Background: Cigarette smokers have their own motivation and justification to smoke. For example, smoking reduces their stress or enhances their pleasure. This study aimed to identify the (a) prevalence of cigarette smokers among undergraduates in Malaysia, (b) gender differences in nicotine dependence among current smokers, (c) differences in psychological problems (depression, anxiety and stress) based on the status of smoking cigarettes (current, former and non-smokers) and (d) extent to which precipitating factors (tension reduction, addiction, automatism, handling, social interaction, pleasure, and stimulation) predict the smoking behavior among current smokers. Materials and Methods: In this study 780 undergraduate students participated from a private university in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor state in Malaysia. The Depression, Stress and Anxiety Scale, Modified Reason for Smoking Scale and Fagerstrom Nicotine Dependence Test were used to measure psychological problems, predictors of smoking behavior and nicotine dependency among current smokers. Results: The results showed that 14.7%(n=106) of the students were smokers. Current smokers exhibited more psychological problems (depression, anxiety and stress) compared to former and non-smokers. Addiction, tension reduction, pleasure and automatism were predictors of smoking behavior among the current smoking students. Step wise regression analysis showed that smoking behavior was highly predicted by nicotine dependency or addiction. Smoking students were motivated to smoke cigarettes as they believed that it reduced their tension and enhance pleasure. Conclusions: Hence, there is a need for health promotion and anti-tobacco prevention as cigarette smokers experience more psychological problems. Nicotine dependency or addition was one of the major causes for smoking behavior among the student population in Malaysia.

This paper propose a new power conditioner topology with intelligent power management controller that integrates multiple renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy and fuel cell energy with battery backup to make best use of their operating characteristics and obtain better reliability than that could be obtained by single renewable energy based power supply. The proposed embedded controller is programmed for maintaining a constant voltage at PCC, maximum power point tracking for solar PV panel and WTG and power flow control by regulating the reference currents of the controller on instantaneous basis based on the power delivered by the sources and load demand. Instantaneous variation in reference currents of the controller enhances the controller response as it accommodates the effect of continuously varying solar insolation and wind speed in the power management. The power conditioner uses a battery bank with embedded controller based online SOC estimation and battery charging system to suitably sink or source the input power based on the load demand. The simulation results of the proposed power management system for a standalone solar/WTG/ fuel cell fed hybrid power supply with real time solar radiation and wind velocity data collected from solar centre, KEC for a sporadically varying load demand is presented in this paper and the results are encouraging in reliability and stability perspective.

Variational formulism, within the frame work of effective mass approximation, is applied to obtain the exciton binding energy. The second order harmonic generation and the optical gain are carried out using compact density method. The strain effects are included with the confinement potential in the Hamiltonian. The energy difference of the ground and the first excited state is found in the presence of magnetic and electric fields taking into the consideration of spatial confinement effect. The result shows that the optical properties are more influenced taking into account the effects of geometrical confinement, magnetic field and electric field. Superhydrophobic mesoporous material as a pH-sensitive organic dye adsorbent
Saravanan Nagappan,이단비,서덕진,박성수,하창식 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.22 No.-
A superhydrophobic material was synthesized using a one-pot approach via the self-hydrolysis andcondensation of polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) under a base catalyst in ethanol and water media. Theobtained superhydrophobic polymethylhydroxysiloxane (PMHOS) material was stable up to temperaturesas high as 500 8C, even under strong acidic and basic pH conditions. The micro–nano particles ofPMHOS exhibited a hierarchical morphology with a mesoporous structure. The superhydrophobicPMHOS, however, become superhydrophilic by calcination at 600 8C. The superhydrophobic andsuperhydrophilic PMHOS exhibited a good ability to adsorb organic dyes at a certain pH (pH 12).

Experimental work was carried out to study the combustion kinetics of the Indian coal-char in the varying mixture of carbon dioxide-oxygen ($CO_2-O_2$). The coal sample was pulverized and sieved to less than 58 microns and charred using volatile furnace by passing the nitrogen gas. The experiments were carried out using the Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA-50) at CPRI, Bangalore, different proportions of ($CO_2-O_2$) gas was allowed in to the TGA-50 (80-20, 60-40, 40-60, 20-80) mole basis were used to study the combustion kinetics of coal Isothermally, kinetic parameters like Activation energy (E) and the pre-exponential factors (A) are calculated using the unification approach and modified Arrhenius equation.
