      • User Behavior Analysis for Visual Music Notation

        Music representation is one of the major concerns in the field of content based music retrieval. For efficient retrieval of music the user’s request needs to be represented in such a way that it is both convenient to use and flexible to express his demand. There are diverse methods of representing users music requests used for retrieval purposes. Visual music representation is an approach to describe users’ music requests graphically. This paper presents user behavior analysis for visual representation of music. The results are based on a survey carried out using different genres of music samples with different complexity and length. The survey was conducted upon users with different music perception levels classified into two groups. The experiment shows that music can be effectively expressed as a series of visual patterns and can be used to describe user request for retrieval of music data.

        Electro-optic and dielectric behavior of a FLC material having doped with a non-mesogenic polar molecules

        Liquid crystal mixtures of non-mesogenic polar molecule with a commercial ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) mixture were prepared. Two mixtures were prepared by mixing 0.5% (w/w) and 1% (w/w) of polar molecules with commercial FLC mixture. Comprehensive studies of dielectric and electro-optic properties of the commercial FLC mixture and the polar molecules doped FLC mixtures have been made as a function of temperatures. Our studies reveal a higher tilt angle in lower concentration (0.5%) mixture but in case of 1% mixture tilt angle is decreased in comparison to 0.5% mixture. The spontaneous polarization of the commercial FLC mixture and other two mixtures is almost equal in magnitude at all temperatures. At the lower temperature region of SmC* phase, Goldstone mode (GM) dielectric strength of the commercial FLC mixture and low concentration (0.5%) mixture is found almost equal but it is slightly higher in case of high concentration (1%) mixture. With the increase of temperature GM dielectric strength of both the doped mixtures rapidly converges at different temperatures which are much lower than the temperature of transition (TC) from SmC* – SmA phase.         Irreversible phase and anchoring transitions of chiral azodye-doped nematic liquid crystal triggered by photostimulation

        Reported herein are the simultaneous phase and anchoring transitions of the chiral azodye-doped liquid crystal (LC) mixture. The transitions are influenced by photostimulation and are stable against light and thermal treatments. The photochromic trans state of the azobenzene molecule used in the study is mesogenic with a chiral nature. The photoinstigated cis form of the molecule has a much-enhanced dipole moment with a broken chromophore symmetry. Due to the high dipole–dipole interaction, the cis-state molecules stack together and form nano-sized aggregates. Subsequently, the cis aggregates get phase-separated, resulting in the chiral- to achiral-phase transition of the host LC. The phase-separated cis aggregates diffuse to the interface between indium-tin-oxide and LC and modify the surface, causing planar to homeotropic anchoring transition of the host LC. The stability and irreversibility of the transition, and the fact that there is no need for pre-treatments for LC alignment, provide a fascinating opportunity for LC device applications.

        Gender and Tobacco Consumption in India

        Debates around the production and consumption of tobacco have attempted to balance the adverse ecological and health impact of tobacco cultivation with its considerable potential to generate employment, income, and foreign exchange. Over the last decade, opinion in favor of reducing consumption has gained strength. This paper briefly reviews the origins and spread of the habit from the Americas to Europe and Asia, and contemporary debates for and against tobacco use. Against this context, the situation regarding tobacco use in India is described using gender disaggregated data from recent surveys conducted by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) and the National Sample Survey (NSS). The data brings out regional disparities and differences between male and female consumption patterns. It is suggested that some conventional wisdom regarding tobacco consumption can be questioned. For example, the highest levels of prevalence are not among the urban and affluent, but among the very poor. Women and children are the new focus of tobacco companies. In India the most interesting emerging trend in consumption is the development of new smokeless tobacco products, such as gutka, which is widely consumed by women. The implications are that tobacco policy has to be multi-faceted; and that health research and tobacco control policy need to clearly evaluate the health effects of new products.

        Obstacle Avoidance Method for UAVs using Polar Grid

        This paper proposes an obstacle avoidance method using a depth polar grid. Depth information is a crucial factor for determining the safe path for col ision-fre navigation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as it can perceive the distance to the obstacles ef ectively. However, the existing depth-camera-based approaches for obstacle avoidance require computational y expensive path planning algorithms. We propose a simple navigation method using the polar-grid of the depth information obtained from the camera with nar ow field-of-view(FOV). The ef ectivenes of the approach was validated by a series of experiments using software-in-the-loop simulation in a realistic outdoor environment. The experimental results show that the proposed approach suc es ful y avoids obstacles using a single depth camera with limited FOV

        Design and Implementation of a CAN Data Analysis Test Bench based on Raspberry Pi

        With the development of Cyber-Physical Systems(CPS), several technologies such as automation control, automotive and intelligent house systems have been developed. To enable communication among various components of such systems, several wired and wireless communication protocols are used. The Controller Area Network(CAN) is one of such wired communication protocols that is popularly used for communication in automobiles and other machinery in the industry. In this paper, we designed and implemented a response time analysis system for CAN communication. The reliable data transfer among various electronic components in a significant time is crucial for the smooth operation of an electric vehicle. Therefore, this system is designed to conveniently analyze the response time of various electronic components of a CAN enabled system. The priority for transmission of the messages in the CAN bus is determined by the message identifier. As the number of nodes increases the transmission of low priority messages is delayed due to the existence of higher priority messages on the bus. We used Raspberry Pi3 and PiCAN2 board to simulate the data transfer for studying the comparative delay in low priority nodes.

      • Oscillator construction of spectra of pp-wave superalgebras in eleven dimensions

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>After reviewing the oscillator realization of the symmetry superalgebra of the BMN matrix model on its maximally supersymmetric plane-wave background and the construction of its zero-mode spectrum, we study a large number of non-maximally supersymmetric pp-wave algebras in eleven dimensions which are obtained by various restrictions from the maximally supersymmetric case (BMN model). We also show how to obtain their zero-mode spectra, which we explicitly construct in some chosen examples. Except for some ‘exotic’ or degenerate special cases, we believe our study covers all possible interesting pp-wave superalgebras of this kind in eleven dimensions.</P>

        A Fall Detection Technique using Features from Multiple Sliding Windows

        In recent years, falls among elderly people have gained serious attention as a major cause of injuries. Falls often lead to fatal consequences due to lack of prompt response and rescue. Therefore, a more accurate fall detection system and an effective feature extraction technique are required to prevent and reduce the risk of such incidents. In this paper, we proposed an efficient feature extraction technique based on multiple sliding windows and validated it through a series of experiments using supervised learning algorithms. The experiments were conducted using the public datasets obtained from tri-axial accelerometers. The results depicted that extraction of the feature from adjacent sliding windows led to high accuracy in supervised machine learning-based fall detection. Also, the experiments conducted in this study suggested that the best accuracy can be achieved by keeping the window size as small as 2 seconds. With the kNN classifier and dataset from wearable sensors, the experiments achieved accuracy rates of 94%.
