      • Plastic Optical Fiber Refractive Index Sensor Employing an In-Line Submillimeter Hole

        <P>An in-line submillimeter hole fabricated by micro-drilling plastic optical fiber (POF) directly has been proposed as a compact refractive index sensor. Since the hole behaves as a concave lens if it is filled with a liquid having lower refractive index than that of the fiber core, transmittance increases in proportion to the refractive index. Analysis of the sensor transmittance has been performed using a simple ray optics model. Through immersing a 1.5-mm POF with a 0.35-mm-radius hole into various liquids, transmittance of the sensor has been measured at 670 nm. It has been shown that the experimental and analytical results are in excellent agreement.</P>

      • Optical true time-delay feeder for phased array antennas using fiber Bragg gratings and metal-film reflectors

        <P>A novel optical true time-delay (TTD) feeder for phased-array antennas incorporating a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) prism and optical fibers with metal film deposited on their cleaved ends is proposed. By arranging a metal-film reflector at one end of the fiber delay line with FBGs written at different locations, one FBG for every fiber delay line can be saved (compared to FBG-only TTD feeders) and flexibility of wavelength selection is also provided due to the uniform reflectance of the metal film in a broad wavelength range. A TTD feeder with two fiber delay lines for 10-GHz linear phased-array antennas is built to steer a beam into three directions at 0° and ±30°. The experimental results of the time delays agree well with those calculated at all the steering angles. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.         바람소리 저감을 위한 선루프 디플렉터 주위의 유동에 관한 연구

        The noise from the sunroof can be divided into the low frequency buffeting noise and the high frequency turbulence noise generated when a car runs at the high driving speed. The wind deflector suppresses the buffeting noise generation by accelerating the vortex shedding from the front edge of sunroof opening, and guides the flow direction so that air can pass smoothly over the sunroof opening. To reduce the buffeting noise and the high frequency noise, it is very important to locate a deflector in a proper position depending on the driving speed and the sunroof opening width. The deflector’s sectional shape also plays an important role in efficiently reducing the buffeting and high frequency noise. In this paper, we determined the optimum deflector’s sectional shape and examined the flow characteristics behind a sunroof deflector through CFD analysis with changing the deflector height, the driving speed and the sunroof opening width. It is found that the deflector needs to be located in the higher location to control the buffeting noise by shedding the higher frequency vortices to accelerating vortices from the sunroof front edge. The deflector may act as a new noise source at the high driving speed, then it is desirable to put the deflector at the proper height to reduce the flow fluctuations and the noise generation. We also made a road test to verify CFD analysis results in this study.

        OBS 네트워크의 OAM 기본 체제

        OBS (Optical Burst Switching) 네트워크에 관한 연구가 최근 활발히 진행되고 있으나 OBS 네트워크 운용에 필수적인 OAM (Operation md Maintenance)에 대한 연구는 아직 다루어지고 있지 않다. 본 논문에서는 다섯가지 OBS 기능들, 즉 BT (Burst Termination), BTX (Burst Transmission), BSW (Burst Switching), RSC(Routing and Switching Control), 그리고 PAR (Protection and Restoration)을 정의하였고, 이 기능적 모델에 근거하여 네트워크 운용 요구 조건들을 만족시키기 위한 OAM 아키텍처를 설계하였다. 또한, OAM 수행에 필요한 OAM 동작들의 정의와 OAM이 가능한 ingress 에지, 코어, egress 에지 노드들의 구조, 그리고 OAM 정보 및 통신 모델과 프로토콜 등과 같은 OAM 구현을 위한 기본 체제를 제안하였다. 그리고, 제안된 OAM 아키텍처를 이용하여 OBS 네트워크에서 발생 가능한 여러 가지 장애들에 대한 OAM을 정리하였다. Operation and maintenance (OAM) in optical burst switching (OBS) networks has not yet been addressed even though OBS has been gaining research interest in recent years. In this paper, we defined five OBS functions such as Burst Termination (BT), Burst Transmission (BTX), Burst Switching (BSW), Routing and Switching Control (RSC), and Protection and Restoration (PAR). A functional model for OBS networks and an OAM architecture are designed to meet the operational requirements. We present the first framework to realize OAM in OBS networks, including OAM activities, OAM-capable OBS nodes such as ingress edge, core, and egress edge nodes, OAM information and communication models and protocols. A number of examples of possible network failures are pointed out and the corresponding reactions to these using the proposed OAM architecture are presented.

