tp-e/QT ratio and Tp-e/QTc ratio in patients with diabetes than controls (0.21± 0.03, 0.17± 0.02 and 0.19± 0.02, 0.16± 0.02, respectively; P<0.001). There was no difference in terms of the other ECG parameters between the groups. Conclusion: Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT ratio and Tp-e/QTc ratio were prolonged in patients with T2DM. We concluded that T2DM leads to augmentation of transmural dispersion of repolarization suggesting increased risk for ventricular arrhythmogenesis.

This study aims to evaluate biogenic amine levels of bez sucuks (BS) produced with different meat:fat ratios. For this, three BS groups were manufactured with meat:fat ratios of 90:10 (BS10), 80:20 (BS20), and 70:30 (BS30). The pH and water activity values and biogenic amine amounts of sucuk samples were determined during processing and storage periods and the pH values of the initial mixtures of BS samples were in the range 5.51-5.74, decreasing to 4.72-4.94 by the 14th day. The water activity values of BS samples showed significant decreases as a result of the drying stage and reached to range 0.913-0.935 on the 14th day of processing (p<0.05). Although BS10 had the highest tyramine (434.12 mg/kg), histamine (5.69 mg/kg), cadaverine (12.48 mg/kg), putrescine (17.83 mg/kg), 2-phenylethylamine (15.43 mg/kg), and tryptamine (122.41 mg/kg) levels at the end of processing stage (p<0.05), spermine and spermidine levels did not differ between the BS samples due to their utilization of different meat:fat ratios (p>0.05). Similarly, the tryptamine (205.11 mg/kg), putrescine (43.57 mg/kg), and tyramine (766.23 mg/kg) levels of BS10 were higher than BS20 and BS30 samples at the end of storage (p<0.05). The results showed that BS10 with the highest meat ratio had the highest tryptamine, putrescine, and tyramine levels at the end of the processing and storage period.
Colonic Metastasis from Carcinoma of the Breast that Mimicks a Primary Intestinal Cancer
Kazim Uygun,Zafer Kocak,Semsi Altaner,Irfan Cicin,Fusun Tokatli,Cem Uzal 연세대학교의과대학 2006 Yonsei medical journal Vol.47 No.4
Although the lung, liver, or bones are the most common location for distant metastases in breast cancer patients, metastases to the intestinal tract are very rarely recognized in the clinic. We will present an unusual case of colonic metastasis from a carcinoma of the breast that mimics a primary intestinal cancer, along with a through review of English language medical literature. Despite the fact that isolated gastrointestinal (GI) metastases are very rare and much less common than benign disease processes or second primaries of the intestinal tract in patients with a history of breast cancer, metastatic disease should be given consideration whenever a patient experiences GI symptoms.

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the audiologic results after cochlear implantation (CI) in older patients and the degree of improvement in their quality of life (QoL).Subjects and Methods: Patients over 65 years old who underwent CI at implant center in Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital were included in this study (n=54; 34 males and 20 females). The control group was patient over 65 years old with normal hearing (n=54; 34 males and 20 females). We administered three questionnaires [World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), World Health Organization Quality of Life-OLD (WHOQOL-OLD)], and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) to evaluate the QoL, CIrelated effects on activities of daily life, and social activities in all the subjects. Moreover, correlations between speech recognition and the QoL scores were evaluated. The duration of implant use and comorbidities were also examined as potential factors affecting QoL.Results: The patients had remarkable improvements (the mean score of postoperative speech perception 75.7%) in speech perception after CI. The scores for the WHOQOL-OLD and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire responses were similar in both the study and control groups, except those for a two subdomains (social relations and social participation). The patients with longer-term CI had higher scores than those with short-term CI use. In general, the changes in GDS scores were not significant (<i>p</i><0.05).Conclusions: The treatment of hearing loss with CI conferred significant improvement in patient’s QoL (p<0.01). The evaluation of QoL can provide multidimensional insights into a geriatric patient’s progress and, therefore, should be considered by audiologists.
