The article compares economic and environmental performance of Taipei and Almaty from the point of view of "green" economy, which is able to act as a key tool to ensure sustainable development of the region. As the comparison of the parameters of ecological and economic development of the Taipei and Almaty cities shows, they are similar in population size, but demonstrate completely different trends of sustainable development. Economic performance of the Taipei city is achieved with a decrease in the consumption of natural resources and the production of pollution, while the situation in Almaty is the opposite. Almaty maintains a high level of air pollution due to the use of coal in electricity production, as well as increased traffic and density of construction, including the southern part of the city, which is a zone for the transit of mountain air flows. The article discusses the activities jointly conducted by the Government of Taiwan and non-governmental organizations on environmental issues, as well as environmental NGOs, which resulted in significant improvements in the environmental field. Measures to stimulate the development and implementation of environmental innovations applied in the field of sustainable development in the city of Taipei can be adapted for the city of Almaty, where the environmental situation deteriorates year by year.
Central Asia:Development under Conditions of Globalization
Stanislav Zhukov 연세대학교 동서문제연구원 2001 Global economic review Vol.30 No.2
The entire post-Soviet era is exposed to the decisive impact of several powerful processes. These include the construction of new states, the formation of national economies, the transition from a command-mobilization economy to a market-driven one, and globalization which is the most important. It would be no exaggeration to say that, to a significant extent, globalization determines the processes of state-building and market transformation.

Palladium-bismuth nanoparticles were supported into strongly basic anion-exchange resin of gel-typeand tested as catalysts for the selective oxidation of glycerol with molecular oxygen at atmosphericpressure. Detailed study of the precursors preparation and reduction were undertaken. The catalyst3%Pd-1%Bi where the bismuth was deposited on the palladium particles (3.4 nm) exhibited at 95%glycerol conversion more than 63% yield toward glyceric acid and tartronic acid after 3 h of reaction. Thecatalyst maintains practically similar catalytic performance as in fresh state for at least five consecutivecatalytic cycles without extra catalyst treatment and reactivation.

Steel suspension members subjected to tension and bending offer an economical and efficient alternative for many structural problems. This paper is concerned with the elastic and elastic-plastic behaviour of suspension members with bending stiffness subjected to vertical point and uniformly distributed loads. An experimental study is described which focuses on the response of three suspension members with various Tshaped steel hot rolled sections and geometric configurations. The tests enable direct assessment of the influence of a key parameter such as the sag-to-span ratio on the response of suspension members. Detailed nonlinear finite-element models are generated to provide a tool for theoretical analyses and to facilitate further understanding of the behaviour. Results demonstrate that experimentally obtained responses can generally be closely predicted numerically because there are relatively good agreements between finite element and tests results. The results and observations of subsequent numerical parametric studies offer an insight into the key factors that govern the behaviour of suspension members with bending stiffness in the elastic-plastic range.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is considered a promising technology for NiTi intermetallic components production. However, different defects such as near-surface porosity inherent to the process are limiting the standardization and widespread of the technology due to the deterioration of the mechanical properties. In this work, a comprehensive study was implemented to reduce the near-surface porosity by the laser polishing of additively manufactured samples from pre-alloyed NiTi powder by LPBF. Different laser polishing process conditions were employed for the treatment of the near-surface region. Results have shown that the most effective treatment aimed at porosity healing occurs at a laser power of 540 W, a scanning speed of 25 mm/s, a hatch spacing of 200 μm, and a laser spot of 500 μm. The phase identification and martensite-austenite transformation temperatures characterization were carried out before and after the laser polishing of the NiTi samples; the influence of the laser polishing on the functional properties of the material was demonstrated. It was shown that the application of required linear energy density for successful healing of the near-surface porosity leads to the local solutionizing effect. Additionally, electrochemical studies were carried out in Hank's solution and demonstrated that the corrosion resistance was improved after laser polishing.
