      • Significance of Rumex Vesicarius as Anticancer Remedy Against Hepatocellular Carcinoma: a Proposal-Based on Experimental Animal Studies

Shahat, Abdelaaty A,Alsaid, Mansour S,Kotob, Soheir E,Ahmed, Hanaa H Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.10

Rumex vesicarius is an edible herb distributed in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The whole plant has significant value in folk medicine and it has been used to alleviate several diseases. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the major primary malignant tumor of the liver, is one of the most life-threatening human cancers. The goal of the current study was to explore the potent role of Rumex vesicarius extract against HCC induced in rats. Thirty adult male albino rats were divided into 3 groups: (I): Healthy animals received orally 0.9 % normal saline and served as negative control group, (II): HCC group in which rats were orally administered N-nitrosodiethylamine NDEA, (III): HCC group treated orally with R. vesicarius extract in a dose of 400 mg/kg b.wt daily for two months. ALT and AST, ALP and ${\gamma}$-GT activities were estimated. CEA, AFP, AFU, GPC-3, Gp-73 and VEGF levels were quantified. Histopathological examination of liver tissue sections was also carried out. The results of the current study showed that the treatment of the HCC group with R. vesicarius extract reversed the significant increase in liver enzymes activity, CEA, AFP, AFU, glypican 3, golgi 73 and VEGF levels in serum as compared to HCC-untreated counterparts. In addition, the favorable impact of R. vesicarius treatment was evidenced by the marked improvement in the histopathological features of the liver of the treated group. In conclusion, the present experimental setting provided evidence for the significance of R. vesicarius as anticancer candidate with a promising anticancer potential against HCC. The powerful hepatoprotective properties, the potent antiangiogenic activity and the effective antiproliferative capacity are responsible for the anticancer effect of this plant.

        Abdelaaty A. Shahat,Khaled A. Abdel-Shafe다,Husseiny A. Husseiny,Magda Claeys,Sandra Apers,Luc Pieters 한국생약학회 2006 Natural Product Sciences Vol.12 No.3

flavonoid glycosides, kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1. 6)-β-D-glucopyranoside orkaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (1), isorhamnetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(16)-β-D-glucopyranoside or isorhamnetin-3-O-rutinoside (2), and quercetin-3-O-β . 2)-β-L-arabinopyranoside 3, the latter one being anew compound, were isolated from the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Carrichtera annua. Massspectrometry and 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy allowed establishing the structure of these compounds.KeywordsCarrichtera anua, Crucifereae (Brasicaceae), flavonol glycosides, NMR

Camellia sinesis leaves extract ameliorates high fat diet-induced nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in rats: analysis of potential mechanisms

Mohamed Safaa H.,Shahat Abdelaaty A.,Mohamed Mohamed Ragaa,Khalil Wagdy K. B.,Salem Ahmed M.,Farrag Abdel Razik H.,Ahmed Hanaa Hamdy 한국약제학회 2021 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.51 No.2

Purpose Our research aims to address and determine the effect of Camellia sinensis extract in the management of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in rats. Methods Forty adult female albino rats were divided into four groups. Group 1 (G1) served as the control group, while the other three groups received high-fat diet for 32 weeks to induce NASH and then were later assigned to the following groups: (G2) NASH-afflicted group which was left untreated, (G3) NASH-afflicted group treated with Camellia sinensis extract in a dose of 400 mg/kg, and (G4) NASH-afflicted group treated with Camellia sinensis extract in a dose of 200 mg/kg. Results Significant elevation in serum alanine aminotransferase, albumin, bilirubin (total and direct), cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, triglycerides, leptin, Cox-2, and CD40 values was recorded. Moreover, overexpression of hepatic tumor necrosis factor alpha and hepatocyte growth factor genes were recorded, whereas blood platelet count and serum high density lipoprotein concentration revealed significant depletion, which was paralleled by significant downregulation of hepatic adiponectin gene expression level in NASH group versus the control group. On the opposite side, treatment of NASH groups with two different doses of Camellia sinensis extract reversed the values of the measured biochemical parameters and the targeted gene expression levels when compared with the NASH group. Optical micrograph of liver tissue sections of rats treated with Camellia sinensis extract showed the observed improvement in the studied biochemical and genetic markers. Conclusion This study provides a clear evidence for the promising therapeutic potential of Camellia sinensis extract against NASH. This could be ascribed to its hepatoprotective activity, hypolipidemic effect, and anti-inflammatory potency.

Phytochemical and Biological Studies on Verbascum sinaiticum Growing in Egypt

        Samia M. Mahmoud,Nahla S. Abdel-Azim,Abdelaaty A. Shahat,Shams I. Ismail,Faiza M. Hammouda 한국생약학회 2007 Natural Product Sciences Vol.13 No.3

aerial parts of Verbascum sinaiticum Benth. (Scrophulariaceae) yielded two iridoids that wereidenified as ajugol 3 and aucubin 4. Also, investigation of the flavonoid constituents revealed the isolation andidentification of luteolin 1 and chrysoeriol-7-glucoside 2. All the isolated compounds were identifid by spectrosco-picmethods (UV, MS, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR) and in comparison with the literature data. Both alcohol andmethylene chloride/methanol extracts (1 : 1) exhibited a hepatoprotective effect by CCl4challenge test. KeywordsFlavonoids, Hepatoprotection, Iridoides, Verbascum sinaiticum
