This study aims at manufacturing SA welded API-X70 line-pipe with sour gas resistance. A pipe was manufactured by JCO bending process and SA welding using the API-X70 plate guaranteed HIC resistance. SA welded pipe was expanded in order to reduce the residual stress. The evaluation of a pipe for resistance to HIC and SSCC were performed by the RS D 0004 and RS D 0005 standards. For verification that a pipe has acceptable resistance to HIC, fullscale test was carried out. Results showed no cracking for the HIC and SSCC.

SMAW can be used all position mode and anywhere. The weldabiltiy of SMAW depends on the skill of the welder. Especially, the welding of horizontal and vertical-up position is very difficult for beginners to weld. The E4316 (low hydrogen type) electrode is more difficult to weld than other electrodes due to frequent sticking at low current welding. In this study, it is considered that the weldability of E4316 was improved in the case of short-circuit control at vertical-up welding. The characteristics was evaluated by shortcircuit control and compare with flat welding. The SMA welding power source with short-circuit control function was used. The waveform measurement was performed to analyze the characteristics of short- circuit control. As a result, the difficulty of vertical-up welding at low current is due to the low frequency of short-circuit and the long short-circuit period. The short-circuit control is increase weldability of vertical- up by suppressed long short-circuit. So, it is possible to easily weld vertical-up welding by using a short-circuit-controlled SMA welding power source.

In high speed $CO_2$ welding, it has been blown to produce no sound bead with undercut or humping bead. In this study welding phenomena through synchronized high speed camera and output welding voltage and current waveform has been analyzed. For the purpose to improve a welding bead, effect of short circuit current rise slope has been examined. With commercial power source it was produced no sound bead by instantaneous short circuit, long arc period and stubbing at welding speed 2.5mm/min Humping bead or undercut were showed by instantaneous short circuit and long arc period. Also, the weld bead was not formed during the long short circuit period after stubbing start and long arc extinguishment period after wire sticking by failure of arc regeneration, because the droplet was not transferred to weld pool. With increasing short circuit current rise slope the frequency of stubbing was decreased and the normal short circuit rate was increased. A control of short circuit current rise slope was effective factor in high speed welding.

The digital controlled SMA welding power source having the hot start current and short circuit waveform control was developed. The inverter power controller was used an analog circuit and the short circuit waveform controller was developed using a 8-bit MCU. For the evaluation of the developed SMA welding power source it were compared with a domestic welding power sources. Using the high titanium oxide type and low hydrogen type electrodes, the characteristics of hot start and short circuit was evaluated. Developed SMA welding power source shows good start performance. Also, arc stability and low current weldability were improved by the short circuit waveform control.
