Hierarchical faujasite zeolite-supported heteropoly acid catalyst for acetalization of crude-glycerol to fuel additives

Amin Talebian-Kiakalaieh,Sara Tarighi 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.79 No.-

Glycerol acetalization in the presence of aldehydes/ketals and acid catalysts leads to production of fueladditives, which could improve clean fuel ignition, promote combustion process, and reduce fuel gellingin the engine. In this study, hierarchical faujasite zeolite-supported heteropoly acid catalysts (HR/Y) wereprepared followed by impregnation of 10, 20 and 30 wt% phosphotungstic acid (HPW). The synthesizedcatalysts (HR/Y-Wx) were characterized using XRD, FTIR, FESEM, EDX, TEM, NH3-TPD and N2physisorption analyses. The impregnated hierarchical zeolites along with NaY zeolite were used ascatalysts in crude-glycerol acetalization to produce a fuel additive, 4-hydroxymethyl-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane (solketal). The catalysts possessed high thermal stability, large specific surface area, large porediameter (mesoporous structure) and strong acidic sites. The highest solketal yield of 97.85% at 100%crude-glycerol conversion was obtained over the HR/Y-W20 catalyst. Optimization studies revealed thatthe best solketal yield of 97.87% at complete reaction conversion could be achieved at 40 C with 10 wt%catalyst weight and 10/1 MR of AC/Gl in 2 h. The synthesized catalyst even maintained its activity after 30h reaction time due to its mesoporous structure and strong acidity. The impact of real impurities (e.g. water, methanol, and NaCl) on catalyst activity was evaluated and the results revealed that crude-glycerolacetalization over HR/Y-W20 acid catalyst was promising for solketal production with >86% solketal yieldat >97% glycerol conversion in the presence of high concentrations of impurities (15 wt% water, 10 wt%methanol, and 15 wt% NaCl). Results confirmed that the prepared HR/Y-W20 catalyst can be a potentialcandidate for future large scale research and development.

Gas phase selective conversion of glycerol to acrolein over supported silicotungstic acid catalyst

Amin Talebian-Kiakalaieh,Nor Aishah Saidina Amin,Zaki Yamani Zakaria 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.34 No.-

Gas phase dehydration of glycerol to acrolein over a series of supported HSiW on ZrO2 and nano-sized g-Al2O3 catalyst has been investigated. The characterization results revealed that impregnation of g-Al2O3nanoparticles increased the specific surface area, pore diameter, and thermal stability of the supportedcatalysts. The highest acrolein selectivity of 88.5% at 97.0% glycerol conversion was achieved over 0.5 g30HZ-20A catalyst in 3 h at glycerol feed concentration of 10 wt%, temperature = 300 ?C andTOF = 136 h 1. The coke deposition has no significant effect on the activity of 30HZ-20A catalyst. Indeed, the catalyst was stable even after 40 h.

Synthesis of hierarchical Y and ZSM-5 zeolites using post-treatment approach to maximize catalytic cracking performance

Amin Talebian-Kiakalaieh,Sara Tarighi 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.88 No.-

