This paper presents a four-noded quadrilateral $C^0$ strain plate element for the analysis of thick laminated composite plates. The element formulation is based on: 1) the third-order shear deformation theory; 2) assumed strain element formulation; and 3) interrelated edge displacements and rotations along element boundaries. Unlike the existing displacement-type composite plate elements based on the third-order theory, which rely on the $C^1$-continuity formulation, the present plate element is of $C^0$-continuity, and its element stiffness matrix is evaluated explicitly. Because of the third-order expansion of the in-plane displacements through the thickness, the resulting theory and hence elements do not need shear correction factors. The explicit element stiffness matrix makes the present element more computationally efficient than the composite plate elements using numerical integration for the analysis of thick layered composite plates.
Weak forms of generalized governing equations in theory of elasticity

This paper presents the derivation of the generalized governing equations in theory of elasticity, their weak forms and the some applications in the numerical analysis of structural mechanics. Unlike the differential equations in classical elasticity theory, the generalized equations of the equilibrium and compatibility equations presented here take the form of integral equations, and the generalized equilibrium equations contain the classical differential equations and the boundary conditions in a single equation. By using appropriate test functions, the weak forms of these generalized governing equations can be established. It can be shown that various variational principles in structural analysis are merely the special cases of these weak forms of generalized governing equations in elasticity. The present weak forms of elasticity equations extend greatly the choices of the trial functions for approximate solutions in the numerical analysis of various engineering problems. Therefore, the weak forms of generalized governing equations in elasticity provide a powerful modeling tool in the computational structural mechanics.
Husserl’s Critical Appropriation of Kant’s Transcendental Aesthetics

후설은 자신의 초월론적 현상학이 칸트철학의 가장 심오한 의미를 구현하려는 시도로 정의될 수 있다고 보았다. 칸트의 초월철학과 후설의 초월철학 양쪽 모두 초월론적 주관성 안에서 진정한 객관성이 구성된다는 본질적인 가능성과 선험성에 대한 근본명제를 공유한다. 심지어 후설은 ‘초월론적 감성론’이라는 용어를 직접 칸트의 『순수이성비판』으로부터 차용하였음을 밝힌 바 있다. ‘초월론적 감성론’과 관계있는 이 연구는 첫째, 후설이 초월론적 감성론과 초월론적 분석론 사이의 엄격한 구분을 어떻게 비판하는지를 살펴볼 것이다. 둘째, 이러한 비판적인 조명을 통해서 후설이 칸트의 ‘종합’, 특히 자신의 발생현상학에서 ‘형상적 종합’이라는 용어를 어떻게 재전유하는지를 분석할 것이다. 마지막으로 이 연구는 후설이 칸트 초월론적 감성론의 핵심요소인 시간의 문제를 어떻게 이해하고 있으며, 나아가서 이를 비판적으로 조명하는지 고찰함으로써 초월론적 감성론에 대한 양자간의 입장차가 얼마나 현격한지를 보여주게 될 것이다. 궁극적으로 이 논문은 후설의 초월론적-발생적 감성론과 칸트의 초월론적 감성론이 공유하는 지점과 그들이 분기되는 지점을 살펴보려는 것이다. For Husserl, transcendental phenomenology can be defined as an attempt to realize the deepest sense of Kantian philosophy. Both Kant’s and Husserl’s transcendental philosophy most essentially share their fundamental statement of an apriori and the essential possibility of the constitution of a true objectivity in the transcendental subjectivity. Husserl even employs the term ‘transcendental aesthetics’ directly from Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason. In regard to ‘transcendental aesthetics,’ this study examines first how Husserl criticizes Kantian distinctions between transcendental aesthetic and transcendental analytic. Secondly, it further shows how Husserl reappropriates Kant’s term of synthesis, especially the figurative synthesis in his genetic phenomenology. Lastly, it analyzes Husserl’s understanding of Kant’s time and his criticism of it.
Use of NIR Technique for Determination of Total Phosphorus and Available Phosphorus in Korean Soils

NIR spectroscopy is newly developed tools determining the soil properties. Phosphorus in soil is one of the most difficult and time consuming elements to assess for plant needs. The calibration coefficient(R) of NIR method for total phosphorus by HClO4 and Na2CO3 P was 0.91 and 0.88, and available phosphorus by Lancaster and Bray 1. extractant was 0.88 and 0.82. According to Williams guidelines for the calibration coefficient, NIR method could also be used estimating total and available phosphorus if one performed optimal calibration for predicting soil properties. Applicability of NIR spectra, if improved accuracy, may allow for the use of soil testing.
A Modified Expansion-Contraction Method for Mobile Object Tracking in Video Surveillance

Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in the fields of video surveillance and mobile object tracking. This paper proposes a mobile object tracking algorithm. First, several parameters such as object window, object area, and expansion-contraction (E-C) parameter are defined. Then, a modified E-C algorithm for multiple-object tracking is presented. The proposed algorithm tracks moving objects by expansion and contraction of the object window. In addition, it includes methods for updating the background image and avoiding occlusion of the target image. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified experimentally. For example, the first scenario traces the path of two people walking in opposite directions in a hallway, whereas the second one is conducted to track three people in a group of four walkers.
