<P>Sodium (Na) metal anodes with stable electrochemical cycling have attracted widespread attention because of their highest specific capacity and lowest potential among anode materials for Na batteries. The main challenges associated with Na metal anodes are dendritic formation and the low density of deposited Na during electrochemical plating. Here, we demonstrate a fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC)-based electrolyte with 1 M sodium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (NaFSI) salt for the stable and dense deposition of the Na metal during electrochemical cycling. The novel electrolyte combination developed here circumvents the dendritic Na deposition that is one of the primary concerns for battery safety and constructs the uniform ionic interlayer achieving highly reversible Na plating/stripping reactions. The FEC-NaFSI constructs the mechanically strong and ion-permeable interlayer containing NaF and ionic compounds such as Na2CO3 and sodium alkylcarbonates.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Highly selective colorimetric detection of Zn(II) ions using label-free silver nanoparticles
Lee, Sujin,Nam, Yun-Sik,Lee, Ho-Jin,Lee, Yeonhee,Lee, Kang-Bong Elsevier 2016 Sensors and actuators. B Chemical Vol.237 No.-
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A simple and facile colorimetric method for the detection of zinc ions (Zn2+) using label-free silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) has been developed. Zn2+ ions induced the aggregation of label-free AgNPs in solution, resulting in a color change from yellow to forest green, which was accompanied by the appearance of a new surface plasmon absorption band at 635nm. The sensitivity of label-free AgNPs towards other metal ions was negligible, with the exception of Fe3+, which caused a modest interference. The binding site and sensing mechanism for Zn2+ ions in label-free AgNPs were characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The aggregation of AgNPs in the presence of Zn2+ ions was inhibited by polyvinyl alcohol, which formed a shell on the surface of AgNPs. Furthermore, Zn2+ ions coordinated with BH4 − on AgNPs through a triangular sixdentate binding structure, thus inducing aggregation of AgNPs in solution.</P> <P>The sensor conditions were optimized with 6.0μM of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (NaDDBS) and 0.23mM AgNPs at pH 6. The absorption ratios (A635/A390) of the label-free AgNPs solution exhibited a linear correlation with Zn2+ ion concentration within the range of 0.0−7.6×10−6 molL−1, with a limit of detection of 0.36×10−6 molL−1. This cost-effective sensing system allows rapid and facile determination of Zn2+ ions in various types of biological, mineral supplement, and environmental samples.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A facile silver nanoparticle sensor for the visual detection of Zn2+ ion. </LI> <LI> A colorimetric Zn2+ ion sensor using label-free silver nanoparticle. </LI> <LI> This sensor exhibits excellent selectivity for Zn2+ ion over other metal ions. </LI> <LI> This simple sensor can detect ∼0.36×10−6 molL−1 concentration of Zn2+ ion within 15min. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

In this paper, for the application of ultrasonic cleaners for cleaning dentures and transparent braces, Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Ni1/3 Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 [PMN-PNN-PZT] system ceramics were manufactured and their dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. Overall the best properties suitable for the device applications such as ultrasonic cleaner were obtained from the ceramics sintered at 920℃: bulk density of 7.8 g/㎤, the dielectric constant (εr) of 1,689, piezoelectric charge constant (d33) of 433 pC/N, planar electromechanical coupling factor (kp) of 0.64, mechanical quality factor (Qm) of 835, S11E of 13.37 (10-12 N/㎡), and Curie temperature of 315℃ By using the physical properties of this composition, the ultrasonic cleaner was designed and simulated using the commercial ATILA software. For the three-layered ceramics with the dimension of 25 mm × 25 mm × 2.5mm, an excellent displacement of 8.998 ×10-3 m) and the sound pressure of 147.68 dB were recorded.
ARE THE FAINT STRUCTURES AHEAD OF SOLAR CORONAL MASS EJECTIONS REAL SIGNATURES OF DRIVEN SHOCKS?
Lee, Jae-Ok,Moon, Y.-J.,Lee, Jin-Yi,Lee, Kyoung-Sun,Kim, Sujin,Lee, Kangjin IOP Publishing 2014 ASTROPHYSICAL JOURNAL LETTERS - Vol.796 No.1
<P>Recently, several studies have assumed that the faint structures ahead of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are caused by CME-driven shocks. In this study, we have conducted a statistical investigation to determine whether or not the appearance of such faint structures depends on CME speeds. For this purpose, we use 127 Solar and Heliospheric Observatory/Large Angle Spectroscopic COronagraph (LASCO) front-side halo (partial and full) CMEs near the limb from 1997 to 2011. We classify these CMEs into two groups by visual inspection of CMEs in the LASCO-C2 field of view: Group 1 has the faint structure ahead of a CME and Group 2 does not have such a structure. We find the following results. (1) Eighty-seven CMEs belong to Group 1 and 40 CMEs belong to Group 2. (2) Group 1 events have much higher speeds (average = 1230 km s(-1) and median = 1199 km s(-1)) than Group 2 events (average = 598 km s(-1) and median = 518 km s(-1)). (3) The fraction of CMEs with faint structures strongly depends on CME speeds (V): 0.93 (50/54) for fast CMEs with V >= 1000 km s(-1), 0.65 (34/52) for intermediate CMEs with 500 km s(-1) <= V < 1000 km s(-1), and 0.14 (3/21) for slow CMEs with V < 500 km s(-1). We also find that the fraction of CMEs with deca-hecto metric type II radio bursts is consistent with the above tendency. Our results indicate that the observed faint structures ahead of fast CMEs are most likely an enhanced density manifestation of CME-driven shocks.</P>
CNBP acts as a key transcriptional regulator of sustained expression of interleukin-6

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The transcription of inflammatory genes is an essential step in host defense activation. Here, we show that cellular nucleic acid-binding protein (CNBP) acts as a transcription regulator that is required for activating the innate immune response. We identified specific CNBP-binding motifs present in the promoter region of sustained inflammatory cytokines, thus, directly inducing the expression of target genes. In particular, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced <I>cnbp</I> expression through an NF-κB-dependent manner and a positive autoregulatory mechanism, which enables prolonged <I>il-6</I> gene expression. This event depends strictly on LPS-induced CNBP nuclear translocation through phosphorylation-mediated dimerization. Consequently, <I>cnbp</I>-depleted zebrafish are highly susceptible to <I>Shigella flexneri</I> infection <I>in vivo</I>. Collectively, these observations identify CNBP as a key transcriptional regulator required for activating and maintaining the immune response.</P>

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the predictors of late school-age children’s health behaviors in children and their mothers’ health beliefs, children’s self-esteem, and social support. Methods: A descriptive correlational study was conducted with 152 late school-age children from the 4th to 6th grades and their mothers in Korea. Data were collected from February 19 to March 5, 2020. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple linear regression. Results: The average score for health behaviors was 3.35 out of 4.00. The highest subscale of health behavior was mental health, whereas the lowest was eating habits. After adjusting for the influences of the general characteristics of children and their mothers, children’s perceived benefits (β=.17, p=.005), perceived barriers (β=-.20, p=.001), self-efficacy (β=.19, p=.005), and mothers’ perceived severity (β=.18, p=.001) were significant predictors of health behaviors among late school-age children, accounting for 24.0% of the variance (R2 change=.24, F=11.59, p<.001). The total explanatory power of the final regression model was 72.0% (adjusted R2=.72, F=24.98, p<.001). Conclusion: Children’s health beliefs were more important than mothers’ health beliefs in explaining the health behaviors of late school-age children. Nursing interventions should focus on perceived barriers, self-efficacy, and perceived benefits to improve health behaviors of late school-age children.
