Research into the development and competitiveness of national elite sport systems has grown significantly in recent years. Most research concerns large or medium-sized nations whereas studies of elite sport systems in small nations are notably absent. This paper focuses on a (very) small nation and its efforts to become competitive in international elite sport. Using the nine pillars of the SPLISS framework, the study assesses the strengths and weaknesses of Greenland’s elite sport system. From a pure results perspective, Greenland performs below expectations. This is partly the result of its climatic and geographical conditions and low population density. The case study of elite sport in Greenland has intrinsic value in its analysis of a nation with extreme conditions in this respect. The case study is also used to suggest general conclusions regarding the capabilities and limitations of elite sport systems in small nations.

Objectives: The use of videoconferencing technologies for clinician-patient online consultations has become increasinglypopular. Training on online communication competence through a videoconferencing application that integrates nonverbalcommunication detection with feedback is one way to prepare future clinicians to conduct effective online consultations. Thiscase report describes and evaluates two such applications designed for healthcare professionals and students in healthcare-relatedfields. Methods: We conducted a literature review using five databases, including the Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed,ACM, IEEE, and CINAHL in the spring of 2022. Results: We identified seven studies on two applications, ReflectLive andEQClinic. These studies were conducted by two research groups from the USA and Australia and were published between2016 and 2020. Both detected nonverbal communication from video and audio and provided computer-generated feedbackon users’ nonverbal communication. The studies evaluated usability, effectiveness in learning communication skills, and changes in the users’ awareness of their nonverbal communication. The developed applications were deemed feasible. However, the feedback given by the applications needs improvement to be more beneficial to the user. The applications wereprimarily evaluated with medical students, with limited or no attention given to questions regarding ethics, informationsecurity, privacy, sustainability, and costs. Conclusions: Current research on videoconferencing systems for training onlineconsultation skills is very limited. Future research is needed to develop more user-centered solutions, focusing on a multidisciplinarygroup of students and professionals, and to explore the implications of these technologies from a broader perspective, including ethics, information security, privacy, sustainability, and costs.
A parametric study of the meso-scale modelling of concrete subjected to cyclic compression
Rasmus Rempling,Peter Grassl 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2008 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.5 No.4
The present parametric study deals with the meso-scale modelling of concrete subjected to cyclic compression, which exhibits hysteresis loops during unloading and reloading. Concrete is idealised as a two-dimensional three-phase composite made of aggregates, mortar and interfacial transition zones (ITZs). The meso-scale modelling approach relies on the hypothesis that the hysteresis loops are caused by localised permanent displacements, which result in nonlinear fracture processes during unloading and reloading. A parametric study is carried out to investigate how aggregate density and size, amount of permanent displacements in the ITZ and the mortar, and the ITZ strength influence the hysteresis loops obtained with the meso-scale modelling approach.

Purpose: To report our experience with two-stage revision using a new femoral component (NFC) spacer (Depuy Synthes) as an articulating spacer. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, we reviewed 22 two-stage revisions that were performed using an NFC spacer in 22 patients suspected of having an infected total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from December 2010 to March 2013. The result was considered successful when eradication of infection was achieved using only one NFC spacer. Results: The average time from primary TKA to the first stage procedure was 29.1 months and the average time from the first stage procedure until the final second stage procedure was 12.7 weeks. The average range of motion increased from 82o preoperatively to 104o postoperatively. The American Knee Society Knee score increased from 29.3 points to 66 points. The Function score increased from 29.5 points to 64 points. Four cases were reinfected after two-stage revision. The mean follow-up was 37.6 months. Conclusions: The new articulating spacer showed promising short-term results both with regard to eradication of infection and functional improvement.
Spotlight on protein N-terminal acetylation
Rasmus Ree,Sylvia Varland,Thomas Arnesen 생화학분자생물학회 2018 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.50 No.-
N-terminal acetylation (Nt-acetylation) is a widespread protein modification among eukaryotes and prokaryotes alike. By appending an acetyl group to the N-terminal amino group, the charge, hydrophobicity, and size of the N-terminus is altered in an irreversible manner. This alteration has implications for the lifespan, folding characteristics and binding properties of the acetylated protein. The enzymatic machinery responsible for Nt-acetylation has been largely described, but significant knowledge gaps remain. In this review, we provide an overview of eukaryotic N-terminal acetyltransferases (NATs) and the impact of Nt-acetylation. We also discuss other functions of known NATs and outline methods for studying Nt-acetylation.
Vertebro-Vertebral Fistula Occlusion Using a Woven EndoBridgeTM-Device
Dahl Rasmus Holmboe,Ghasemi-Rad Mohammad,Eskesen Vagn,Frevert Susanne Christiansen,Sølling Christine,Benndorf Goetz 대한신경중재치료의학회 2023 Neurointervention Vol.18 No.3
Vertebro-vertebral fistulas (VVFs) are vascular lesions that may develop after trauma or spontaneously in association with connective tissue disorders. We present a rare case of a post-traumatic VVF in a young patient presenting with a painless swelling and a bruit in her left upper neck. Digital subtraction angiography showed an arteriovenous fistula between the left vertebral artery (VA) and the vertebral venous plexus with significant steal phenomenon. Endovascular therapy was performed using a Woven EndoBridgeTM (WEB)-device combined with coils that allowed preservation of the VA. The patient fully recovered from her symptoms and follow-up imaging showed stable occlusion. In conclusion, VVFs can be effectively treated using intrasaccular flow diverters such as the WEB-device, allowing for complete and stable occlusion while preserving the parent artery.
Assessment of the Effect of Probabilistic Modeling of Sea-States in Fatigue Damage Calculations
FolsØ, Rasmus,Dogliani, Mario The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 1999 Journal of ship and ocean technology Vol.3 No.3
Spectral fatigue damage calculations has been performed on four ships in order to assess the effect that the probabilistic modeling of sea states has on the estimated fatigue life. The damage estimation method is based on the Miner- Palmgren fatigue damage formulation and a spectral approach is used to determine the necessary variances of the stress processes. Both the horizontal and vertical hull girder bending induced stress process together with the local water pressure induced stress process is taken into account. The wave scatter diagrams are applied in the calculations and their fatigue severity is assessed by analyzing the results obtained with the ten scatter diagrams and the four ships. All four ships are analyzed both in full load and ballast conditions and while traveling at both full and reduced speed. It is found that the fatigue severity of a wave scatter diagram is dependent on several parameters, some of these being the extreme wave hight extrapolated from the scatter diagram and the mean zero up-crossing period in conjunction with the ship length . Based on these three parameters and expression is derived in order to calculate one single number describing the fatigue severity of a scatter diagram with respect to a certain ship.
Intercolony transplantation of Oecophylla smaragdina (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) larvae
Kristian Krag,Rasmus Lundegaard,Joachim Offenberg,Mogens Gissel Nielsen,Decha Wiwatwittaya 한국응용곤충학회 2010 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.13 No.2
Oecophylla ants are utilized for biological control in fruit plantations in Australia and Asia. In Asia, queen larvae and alates are sold on commercial markets for human and animal consumption. This double utilization has induced an increasing interest in the domestication of these ants, but attempts to rear live colonies have been hindered partly by the length of time it takes from the founding of a colony until it can be utilized commercially. Early growth of a colony may be increased if ants from other colonies are adopted. The present experiments show that Oecophylla smaragdina larvae transplanted from other colonies are readily tolerated by non-nestmate workers and are reared to imagos. These results are fundamental for the future domestication of Oecophylla and elucidate the need for further studies of chemical nestmate recognition.
