      • Chinese and Korean Scholars’ Narratives on Buddhism in ancient China and Korea

        Santosh K. Gupta(Santosh K. Gupta ),Sanjay Kumar(Sanjay Kumar ) 강원한국학연구원 2022 국제한국학저널 Vol.12·13 No.-

Chinese and Korean scholar monks played significant role in reshaping Buddhist linkages between East Asian countries, particularly China and Korea. Transmission of Buddhist thought and culture developed scholarly people to people contact between China, Korea and neighboring states or confederacy which were more complex than today. This paper studies the narratives of Buddhist teachings, its expansion in Silk-road and narratives of Chinese and Korean Buddhist as an intermediary for assimilation of philosophical thoughts. The paper also focuses on the role of monks and scholars in forging cultural discourse of India with East Asia.

ENGAGING THE URBAN BUDDHIST LAITY: THE ‘BUDDHIST SOLIDARITY FOR REFORM’ ORGANIZATION IN SOUTH KOREA

2017 Acta Koreana Vol.20 No.2

During the Japanese colonial period and after the arrival of Korean independence, Korean Buddhism experienced a noticeable revival and rise of Buddhist organizations and NGOs. This article aims to examine the characteristics of lay Buddhist communities, with special reference to the ‘Buddhist Solidarity for Reform’ (BSR) organization in contemporary South Korea, which is actively engaging the laity by defining the role of modern Buddhism. This leading organization began as a distinct community movement confined to the urban masses and based on Buddhist beliefs. The group seeks reform of monastic Buddhism and calls for deeper participation of the laity in Buddhist activities. The BSR represents the elite urban class and primarily functions as a moderator for socially engaged Buddhism. This organization not only deals with community matters but also serves to buttress promotion of Buddhist practices in everyday life. The BSR functions completely independently and is critical toward the monastic-centric Buddhist orders of South Korea. Describing historical shifts in the lay Buddhist movements, this study analyzes how the lay Buddhist organizations are raising their voices, furthering social agendas for the urban laity and expanding their social bases by forming religious social networks.

GENERALISED COMMON FIXED POINT THEOREM FOR WEAKLY COMPATIBLE MAPPINGS VIA IMPLICIT CONTRACTIVE RELATION IN QUASI-PARTIAL Sb-METRIC SPACE WITH SOME APPLICATIONS

Vol.45 No.1

In the present paper, we prove common fixed point theorems for a pair of weakly compatible mappings under implicit contractive relation in quasi-partial Sb-metric spaces. We also provide an illustrative example to support our results. Furthermore, we will use the results obtained for application to two boundary value problems for the secondorder differential equation. Also, we prove a common solution for the nonlinear fractional differential equation.

      • A finite element based approach to observe hydrodynamic pressure in reservoir adjacent to concrete gravity dam

        Santosh Kumar, Das,Kalyan Kumar, Mandal,Arup Guha, Niyogi Techno-Press 2022 Ocean systems engineering Vol.12 No.4

This paper deals with the study of hydrodynamic pressure in reservoir adjacent to the concrete gravity dam subjected to dynamic excitation. Widely famous finite element method is used to discretize the reservoir domain for modelling purpose. Pressure is considered as nodal variable following Eulerian approach. A suitable nonreflecting boundary condition is applied at truncated face of reservoir to make the infinite reservoir to finite one for saving the computational cost. Thorough studies have been done on generation of hydrodynamic pressure in reservoir with variation of different geometrical properties. Velocity profile and hydrodynamic pressure are observed due to harmonic excitation for variation of inclination angle of dam reservoir interface. Effect of bottom slope angle and inclined length of reservoir bottom on hydrodynamic pressure coefficient of reservoir are also observed. There is significant increase in hydrodynamic pressure and distinct changes in velocity profile of reservoir are noticeable for change in inclination angle of dam reservoir interface. Change of bottom slope and inclined length of reservoir bottom are also governing factor for variation of hydrodynamic pressure in reservoir subjected to dynamic excitation.

Artificial Neural Network for Prediction of Mechanical Properties of HDPE Based Nanodiamond Nanocomposite

        Santosh Kumar Sahu,P. Vol.46 No.5

The mechanical performance of the nanocomposite depends on the processing conditions of the samples. Therefore a predictive model is essential to proceed the combination of processing conditions into account, for accurately predicting the mechanical properties is a critical requirement in manufacturing industries. The current investigation explores the prediction of mechanical properties of high-density polyethylene (HDPE)-based nano-diamond nanocomposite (i.e., HDPE/0.1 ND) using an artificial neural network (ANN) model under various processing conditions of temperature and pressure. A 2-10-2 (2 input, 10 hidden and 2 output layer) neural network model with Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm is developed to predict Young's modulus and Hardness of HDPE/0.1 ND nanocomposite. The model accurately predicted Young's modulus and hardness with a correlation coefficient of more than 0.99. The root means square error (r.m.s) of experimental vs. predicted value is minimal, confirming the proposed ANN model's high reliability and accuracy.

      • Reminiscence of Mahatma Gandhi in Korea on his 150th Birth Anniversary

Vol.10-11 No.-

Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore were the two major leaders of modern India in political, and cultural spheres respectively who ignited sparks in the bilateral relationship between India and Korea during the early decades of 20th century. The year 2019 marked the 150th birth anniversary of M.K. Gandhi. On the commemoration of his 150th birth anniversary, this paper is an attempt to trace the legacy of Indian political leader M. K. Gandhi in Korea. The primary source of this paper is from the published articles of the colonial era newspapers and autobiographies; supported by the other sources available in English and Korean languages as the secondary sources. According to research, Gandhi was highly respected in the Korean peninsula for his non-violent method of fighting for independence. Gandhi’s internationalist characteristics, his ideas for the world and the works on him in Korean language pave a new wave of inspiration to the Korean nationalist leaders and the Korean society. It is important to highlight the fine imprints of similarities and a common way of democratic appeal that prevailed in many situations in Korea during those days. Koreans resonated well with the ideologies of many of the moderates and freedom fighters of India. Perhaps, this is the great foundation which today in many shapes unfolds the great friendly relationship between India and Korea. This paper is the representation of my heartfelt tributes to the martyrs of Korea’s “March First Movement” of 1919 as well as to the Korean Provisional government on its centenary jubilee, and Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
