The Adjusting Process of Foreign Wives Married to Korean Husbands

        ( Panuncio Rosel L ),( Jeong Yee Bae ) 한국간호과학회 정신간호학회(구 대한간호학회정신간호학회) 2012 정신간호학회지 Vol.21 No.1

Purpose: Purposes of this study were to explore the experiences of Filipinas living as foreign wives in Korea and to formulate a substantive theory that explains the basic social process of adjusting to life as a foreign wife in Korea. Methods: This descriptive qualitative study utilized the grounded theory design. In-depth, semi-structured, audio-taped interviews were conducted with 10 Filipino immigrant wives in Korea. Interview data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using Strauss and Corbin`s constant comparative analysis. Results: Six main categories emerged: aspiring, confronting, suffering, coping, assimilating, and regretting. Fundamental to these was the core category of embracing a new life. A theoretical model showing the basic social processes of adjusting to life as a foreign wife in Korea was developed to reflect the inter-relationships among these categories. Extracts of the data were presented to illustrate the grounding of the theoretical model in the participants` accounts. Conclusion: The findings from this study provide an increase in the understanding of Filipino immigrant wives, which should help in designing effective coping strategies that consider the particular characteristics and problems of Filipino immigrant wives. Programs under existing policies need to undergo continuous improvement in order to increase the well-being of these immigrant wives.

        청소년 물질남용의 구조 모형

배정이,Rosel Panuncio 한국간호과학회 2009 Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Vol.39 No.3

Purpose: The aim of this study was to construct a structural equation model that would further explain the continuously increasing substance use disorder in Korean adolescents. Methods: Survey visits using a structured questionnaire were conducted with 3,885 students in 2 middle schools and 2 high schools in Busan. A total of 13 instruments were used in this model. The analysis of data was done with both SPSS 14.0 for descriptive statistics and AMOS 5.0 for covariance structure analysis. Results: Based on the constructed model, belief on substance use was found to have a significantly direct effect in influencing adolescent substance use. In addition, other factors such as family environment, satisfaction with school life, self-concept, social support, and personality vulnerability indirectly affected substance use. The final modified model yielded Chi-square=2,987 (p<.001), df=121, 2/df=22.1, GFI=.96, AGFI=.93, NFI=.91, PNFI=.72, PGFI=.72, RMSEA=.07 and exhibited fit indices. Conclusion: This study constructed a model that addresses the factors related to adolescent substance use and explains the relationship of these factors in influencing substance use among Korean adolescents. Findings from this study can contribute to designing appropriate prevention strategies to reduce substance related disorders in adolescents.

Sex Differences in Factors Affecting Self-Concept among High School Students

        배정이,Panuncio, Rosel L. 한국정신간호학회 2009 정신간호학회지 Vol.18 No.3

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate gender differences in the levels of self-concept and to identify predictive factors affecting self-concept in Korean high school students. Methods: The sample for this study was 836 males and 763 female high school students from B city. Data was collected through self-report questionnaires composed of a total of eight instruments. The data was analyzed by independent sample t-test, ANOVA test, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results:The degree of self-concept was higher in males (79.63 ± 10.98) than females (79.59 ± 10.36). Self-concept showed significant differences in both males and females according to economic status, education of parents, running away, and suicide attempts. Grade level was significant only in males, while academic ranking was significant in females. Self-concept was not statistically different in terms of students' religion, sexual experience, invalid school absences, and getting into fights. Predictors of self-concept for both genders were depression, impulsiveness, antisocial behavior, family satisfaction, peer support, school adjustment and achievement. Conclusion: It is necessary to identify different predictors affecting self-concept as well as high risk populations with low self-concept in order to develop and implement appropriate and effective gender specific programs to promote a higher self-concept for today's youth leading them to a brighter future.

Effectiveness of a Web-based Intervention for Depressive Symptoms Management

        JeongYee Bae,Rosel L. Panuncio 대한의료정보학회 2008 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.14 No.3

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a web-based intervention program for depressive symptoms management among Korean adults. Methods: After the first author developed a user-centered design website intended to manage the depressive symptoms of the general public, two hundred and seventy two participants were screened and randomly assigned into experimental and control groups. These subjects underwent a 12-week nonequivalent pretest and post-test evaluation program to determine changes in their depression scores, which were measured using the Korean Depression Scale. Subjects’ unique IP addresses were used for monitoring their access periods on the website. Results: There were no significant differences in the baseline and outcome characteristics of both experimental and control groups. Moreover, findings revealed that the total depression score of the experimental group (who accessed the developed web-site three times a week with at least an hour per session) showed to have decreased immensely with a mean of 5.57. On the contrary, only a 0.09 point difference resulted between the pre and post tests of the control group (who accessed other depression management websites generally available). Conclusions: Web-based interventions could be an effective and inexpensive means of managing depressive symptoms of Koreans. Findings from this effectiveness study of an internet-based program could also be used by a variety of audiences including government agencies, educators, and health care professionals concerned with mental health promotion and prevention.

Common models and approaches for the clinical educator to plan effective feedback encounters

        Cesar Orsini,Veena Rodrigues,Jorge Tricio,Margarita Rosel 한국보건의료인국가시험원 2022 보건의료교육평가 Vol.19 No.-

Giving constructive feedback is crucial for learners to bridge the gap between their current performance and the desired standards of competence. Giving effective feedback is a skill that can be learned, practiced, and improved. Therefore, our aim was to explore models in clinical settings and assess their transferability to different clinical feedback encounters. We identified the 6 most common and accepted feedback models, including the Feedback Sandwich, the Pendleton Rules, the One-Minute Preceptor, the SET-GO model, the R2C2 (Rapport/Reaction/Content/Coach), and the ALOBA (Agenda Led Outcome-based Analysis) model. We present a handy resource describing their structure, strengths and weaknesses, requirements for educators and learners, and suitable feedback encounters for use for each model. These feedback models represent practical frameworks for educators to adopt but also to adapt to their preferred style, combining and modifying them if necessary to suit their needs and context.

      • The Formation Mechanism of Fluorescent Metal Complexes at the Li<i>x</i>Ni0.5Mn1.5O4−δ/Carbonate Ester Electrolyte Interface

        Jarry, Angé,lique,Gottis, Sé,bastien,Yu, Young-Sang,Roque-Rosell, Josep,Kim, Chunjoong,Cabana, Jordi,Kerr, John,Kostecki, Robert American Chemical Society 2015 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.137 No.10

<P>Electrochemical oxidation of carbonate esters at the Li<I>x</I>Ni0.5Mn1.5O4−δ/electrolyte interface results in Ni/Mn dissolution and surface film formation, which negatively affect the electrochemical performance of Li-ion batteries. Ex situ X-ray absorption (XRF/XANES), Raman, and fluorescence spectroscopy, along with imaging of Li<I>x</I>Ni0.5Mn1.5O4−δ positive and graphite negative electrodes from tested Li-ion batteries, reveal the formation of a variety of MnII/III and NiII complexes with β-diketonate ligands. These metal complexes, which are generated upon anodic oxidation of ethyl and diethyl carbonates at Li<I>x</I>Ni0.5Mn1.5O4−δ, form a surface film that partially dissolves in the electrolyte. The dissolved MnIII complexes are reduced to their MnII analogues, which are incorporated into the solid electrolyte interphase surface layer at the graphite negative electrode. This work elucidates possible reaction pathways and evaluates their implications for Li+ transport kinetics in Li-ion batteries.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2015/jacsat.2015.137.issue-10/ja5116698/production/images/medium/ja-2014-116698_0007.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja5116698'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
