Monte Carlo Computation of the Energy Deposited by Protons in Water, Bone and Adipose

Rahmi Kucer,Nermin Kucer,Gorkem Turemen 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.4

Protons are most suitable for treating deeply-seated tumors due to their unique depth dose distribution. The maximum dose of protons is a pronounced peak, called the Bragg peak, with zero dose behind the peak. The objective of radiation therapy with protons is to deliver the dose to the target volume by using this type of distribution. This is achieved with a finite number of Bragg peaks at the depth of the target volume. The location of the peak in terms of depth depends on the energy of the protons. Simulations are used to determine the depth dose distribution of proton beams passing through tissue, so it is important that experimental data agree with the simulation data. In this study, we used the FLUKA computer code to determine the correct position of the Bragg peak for proton beams passing through water, bone and adipose, and the results were compared with experimental data.

Thinking Pattern of Scientists: A Literature Review of Cognitive Bias in Scientific Work

        Rahmi Qurota Aini,Yustika Sya’bandari,Ai Nurlaelasari Rusmana,하민수(Minsu Ha) 한국교원대학교 뇌기반교육연구소 2021 Brain, Digital, & Learning Vol.11 No.3

Scientist has an essential role for making discoveries and come across inventions. However, the way of doing science can obstructed due to the human limitation and individual reasoning. Knowing the process of system thinking is essentials approach to understand how science product are influenced by various factors. Research on cognitive biases can help this interest to understand this limitation among scientists. We discussed about scientist activities that considers on history and philosophy of science and the sustainable future requiring creative problem solving which can be very susceptible to cognitive biases. Another attention is the multilayer of current scientific work, where scientist works individually and collaborate with the colleagues. Thus, this paper discusses the framework of cognitive biases related to scientist works. Alternatively, weighing such consideration, the new framework was made by listing the biases among scientific work. We close with the recommendation of validating this framework to become of potential construct that would be helpful for further study.

An Integrated Multi-criteria Structural Equation Model for Green Supplier Selection

Rahmi Baki 한국정밀공학회 2022 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.9 No.4

The aims of the current study are to determine the criteria to be considered in a green supplier selection (GSS) process, develop an integrated decision-making approach using structural equation modelling (SEM) and fuzzy additive ratio assessment (ARAS) techniques to rank suitable suppliers, and investigate the effectiveness of this approach in collective decisionmaking. The study’s ultimate objective is to propose a method created from the perspective of fuzzy logic in which criterion weights are determined using SEM to resolve decision-making challenges such as GSS, in which a compromise solution is desired. In the fi rst stage of the study, relevant literature as examined in detail. Eight main criteria and 27 sub-criteria were detected, taking into account classical, green, and social supplier selection (SS) criteria. A questionnaire was administered to 254 participants who were actively involved in SS processes for their companies, and the data were analyzed using SEM. In the second phase, six suppliers were evaluated considering the criteria found to have a positive impact on GSS, and fuzzy ARAS was applied. The results showed that the factors affecting GSS are quality (0.291), social responsibility (0.222), service (0.21), cost (0.149) and green product (0.128). The study presents an effective, objective, and fast method that can be used in decision-making problems such as GSS, that prevents potential loss of information and lack of transparency through an integrated approach, and that can be tested with a generalizable framework. The proposed hybrid method is an efficient and practical approach that can be tested on many decision-making problems, such as SS.

Development of mucosal vaccine delivery: an overview on the mucosal vaccines and their adjuvants

Rahmi Anggraeni,Ika Dewi Ana,Hevi Wihadmadyatami 대한백신학회 2022 Clinical and Experimental Vaccine Research Vol.11 No.3

Currently, mucosal infectious diseases are still a very high global health burden, but there are few effective vaccines to prevent mucosal-borne diseases. The development of mucosal vaccines requires the selection of appropriate antigens, delivery system strategies, and adjuvants to increase vaccine efficacy but limited studies have been conducted. The aim of this review is to describe the mucosal immune system, as well as the potential for the development of vaccines and mucosal adjuvants, and their challenges. The study was conducted by applying inclusion criteria for the articles, and a review was conducted by two readers with the agreement. It was known that mucosal vaccination is a potential route to be applied in future preventive efforts through vaccination. However, limited studies have been conducted so far and limited mucosal vaccination has been approved. New technological approaches such as material development involving nano- and micro-patterning are important to intensively open and investigate the potential area of development to provide better vaccination methods.

