카자흐스탄의 국가정체성은 정치적, 사회적, 문화적 측면에서 연구되어 온 지속적인 문제이다. 음악 또는 뮤직비디오와 같은 문화콘텐츠는 사회 규범, 국가 정체성, 국가 건설을 재구성하는 중대한 역할을 수행한다. 본 연구는 지난 10년 간 다양한 예술가와 장르의 뮤직 비디오 7개를 통해 국가적, 민족적 정체성이 어떤 모티브로 활용되었는지를 분석한다. 카자흐스탄 스텝과 전통 의상의 민족적 유목민 이미지로부터 1990년대 포스트 소비에트 시대의 구소련을 향한 향수에 이르기까지 본 연구는 국가 정체성 묘사에 있어 복고적 노스탤지어에서 성찰적 노스탤지어로 변화되었음을 주장한다. 따라서 현재 카자흐스탄 대중음악의 모티브 및 트렌드를 연구하고 분석함으로써 카자흐스탄 국가정체성과 민족정체성을 더 잘 이해할 수 있게 될 것이다. 이는 오늘날 글로벌화된 세계에서 카자흐스탄의 역할 발전에 기여하는 것까지 확장될 수 있을 것이다. Kazakhstan’s national identity is an ongoing question that has been researched through political, social, and cultural lenses. Cultural contents such as music and music videos play a significant role in re-shaping social norms, national identity, and nation-building. This research analyzes different national and ethnic identity motives through the prism of seven music videos of various artists and genres in the last decade. From ethnic nomadic images of the Kazakh steppe and traditional costumes to post-Soviet nostalgia in the 90s, this research argues that there has been a shift from restorative to reflective nostalgia in the national identity portrayal. Therefore, by studying and analyzing current motives and trends in Kazakhstani popular music, we can come one step closer to understanding Kazakh and Kazakhstani identity. On a bigger scale, this will contribute to developing Kazakhstan’s role in today’s globalized world.