        연구보문 : 자연과학 ; 비타민 A 강화벼의 환경위해성 평가: 비타민 A 강화벼가 미꾸리(Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) 및 잉어(Cyprinus carpio)에 미치는 영향

        비타민A 강화벼와 ‘낙동’의 미꾸리(Misgurnus anguillicaudatus)와 잉어(Cyprinus carpio)에 대한 급성독성시험을 실시한 결과 48시간 및 96시간-LC50은 1,000 mg/L이상으로 나타났다. 48시간 및 96시간 무영향농도(NOEC)는 1,000 mg/L이었다. 급성독성 시험기간 중 비타민A 강화벼와 낙동벼간의 pH, DO, 수온, 체중 및 전장에 대한 유의적인 결과는 나타나지 않았다. The carotenoid-biofortified (PAC) rice was developed and confirmed biosynthesis of specific carotenoids (zeaxanthin, a-carotene and β-carotene) in rice endosperm. Also, PAC rice contained herbicide resistance selectable marker by introducing the phosphinothricin acetyltransferase (PAT) gene from the Streptomyces hygroscopicus. For biosafety assessment, the PAC rice expressing the herbicide resistant gene PAT and carotenoid biosynthesis gene PSY/CrtI was tested for the effects on survival of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus and Cyprinus carpio, commonly used as a model organism in ecotoxicological studies. M. anguillicaudatus and C. carpio fed 100% ground rice of suspension, PAC or non-GM counterpart rice (Nakdong). Gene expression of PAC rice was confirmed to have the PAT by the southern blot and western blot analysis. Feeding test showed that no significant differences in cumulative immobility and abnormal response of M. anguillicaudatus and C. carpio fed on between PAC rice and non-GM counterpart rice. The 96hr-LC50 values showed no difference between PAC rice(>1,000mg/L) and non-GM rice(>1,000 mg/L). We concluded that there was no significant difference in toxicity for non-target organisms(M. anguillicaudatus and C. carpio) between PAC rice and non-GM counterparts.

        In Line Plastic-Optical-Fiber Temperature Sensor

        In this paper, we present an in line plastic-optical-fiber (POF) temperature sensor based on intensity modulation. The in line POF temperature sensor is composed of a POF, including an in-fiber micro hole filled with reversible thermochromic material, the transmittance of which depends on temperature. The reversible thermochromic material was cobalt chloride/polyvinyl butyral gel. A cobalt chloride solution of concentration 30.8 mM was formulated using 10% water/90% ethanol (v/v) solution, and gelled by dissolving polyvinyl butyral in this solution. Four types of in line POF sensors, with in line micro holes of four different diameters, were fabricated to measure temperature in the range of 25 to 75 ℃. The output optical power of all of these in line POF temperature sensors was inversely proportional to the temperature; the relation between output power and temperature was approximately linear, and the sensitivity was proportional to the diameter of the in-fiber micro hole. The experimental results indicate that an in line POF sensor can be used effectively for measuring moderate temperatures.

        광 버스트 스위칭 네트워크에서 Look-Ahead 알고리즘을 적용한 그룰 스케줄링의 성능 분석

        본 논문에서는 광 버스트 스위칭 네트워크의 코어 노드에 그룹 스케줄링을 적용한 경우 발생하는 데이터 버스트 처리 지연시간의 감소를 위한 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 이 알고리즘에서는 일차 스케줄링 세션 종료 직후에, 스케줄링 창 내의 모든 빈 공간(void) 정보를 나타내는 표를 생성하기 때문에, 직전 스케줄링에서 예약에 실패한 데이터 버스트들을 다른 채널의 빈 공간에 재할당할 때, 이 표를 활용하여 효과적으로 버스트 처리 시간 지연을 감소시킬 수가 있다. 이 알고리즘이 적용된 그룹 스케줄링 방식과 기존의 그룹 스케줄링 방식을 비교한 결과, 채널 이용률에 있어서는 서로 거의 동일한 성능을 보이나, 버스트 손실 확률과 파장 변환률은 알고리즘을 적용한 그룹 스케줄링 방식이 기존의 그룹 스케줄링 방식보다 약간 우수하였다. 버스트 처리 시간에 있어서는 부하가 약 0.6이하인 영역에서는 기존 그룹 스케줄링 방식이 약간 빠른 반면에, 부하가 0.8이상인 영역에서는 알고리즘을 적용한 방식의 처리 시간이 현저히 짧게 나타났다, 부하 0.9에서 약 1/2.1로 감소하였다. There has been proposed an algorithm to reduce data burst processing delay in group scheduling in core nodes of optical burst switching networks. Since, in this algorithm, look-up tables containing all the void time information in scheduling windows are generated as soon as the primary group scheduling session terminates, it becomes faster to reassign dropped data bursts to proper voids in different data channels by referring to the tables. The group scheduling with this algorithm showed almost the same channel utilization as the one without using the algorithm but performed a little better in both burst loss probability and wavelength conversion rate. On the other hand, per-burst processing time has been reduced dramatically in the load region of higher than 0.8, showing a factor of 2.1 reduction at 0.9.
