Linum olympicum Boiss. (Linaceae) is an endemic species to Turkey, and has both medicinal and ornamental properties. In this study, we investigated the effects of GA3 and cold stratification (1 or 4 months) on the germination and mean germination time in relation to breaking dormancy in this species under darkness (20 °C) and light (20/10 °C, 12/12 h) conditions. Seeds were collected from specimens that spread on limestone or granite screes, ledges of rocky or turfy slopes, and hilltops of the alpine belt from Uludağ Mt. (Bursa, Turkey, 2200–2300 m). We show that a combination of hormone and cold stratification treatments promoted seed germination under darkness and light conditions. Non-stratified seeds germinated to 73% following 1000 mg L−1 GA3 treatment and also it was 83% after 1 month cold stratification. After 4 months of cold stratification treatment, 10% and 53.3% of seeds successfully germinated after incubation in light and dark conditions, respectively. Hormone and cold stratification treatments also reduced mean germination time. Our results revealed that seeds of L. olympicum have physiological dormancy and require prolonged time for cold stratification and darkness for germination, rather than responding to the photoperiod. Germination requirements of L. olympicum have not been studied previously, and the data obtained could be used for the ex situ protection of this alpine species.

In this work, we introduce a new subclass of analytic functions of complex order involving the $\left( p,q\right) $-derivative operator defined in the open unit disc. For this class, several Fekete-Szeg\"{o} type coefficient inequalities are derived. We obtain the results of Srivastava \textit{et al.~}\cite{SR} as consequences of the main theorem in this study.

Background: Parafibromin is a recently defined tumor suppressor gene. The aim of our study was to determine the relationships of parafibromin expression in urothelial carcinomas (UCs) with prognostic parameters and to evaluate the use of parafibromin as a potential marker of UC. Methods: Parafibromin expression was assessed in 49 UC specimens using immunohistochemistry. The correlations between parafibromin expression and clinical and pathologic parameters were investigated. Results: Of the patients, 42 (85.7%) were male, and the mean age was 69.6 ± 8.2 years (range, 54 to 88 years). Morphologically, the UCs were divided into two groups: papillary (n = 27) and non-papillary (n = 22). There were seven low-grade (14.3%) and 42 high-grade (85.7%) tumors. Parafibromin was negative in 13 tumors (26.5%), partially positive in 19 tumors (38.8%), and positive in 17 tumors (34.7%). Parafibromin expression was more negative in UCs from upper urinary locations (n = 17) and with muscularis propria invasion (n = 28), which was statistically significant (p = .009 and p = .007, respectively). There was no statistically significant relationship between parafibromin expression and gender, age, tumor grade, survival, or disease-free survival. Conclusions: We found that UC cases with parafibromin positivity had less of a tendency to show muscularis propria invasion and were more commonly located in the lower urinary system. These results need to be confirmed with studies based on larger case series.

The combined effect of temperature, agitationspeed, and light on red pigment production by Monascuspurpureus (M. purpureus) Went DSM 1604 using bugdamaged wheat was studied using an artificial neuralnetwork (ANN). Information retrieved from the ANN wasused to determine the optimal operating conditions forpigment production by M. purpureus using bug damagedwheat meal. The developed ANN had R2 values fortraining, validation, and testing data sets of 0.993, 0.961,and 0.944, respectively. According to the model, thehighest pigment production of 1.874 absorbance units at510 nm (A510 nm) would be achieved at 29oC and 150 rpmunder light conditions. The mean value of the experimentalresults obtained under these optimum conditions was1.787±0.072 A510 nm, corresponding to a pigment yield of35.740 A510 nm/g. The study showed that bug damagedwheat can be used as a substrate for red pigment productionby M. purpureus.

In this paper, we introduce a new class R<sup>k</sup><sub>λ</sub> (λ ≥ 1, k is any positive real number) of univalent complex functions, which consists of functions f of the form f(z) = z + ∑<sup>∞</sup><sub>n=2</sub> a<sub>n</sub>z<sup>n</sup> (|z| < 1) satisfying the subordination condition (1 - λ) f (z)/z + λf′ (z) ≺ 1 + τ<sup>2</sup><sub>k</sub>z<sup>2</sup>/1 - kτ<sub>k</sub>z - τ<sup>2</sup><sub>k</sub>z<sup>2</sup>, τk = k - √ k<sup>2</sup> + 4/2, and investigate the Fekete-Szegö problem for the coefficients of f ∈ Rk λ which are connected with k-Fibonacci numbers Fk,n = (k - τ<sub>k</sub>)<sup>n</sup> - τ<sup>n</sup><sub>k</sub>/√k<sup>2</sup> + 4 (n ∈ N ∪ {0}) . We obtain sharp upper bound for the Fekete-Szegö functional |a3 - μa<sup>2</sup><sub>2</sub>| when μ ∈ R. We also generalize our result for μ ∈ C.
CERTAIN PROPERTIES OF A NEW SUBCLASS OF ANALYTIC AND p-VALENTLY CLOSE-TO-CONVEX FUNCTIONS

In the present paper we introduce and investigate an interesting subclass Κ<sup>(k)</sup><sub>s</sub> (γ,p) of analytic and p-valently close-to-convex functions in the open unit disk U. For functions belonging to this class, we derive several properties as the inclusion relationships and distortion theorems. The various results presented here would generalize many known recent results.
Coefficient bounds for $p$-valently close-to-convex functions associated with vertical strip domain

By considering a certain univalent function that maps the unit disk $\mathbb{U}$ onto a strip domain, we introduce new subclasses of analytic and $p$-valent functions and determine the coefficient bounds for functions belonging to these new classes. Relevant connections of some of the results obtained with those in earlier works are also provided.
Coefficient estimates for generalized Libera type bi-close-to-convex functions

In a recent paper, Sakar and Güney introduced a new class of bi-close-to-convex functions and determined the estimates for the general Taylor-Maclaurin coefficients of functions therein. The main purpose of this note is to give a generalization of this class. Also we point out the proof by Sakar and Güney is incorrect and present a correct proof.

Background and Purpose The study aim was to determine the effects of benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) on symptom severity and functional capacity in females with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) based on the findings of physical examinations. Methods One hundred female patients diagnosed with bilateral CTS in electrophysiological testing were included in this study. The participants were evaluated for BJHS using the Brighton 1998 criteria, and divided into two groups: one consisting of 56 CTS patients with BJHS, and the other comprising 44 CTS patients without BJHS. Tinel’s, Phalen’s, and reverse Phalen’s tests were applied to all patients, and the severity and functional capacity of CTS were evaluated using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire. Results Symptom severity and functional capacity varied significantly between the two groups in the right hand (p=0.037 and p=0.039, respectively) and in the left hand (p=0.016 and p=0.029). The hypermobile group yielded more positive results on the right side during Tinel’s, Phalen’s, and reverse Phalen’s tests (p=0.032, p=0.032, and p=0.018, respectively). Conclusions Hypermobility in females exacerbated the symptoms of CTS and led to a further reduction of functional capacity. Therefore, hypermobility should be tested and an intense exercise program should be implemented in BJHS patients, especially in females with CTS.