Hierarchical zeolites have been recently investigated as catalyst by micro-mesoporous framework toimprove the physical transport of large reactants molecules by eliminating the diffusion limitations. Inthis study, controlled mesoporosity was applied to synthesize two types of hierarchical zeolites by acid/base leaching and surfactant templating followed by steaming. The physico-chemical characteristics ofthe synthesized parent (NaY and ZSM-5) and hierarchical (UHR/Y and HR/ZSM-5) samples wereextensively characterized by XRD, FTIR, TGA, SEM, NH3-TPD, ICP, N2-ads/desorption techniques. The ICPresults revealed that post-synthesis approaches successfully washed off Al and Si atoms from the zeolitesframework and increased the SiO2/Al2O3 ratios from 3.13 to 6.20 and from 65.55 to 86.34 in UHR/Y andHR/ZSM-5 samples, respectively. Also, the BET analysis showed significant increase in the average porediameter (DP) size for UHR/Y (31%) and HR/ZSM-5 (153%) compared to their parent ones. Similarly, mesoporous pore volume (Vmeso) exhibited notable surge of 100% and 700% for UHR/Y and HR/ZSM-5,respectively in comparison with their parent forms. The synthesized parent and hierarchical zeoliteswere used in preparation offluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst. Catalyst performance was examined invacuum gas oil (VGO) cracking through a micro-activity test (MAT) unit. Products of interest includinggasoline, propylene, and total olefins exhibited significant yield increase from 29.80 to 50.87, 3.93 to16.41, and 7.36 to 24.98 wt%, respectively over the FCC-4 catalysts which prepared by hierarchical (UHR/Yand HR/ZSM-5) zeolites. The enhanced catalytic activity can be attributed to the absence of diffusionproblems and more accessibility of the acid sites in the hierarchical zeolite structure.

Pressure effects on dynamics behavior of multiwall boron nitride nanotubes

Taha Talebian 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.1

The dynamic behavior of Multiwall boron nitride nanotubes (MWBNNTs) is investigated by employing multiple elastic shells model. The influences of van der Waals interactions on layers are shown as nonlinear functions of the interlayer distance of MWBNNTs. Governingequations are solved by using the developed finite element method and by employing time history diagrams. The radial wavespeed from the outermost layer to the innermost layer is computed. The effects of geometrical factors such as diameter-to-thickness ratioon dynamic behavior of MWBNNTs are determined. The magnification aspects of MWBNNTs are computed, and the effects of surroundingpressures on wave speed and magnification aspect of MWBNNTs are discussed.

Teucrium polium L. Improved Heart Function and Inhibited Myocardial Apoptosis in Isolated Rat Heart Following Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Mahmoudabady, Maryam,Talebian, Faezeh Sadat,Zabihi, Narges Amel,Rezaee, Seyed Abdolrahim,Niazmand, Saeed KOREAN PHARMACOPUNCTURE INSTITUTE 2018 Journal of pharmacopuncture Vol.21 No.3

Objectives: Myocardial reperfusion is the only logical cure for ischemic heart disease. However, ischemic-reperfusion (I/R) injury is one of the underlying factors facilitating and accelerating the apoptosis in the myocardium. This study set to investigate the impact of Teucrium polium (TP) hydro-alcoholic extract on I/R induced apoptosis in the isolated rat heart. Methods: Isolated rat hearts were classified into six groups. The control samples were subjected to 80 min of perfusion with Krebs-Henseleit bicarbonate (KHB) buffer; in control-ischemia group, after primary perfusion (20 min) the hearts were exposed to global ischemia (20 min) and reperfusion (40 min). Pretreated groups were perfused with $500{\mu}M$ of vitamin C and various TP concentrations (0.5, 1, 2 mg/ml) for 20 min, and then the hearts were exposed to ischemia and reperfusion for 20 min and 40 min, respectively. Cardiodynamic parameters including rate pressure product (RPP), heart rate (HR), the maximum up/down rate of left ventricular pressure (${\pm}dp/dt$), left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP), and coronary artery flow (CF) were achieved from Lab Chart software data. The Bax and BCl-2 gene expressions were measured in heart samples. Results: Hearts treated with TP extract and vit C represented a meaningful improvement in cardiac contractile function and CF. The overexpression of Bcl-2, downregulation of Bax, and improvement of apoptotic index (Bax/Bcl-2) were observed in pretreated TP extract and vit C hearts. Conclusion: The TP extract was found to ameliorate the cardiac function in the reperfused myocardium. Also, it can hinder apoptotic pathways causing cardioprotection.

