글은 이상정의 생애와 업적을 살펴보고, 그가 남긴 유고집의 의미와 사료적 가치를 조망하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 자료의 한계로 인해 그 전모 전체를 밝히기에는 어려움이 있지만 본 논의의 의미는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 이상정의 조국 독립군으로서의 활동을 살펴볼 수 있었고, 우리나라 최초의 여유 비행사였던 권기옥의 독립투쟁사를 밝힐 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 동북아시아 특히 한・중의 과거 관계를 알 수 있는 역사 사료로서의 가치를 발견할 수 있었다. 우리나라 고대사의 흐름을 제대로 이해하기 위해서는 동북 지역사에 대한 새로운 인식이 필요하다. 책의 내용을 보면 중국 동북삼성뿐만 아니라 곳곳의 유적지를 답사하며 고적과 유물의 역사와 유래에 대한 글을 남기고 있기 때문이다. 또한 『개벽(開闢)』 잡지 등에 그가 남긴 여러 편의 시조를 살펴보면 문예가로서의 면모도 발견할 수 있는데, 유고집에 남긴 이러한 글들은 문예집으로서도 가치를 지닌다고 할 수 있다. The purpose of this paper is to examine the life and achievements of General Lee Sang-jeong and identify the meaning and historical value of posthumous collection he left. Although there are difficulties in clarifying the full account due to the limitations of data, the significance of this paper can be summarized as follows. It could examine the activities of General Lee Sang-jeong as an army for national independence, and clarify the struggles for independence by Kwon Ki-ok, the first female pilot in Korea. Moreover, this paper could discover values as a historical record to know the past relationship in Northeast Asia, especially Korea and China. It is necessary to have a new recognition of the regional history of Northeast Asia to properly understand the flow of the ancient Korean history. By exploring historical sites in the 3 provinces of Northeast China as well as various places, the book leaves many writings about the history and origins of historical remains and sites, whose quality surpasses that of the writings by renowned, excellent historical scholars. Also, several sijo (Korean traditional three-verse Korean poems) in magazines such as ‘Gaebyeok' show General Lee Sang-jeong's talent as a literary artist, indicating the significant value of the pieces he left in his posthumous collection as a literary collection.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of group exer˗ cise program on depression in the elders with dementia. Subjects of this research were selected from the patients of Hyoja hospital(Yong˗ in, Korea). They were elders with dementia having minor to moderate degrees of cognitive function. Twenty-four subjects were randomly assigned into two groups, each with 12 people; exercise group and the control group. The control group only performed general physio˗ therapy, while the exercise group performed exercise program and general physiotherapy for 8 weeks. Depression of the exercise group and the control group were measured at baseline before the study, at 4 weeks, and at 8 weeks after the study. Depression was measured by Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form Korea Version(GDSSF-K). Firstly, when comparing the levels of depression within the same group, depression was significantly lower in the exercise group, after the group exercise program. However, depression of the control group did not show significant changes before or after the study. Secondly, when comparing the levels of depression of the control group and the exercise group, differences between the levels meas˗ ured before the study and 8 weeks after the study, was a statistically significant decrease of depression. Thirdly, effects of group exercise program according to the applied period were analyzed showing 8 weeks of group exercise to be more beneficial than 4 weeks. People who performed continuous group exercise program showed decrease in depression compared to the absence of group exercise program. This can infer beneficial effects of group exercise program. Group exercise program had desirable influence on decreasing the level of depression.
Background: Cold atmospheric plasma is a material that generates free radicals through the ionization of air. Despite the application of this material in various medical fields, the precise mechanism underlying its effect at the cellular level is not understood fully. To date, it is known to stimulate the expression of anti-oxidant transcription factors such as nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), forkhead box class O 3a (FOXO3a). Objectives: In this study, we aimed to assess whether and how cold atmospheric plasma affects damaged cells, particularly after exposure to UV radiation. Methods: Human dermal fibroblast primary cells from adult skin tissue were treated with the cold atmospheric plasma(CAP), UV exposure. Quantitative assessment is done by western blot analysis using various primary antibodies. Fluorescence images were obtained by immunocytochemistry. Results: Cold atmospheric plasma can promote mitochondrial health by controlling the stability of the membrane potential of mitochondria against UV radiation. Moreover, cold atmospheric plasma prevented senescence in fibroblasts exposed to UV radiation through the upregulation of p53. Cold atmospheric plasma also exhibited hormetic effects on MMP and collagen in senescent fibroblasts exposed to UV radiation. Conclusion: In conclusion, cold atmospheric plasma treatment not only protected fibroblasts from free radicals, but also repressed the aging of these cells in a UV-radiation-induced aging process.

Background: The benefit of statin in acute myocardial infarction (MI) was well established. However, there were few studies about the differential efficacy of statin according to the baseline level of triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol. Objective: To address the efficacy of statin in secondary prevention of MI according to the level of triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol on admission. Methods: The 36580 acute MI patients were enrolled from November 2005 to August 2012. Total patients were divided according to level of triglyceride and HDL cholesterol on admission and evaluated the efficacy of statin in patients with no lipid component of metabolic syndrome (Group A; n=15,461) (HDL cholesterol ≥40 mg/dL & triglyceride <150 mg/dL) and both components of metabolic syndrome (Group B; n=4,399)(HDL<0.001). However, the efficacy of statin was not prominent in Group B (HR=0.987; 95% CI; 0.708-1.376; p=0.939). After propensity matching, the survival analysis revealed that statin therapy reduced the risk of MACE in group A (HR=0.752, 95% CI; 0.609-0.929, p=0.008). This result was mainly due to reduction of cardiac death (HR=0.628, 95% CI; 0.420-0.938, p=0.023). Multivariate analysis revealed that use of statin contributed independently to improvement of clinical outcome in only Group A (HR=0.692, CI; 0.543-0.882, p=0.003). Conclusions: The long-term benefit ofstatin was not prominent in acute MI patients with lipid profiles of metabolic syndrome. Therefore, different lipid-lowering strategy is necessary in patients with low HDL and high triglyceride.
Wilt disease appeared the first in greenhouse-grown safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) in Jeonju, Korea. With the advancement of the disease, the infected plants were withered and died. In order to investigate the causal organism of this symptom disease, fungus was isolated from the infected plants and cultured on potato dextrose agar medium. The fungus showed the white or orange colony color with aerial mycelium. Macroconidia were from falcate to straight, usually 3–5 septate with 38.0–66.7× 2.9–4.4 μm. The fungus was inoculated to a new safflower plant and caused the same wilt. With morphological characters and pathogenicity results, sequence analyses (internal transcribed spacer ribosomal DNA and translation elongation factor 1α) suggested that, the isolated fungus is Fusarium proliferatum. This is the first report of Fusarium wilt disease caused by F. proliferatum on safflower in Korea.
We report three collembolan species in Entomobryidae previously unrecorded from Korea: Homidia socia Denis and Homidia nigrocephala Uchida from aquatic or semiaquatic habitats, and Entomobrya tokunakai Yosii from several forests. These species are redescribed.
