Leaf blotch of wheat caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana is a major constraint to wheat production, causing significant yield reduction resulting in severe economic impact. The present study characterizes to determine and compare pathogenic variability exist/not based on components of leaf blotch disease development and level of aggressiveness due to agroclimatic condition of B. sorokiniana in wheat. A total of 169 virulent isolates of B. sorokiniana isolated from spot blotch infected leaf from different wheat growing agroclimate of Bangladesh. Pathogenic variability was investigated on a susceptible wheat variety ‘kanchan’ now in Bangladesh. A clear evidence of positive relationship among the components was recorded. From hierarchical cluster analysis five groups were originating among the isolates. It resolved that a large amount of pathogenic diversity exists in Bipolaris sorokiniana. Variation in aggressiveness was found among the isolates from different wheat growing areas. Most virulent isolates BS 24 and BS 33 belonging to High Ganges River Flood Plain agro-climatic zones considered by rice-wheat cropping pattern, hot and humid weather, high land and low organic matter content in soil. Positive relationship was found between pathogenic variability and aggressiveness with agro-climatic condition.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is mostly damaged in sporting activities. To reconstruct the damagedACL, a patellar tendon (PT) is often the most preferred graft due to its fast healing and bone integration i.e. bone-patellartendon-bone graft. Suitability of the PT often depends on the morphometric profile of the tendon. This study reported on the harvestable surface area (SA) of the tendon using a simple tracing method. The PT of 79 adult formalin–fixed cadavers of South Africans of European Ancestry were dissected, and the margins of the PT were traced on a wax paper before the tracings were scanned. The SA, straight proximal width (SPW), curved proximal width (CPW), straight distal width (SDW), curved distal width (CDW) and length of tendon (LOT) from the digitized image of the PT was measured. In addition, the length of the lower limbs was measured to normalize the measurements. The results showed no significant side differences, and the measurements were not sexually dimorphic. A strong correlation was reported for SA vs. LOT, SPW vs. CPW and SDW vs. CDW for both sexes and sides. The presented morphological profile provides additional information on the usability of the graft and with respect to healing and recovery.
Motherhood and female Identity: Experiences of Childless Women of Two Religious Communities in India

Infertility or childlessness is an invisible defect or a hidden disability. It is not fatal but carries the burden of social stigma and results in a sense of personal failure, especially for women. The female partner generally feels more responsible and guilty even when the cause of infertility may be due to the male. This feeling is more pronounced in a society where womanhood and motherhood are important status symbols. Hence, infertility, particularly for women, imposes profound emotional and social stress, which in turn evokes feelings of denial, depression, desertion, grief and guilt in the way of a social disability. This article explores the lives of women of two religious communities from India whose personal stories depict their daily struggle to resist disempowerment and stigmatization. It also examines the position of childless women who are impacted by complex and countervailing social and familial pressures. The lives of Muslim women are rendered more difficult, given the various provisions of the Shariah on the one hand and the adoption law of the land on the other. Anterior cruciate ligament is a commonly damaged ligament of the knee. Reconstruction of this ligament usually entails the use of graft harvested from the same subject (i.e., autografts). Several tendons, for example quadriceps, patellar or semitendinosus tendon can be used as an autograft. The composition of the tendons is similar to the anterior cruciate ligament but there is no data that directly compares the compositions of the quadriceps, patellar and semitendinosus tendons. This study quantified and compared the tenocyte distribution and collagen content of these tendons from cadavers of South Africans of European Ancestry. The tenocyte distribution and collagen content were assessed using the ImageJ software. The results showed similarities in the collagen content across the tendons in both sexes (P>0.05). The tenocyte distribution was significantly higher in the quadriceps (P=0.019) or semitendinosus (P=0.016) tendon than in the patellar tendon in the female but no difference was seen in the male (P=0.872). This shows that a large harvestable area may not be directly associated with a more abundant collagen content or tenocyte distribution in the tendon. However, sex-specific tenocyte distribution is an important observation that underpins the possible influence of underlying biological factors on the composition of each tendon and this requires further investigations. In all, this study will contribute to knowledge and assist orthopaedic surgeons in making an informed decision on the choice of graft.

Purpose: Approximately 70–80% of individuals with Parkinson disease (PD) experience some change in voice, and about 55% experience changes in articulation with disease progression. Although an extensive literature exists about the benefits of well-known treatment programs such as LSVT LOUD® and LSVT BIG®, limited studies are currently available that shed light on possible benefits of relatively new programs called SPEAK OUT!® and LOUD Crowd® across both speech and non-speech dimensions among participants with PD. Therefore, the current study examined the possible benefits of a group-based LOUD Crowd® program among participants with PD across multiple speech and non-speech domains (i.e., voice, swallowing, cognition, self-reported depression, and VRQOL) during six months. Methods: Participants included six individuals with PD in the treatment (TX) group who participated in a weekly hour-long LOUD Crowd® program. In contrast, the control (CN) group included three individuals with PD who did not receive any speech or cognitive treatment specific to their PD symptoms before or during the study. All participants were within mild-moderate severities of hypokinetic dysarthrias. Results: No statistically significant group differences were observed between the TX and the CN groups at the end of six months. However, descriptive analyses suggested that the TX group demonstrated improved performance for different areas, including the vowel space, live loudness levels, cognitive performance, swallowing abilities, and VRQOL scores compared to the CN group. Conclusions: The current study suggests possible benefits of a group-based LOUD Crowd® program among participants with PD for a variety of speech and non-speech areas of functioning.
