        Numerical Study of Passive Control with Slotted Blading in Highly Loaded Compressor Cascade at Low Mach Number

        With the aim to increase blade loadings and stable operating range in highly loaded compressors, this article has been conducted to explore, through a numerical parametric study, the potential of passive control using slotted bladings in cascade configurations. The objective of this numerical investigation is to analyze the influence of location, width and slope of the slots and therefore identify the optimal configuration. The approach is based on two dimensional cascade geometry, low speed regime, steady state and turbulent RANS model. The results show the efficiency of this passive technique to delay separation and enhance aerodynamic performances of the compressor cascade. A maximum of 28.3% reduction in loss coefficient have been reached, the flow turning is increased with approximately $5^0$ and high loading over a wide range of angle of attack have been obtained for the optimized control parameter.

        Double Retroperitoneal Hydatid Localization: A Case Report

        The hydatid cyst is a parasitic pathology which is endemic in Tunisia and presents a public health problem. Hydatid cysts located in the retroperitoneum, especially around or in the kidney, are rare and only represent 5% of visceral locations. The kidney is the most commonly affected organ of the urinary tract. The psoas muscle is an uncommon location and not less than 70 cases have been cited. We report the case of an unusual presentation of a right kidney hydatid cyst associated with a psoas muscle location. To our knowledge, this association of double retroperitoneal location has not been reported in the literature.

      • Effect of Seven Days of Beta-Alanine Supplementation on Cycle Ergometer Wingate Test Performance

        Carnosine is a skeletal muscle potent H+ buffer that is suggested to reduce acidosis during high-intensity exercise. Carnosine synthesis is highly limited by the Beta-Alanine (β-Ala) availability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 7 days of β-Ala supplementation on 30-sec cycle ergometer Wingate test parameters. Total of 16 healthy active subjects (10 males and 6 females) [32.2±4.8 years, 81.3 ± 15.9kg, and 173.8±8.9 cm] were pre-tested on 30-sec maximal ergometer cycling Wingate test. They were thereafter assigned randomly to a treatment group (β-Ala) and control group (Con). Subjects in β-Ala received a 15 g of flavored β-Ala (5 g β-Ala, 10 g of dextrose), while Con received a 15 g of dextrose only (placebo). After supplementation, subjects performed the same maximal ergometer cycling test. Only Peak and mean RPM increased from pre- to post-supplementation in β-Ala (P< 0.01), but not in Con (P > 0.3).The percent change from pre- to post-supplementation was greater in β-Ala than Con. Total work done was not affected by the β-Ala despite the increase in peak and mean RPM. These data shows that 7 days of β-Ala supplementation does not improve cycle ergometer Wingate test performance. Increased RPM is not a necessary indicator of elevated total power output during maximal cycling.

        TikTok: Startup from the Stage of the Ideation to the One of the Growth

        Nowadays, social networks and vines have become a necessity for all of us to make from our smartphones a real tool of education and entertainment. With an exponential growth in terms of the application download reaching actually about 1.8 billion active users and revenues estimated to more than 10 billion dollars in the end of 2022, The “TikTok” application is becoming not only a social phenomenon, but it is also the new serious competitor of big digital startup like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Thus, the current case study aims to analyze the “Tik Tok” company, a world-famous vine, which is considered as a very successful Asian startup. Based in China, this startup has recently achieved remarkable performance in a multidimensional level: Technological, commercial, and financial. Interested by this case, an effort of analysis was made to understand the growth stages of that global application, its critical milestones, and its crucial turning point: the COVID 19 pandemic which was detected as the “good wind” to the development of that startup. After a strategic diagnosis made through a SWOT analysis, we found many elements that constitute the value proposition, the competitive advantage, and the key success factors of that company. These findings are very important in terms of the added value to young people, merchants, and nascent entrepreneurs. The traced strategies that it has developed to overcome difficult challenges are very didactic and instructive to the community of digital startuppers to be inspired from the reasons behind the success of that Asian company, and to gain knowledge about the evolving market through technology.

      • The Validity of Submaximal Cycle Ergometer Test to Predict Maximal Oxygen Consumption

        Maximal exercise testing to measure maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) requires the participant to reach a point of volitional fatigue that involves medical supervision and appropriate equipment and personnel. On the other hand, submaximal tests involve reduced risk and require minimal equipment. YMCA ergometer test protocol has been widely used, but with uncertain validity, and mostly compared to treadmill maximal test results. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the ability of a submaximal ergometer test to predict VO2max obtained from ergometer maximal test, rather than treadmill. Eight healthy active men of age of 31.5 ± 3.5 years, mass 84.65 ± 13.36 ㎏, and height 181.6 ± 6.2 ㎝ voluntarily participated in this study. Each participant performed first the maximal graded test on a stationary ergometer (Velotron Dynafit Pro, USA) equipped with a metabolic measurement system. After 72 h of the maximal test, participants performed the YMCA submaximal ergometer test on a Monark cycle ergometer. VO2max values were 40.2 ± 7.9, and 43.5 ± 8.8 ml O₂.㎏<SUP>-1</SUP>.min<SUP>-1</SUP> measured by the maximal graded test and the YMCA submaximal ergometer test, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the measured and the predicted VO2max values (p = 0.13). These data suggest that the YMCA ergometer submaximal test is potentially valid to predict VO2max when it is measured on a cycle ergometer.

        Technical Design of RISP RFQ Cooler Buncher

        An RFQCB is designed at Rare Isotope Science Project (RISP) project to efficiently accept high intensity continuous beams provided by ISOL-RISP facility and deliver to Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) charge breeder bunched beams with emittance around 3 .mm.mrad, energy spread < 10 eV and short bunch width ( 10 μs). A new design concept to be implemented in this RFQCB have been developed, including a novel optics system with improved differential pumping system. An electric system providing RF voltages of high amplitudes going up to 10 kV is being also developed. The mechanical design of the various elements forming the radiofrequency quadrupole (RFQ) charge breeder (CB) and their matter are also performed. An overview of the RISP RFQCB design concept as well as the development of its sub-systems will be reported.

      • 5-Aminolevulinic acid production in engineered Corynebacterium glutamicum via C<sub>5</sub> biosynthesis pathway

        ALA (5-aminolevulinic acid) is an important intermediate in the synthesis of tetrapyrroles and the use of ALA has been gradually increasing in many fields, including medicine and agriculture. In this study, improved biological production of ALA in Corynebacterium glutamicum was achieved by overexpressing glutamate-initiated C<SUB>5</SUB> pathway. For this purpose, copies of the glutamyl t-RNA reductase HemA from several bacteria were mutated by site-directed mutagenesis of which a HemA version from Salmonella typhimurium exhibited the highest ALA production. Cultivation of the HemA-expressing strain produced approximately 204mg/L of ALA, while co-expression with HemL (glutamate-1-semialdehyde aminotransferase) increased ALA concentration to 457mg/L, representing 11.6- and 25.9-fold increases over the control strain (17mg/L of ALA). Further effects of metabolic perturbation were investigated, leading to penicillin addition that further improves ALA production to 584mg/L. In an optimized flask fermentation, engineered C. glutamicum strains expressing the HemA and hemAL operon produced up to 1.1 and 2.2g/L ALA, respectively, under glutamate-producing conditions. The final yields represent 10.7- and 22.0-fold increases over the control strain (0.1g/L of ALA). From these findings, ALA biosynthesis from glucose was successfully demonstrated and this study is the first to report ALA overproduction in C. glutamicum via metabolic engineering.