Effect of ascorbic acid, ethanol and acetone on adhesion between the treated fiber posts and composite resin cores

Khamverdi Zahra,Talebian Reza 대한치과보철학회 2012 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.4 No.4

PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of ascorbic acid, ethanol and acetone on microtensile bond strength between fiber posts pre-treated with hydrogen peroxide and composite resin cores. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty four fiber posts were pre-treated with 24% hydrogen peroxide and divided into 4 groups as follows: G1: no treatment, as control group; G2: treatment with 10% ascorbic acid solution for 5 minutes; G3: treatment with 70% ethanol solution for 5 minutes; and G4: treatment with70% acetone solution for 5 minutes. Each fiber post was surrounded by a cylinder-shaped polyglass matrix which was subsequently filled with composite resin. Two sections from each sample were selected for microtensile test at a crosshead with speed of 0.5 mm/min. Statistical analyses were performed using one-way ANOVA and a post hoc Tukey HSD test. Fractured surfaces were observed under a stereomicroscope at ×20 magnification. The fractured surfaces of the specimens were observed and evaluated under a SEM. RESULTS. Means of microtensile bond strength values (MPa) and standard deviations in the groups were as follows: G1: 9.70±0.81; G2: 12.62±1.80; G3: 16.60±1.93; and G4: 21.24±1.95. G4 and G1 had the highest and the lowest bond strength values, respectively. A greater bond strength value was seen in G3 compared to G2. There were significant differences between all the groups (P<.001). All the failures were of the adhesive mode. CONCLUSION. Application of antioxidant agents may increase microtensile bond strength between fiber posts treated with hydrogen peroxide and composite cores. Acetone increased bond strength more than ascorbic acid and ethanol.

Continuous biosorption of U(VI) and Fe(II) using Cystoseira indica biomass packed bed column: Breakthrough curves studies in single, binary and multi-component systems

Ali Reza Keshtkar,Ali Talebian,Mohammad Ali Moosavian 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.7

Ca-pretreated Cystoseira indica algae was used as a biosorbent for the biosorption of U(VI) and Fe(II) ions in single, binary and multi-component systems by using a packed bed column. Experiments were conducted to study the effect of important design parameters such as bed height and flow rate. FTIR and XRF analyses and pH and Ca2+ ion concentration recordings showed that the biosorption of U(VI) and Fe(II) proceeded through ion-exchange mechanism. BDST, Thomas and Modified dose-response models were used for predicting breakthrough curves and for estimations of the parameters necessary for the design of a large-scale packed bed column.

Spent Wheat Straw Compost of Agaricus bisporus Mushroom as Ruminant Feed

Fazaeli, H.,Masoodi, A.R. Talebian Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2006 Animal Bioscience Vol.19 No.6

Spent compost wheat straw is an available by-product from edible mushroom production, which constitutes a potential pollutant and is cost effective for disposal. This study was conducted to determine the nutritive value as ruminant feed of spent wheat straw compost from Agaricus bisporus mushroom production. The compost was provided from a mushroom farm, the casing soil was removed from the whole compost, and then it was sun dried and sampled for chemical analysis. An experiment was conducted, in which four wheat straw-based diets comprising control (I), 10% spent straw (II), 20% spent straw (III) and 30% spent straw (IV) were tested in a cross-over design using 8 sheep. Dry matter intake (DMI) was 74.0, 73.8, 70.2 and 57.1 and organic matter intake (OMI) was 62.7, 63.4, 58.0 and 44.4 g per kg $BW^{0.75}$ for diets I, II, III and IV, respectively, which, were significantly (p<0.05) lower for diet IV. Digestible OMI was respectively 33.1, 32.6, 30.6 and, 20.2 g per kg $BW^{0.75}$ on the four diets which were significantly (p<0.05) different between the treatments. Inclusion of spent compost straw up to 20% of the diet did not affect the digestibility of DM, OM, CF, ADF and NDF, but the diet containing 30% compost straw had statistically (p<0.05) lower digestibilities. Nitrogen balance was also significantly (p<0.05) different between the treatments.
