A Monitoring System with Ubiquitous Sensors for Passenger Safety in Railway Platform
Sehchan Oh,Gilgong Kim,Hanmin Lee 전력전자학회 2007 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-
In this paper, we propose a passenger monitoring system with ubiquitous detection sensors for railway platform safety. Objectives of the system are to perceive dangerous situation in platform, such as fallen passenger on the track, and to inform central control room and local station employee and train driver about the situation. The proposed system consists of a series of sensors, such as infrared sensors, video and thermal cameras. The information acquisition unit detects and perceives dangerous factor, such as fallen passenger, disastrous fire and so on, in the monitoring area by using multiple vision and location sensors. The central data fusion unit makes more intelligent and meaningful information by using inputted the monitored results from every single camera sensor and infrared sensor for analyzing the situation. The information multicasting service unit provides different clients, such as local station employee, CCR employee and train driver with corresponding alarm message including standard operation procedure with video information about the accident situation in order to deal promptly with emergencies.

Sehchan Oh,Yongki Yoon,Minsoo Kim,Yongkyu Kim 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
Radio based train control system has the effect of increasing a track capacity since it enables the high density train control to be made due to its real-time traceability of train location and the high amount of information transmission, and it has the merit to reduce maintenance costs greatly because it does not use the track circuit. The technical core of automatic train protection (ATP) which is the most vital function in this radio based train control system is to trace the train location on a real-time basis and to secure the safe interval between the preceding train and following tran on the basis of it. This study describes the definition of ATP functions which are being designed in the Korean radio based train control system and the allocation of ATP functions to the onboard and wayside.

Sehchan Oh,Yongki Yoon,Kyunghee Kim,Yongkyu Kim 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
Radio based train control system can perform the high density train control due to its real-time traceability of train location and the high amount of information transmission, and it has the merit to reduce costs for equipment invetment and maintenance costs because it does not use the existing track circuit. However, a separate system which can check the train integrity on a real-time basis is required since it does not use the track circuit. This paper proposes a train integrity monitoring system which can check the real-time train integrity in the radio based train control system. For the safe protection of parted train, it is possible to monitor parted situations of train on a real-time basis by using separate onboard equipment. This paper describes system requirements for the design of proposed TIMS, system configuration and the operation algorithm.

Communication based Train Control(CBTC) system, the latest train control technology, has been widely applied throughout the world, because it has a number of advantages such as improved driving headway, reduction of the maintenance cost and so on. The technical core of CBTC is to ensure the safe space between trains through the real-time train tracking. Korean Radio-based Train Control System(KRTCS) has been developed as a Korean CBTC standard since 2010. KRTCS is comprised of Automatic Train Supervision(ATS), wayside/onboard Automatic Train Protection(ATP), onboard Automatic Train Operation(ATO), Electronic Interlocking(EI) and wayside equipment such as transponder tags, precision stop maker, communication network, etc. In the paper, we present system configuration of KRTCS and design and development scheme of Automatic Train Protection(ATP) communication interface for KRTCS. Communication between each component is performed using the protocol defined in the form of variable messages. Messages are divided into periodic or non-periodic messages. This study describes onboard and wayside ATP functional design and communication message and procedure for each function.

A train coupling/decoupling technology is essential not only for a usual operation for a formation building of the train, but also for an operation with variable formation according to the change in transportation demand within the same line and for an equalization of the allocation interval of the main and branch lines. However, there are problems of long time required and frequent occurrence of accidents due to the human error since the existing train coupling/decoupling operation is completely accomplished by intervention of the operator. Therefore, an automated train coupling/decoupling system is required. This paper presents an ATP (Automatic Train Protection) functional procedure to develop a train control system which enables an automated coupling/decoupling operation of the train.