Perceptions of Islamic banking products: Evidence from Malaysia

        Mustika RAHMI,Nurul AZMA,Fahd Mohammed OBAD,Muhammad ZAIM,Mahfuzur RAHMAN 한국유통과학회 2020 Asian Journal of Business Environment (AJBE) Vol.10 No.3

Purpose: Islamic banking products and services have always claimed to be unique from its traditional interest-based counterpart. However, in practice, many Islamic banks are alleged to have drifted away from its paradigm version. The purpose of this study is to gauge the perception of university students in Malaysia towards Islamic banking products. Research design, data and methodology: Data were collected from 250 Malaysian university students. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was performed to test proposed hypotheses to identify factors influencing customers‘ perception toward Islamic banking products. Results: The main finding indicates that most of the respondents are familiar with Islamic banking products and consider Islamic banking products as useful as it s conventional counterparts. The regression results show that respondents are less convinced of adherence to Shari‘ah, efficiency and helpfulness of existing Islamic banks. Conclusions: This is a cue to the Islamic banks‘ stakeholders that they need to realign their practices in an ethically responsible way in accordance with Shari‘ah if they wish to secure existing customers and attract potential ones. In a competitive banking environment, most banks provide efficient and readily available service; thus, focusing on this as a strategy hardly distinguishes an Islamic bank from an interest-based bank

      • Effect of the Pressure Formation at the Tip of the Melt Delivery Tube in Close-coupled Nozzles in Gas Atomization Process

Unal Rahmi 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1

Close-coupled atomizers are of great interest and controlling their performance parameters is critical for metal powder producing and spray forming industries. In this study, designed close-coupled nozzle systems were used to investigate the effect of the nozzle types and protrusion length of the melt delivery tube on the pressure formation at the melt delivery tube tip. The observed metal flow rate was not behaving as what was earlier assumed, namely that, deeper aspiration enhanced metal flow rate. Higher aspiration pressure at the tip of the melt delivery tube increases the stability of atomization process.

      • Matrix Composition Effect on the Wear Behavior of Diamond Segments

        Unal Rahmi,Gurcay Alper 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1

Diamond tools were fabricated by cold pressing and sintering under pressure at the temperature up to . Investigation of the microhardness behaviour of the segments was showed that increasing the cobalt ratio causes the increase of the hardness of the matrix material. This caused to decrease of the wear rate of the matrix. Because the matrix wears more slowly than the diamonds, the space between the cutting edges and the matrix is constantly reduced. The swarf cannot be carried away properly, and the segment will continuously lose its ability to cut with higher cobalt contents.

      • Results of Intravesical Chemo-Hyperthermia in High-risk Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer

Ekin, Rahmi Gokhan,Akarken, Ilker,Cakmak, Ozgur,Tarhan, Huseyin,Celik, Orcun,Ilbey, Yusuf Ozlem,Divrik, Rauf Taner,Zorlu, Ferruh Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.8

Purpose: To examine the effectiveness of mitomycin-C and chemo-hyperthermia in combination for patients with high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Materials and Methods: Between November 2011-September 2013, 43 patients with high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer undergoing adjuvant chemo-hyperthermia in two centers were evaluated retrospectively. Treatment consisted of 6 weekly sessions, followed by 6 sessions. Recurrence and progression rate, recurrence-free interval and side effects were examined. Analyzed factors included age, gender, smoking status, AB0 blood group, body mass index, T stage and grade, concominant CIS assets. The associations between predictors and recurrence were assessed using multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses. Results: A total of 40 patients completed induction therapy. Thirteen (32.5%) were diagnosed with tumor recurrence. Median follow-up was 30 months (range 9-39). Median recurrence-free survival was 23 months (range 6-36). The Kaplan-Meier-estimated recurrence-free rates for the entire group at 12 and 24 months were 82% and 61%. There was no statistically significant difference between patient subgroups. Cox hazard analyses showed that an A blood type (OR=6.23, p=0.031) was an independent predictor of recurrence-free. Adverse effects were seen in 53% of patients and these were frequently grades 1 and 2. Conclusions: Intravesical therapy with combination of mitomycin-C and chemohyperthermia seems to be appropriate in high-risk patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer who cannot tolerate or have contraindications for standard BCG therapy.
