      • Enhanced Visible Light-Driven Photocatalysis by Eu3+-Doping in BaNb2V2O11 with Layered Mixed-Anion Structure

        Qin, Lin,Cai, Peiqing,Chen, Cuili,Cheng, Han,Wang, Jing,Kim, Sun Il,Seo, Hyo Jin American Chemical Society 2016 The Journal of Physical Chemistry Part C Vol.120 No.24

<P>Europium- (Eu-) doped BaNb(2)V(2)O(11)powders with layered mixed -anion structure were prepared through the solid state method successfully. The obtained powders were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), structural refinement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) absorption spectra, and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The experimental results demonstrate that BaNb2V2O11 powders could absorb the UV-vis light effectively with the band gap energy of 2.219 eV. The introduction of Eu5 in the host contributes to the decrease of the band gap energy (2.137 eV). Moreover, the photocatalytic activities of the obtained powders were evaluated through the photocatalytic degradation of the methylene blue (MB) solutions under visible light irradiation as a function of time. All the results indicate that the BaNb2V2O11 powders can be used as a potential visible -light -driven photo catalyst. Notably, due to the introduction of Eu3+, the photocatalytic degradation rate of MB solutions could be improved dramatically. The influence of the existence of Eu3+ on the photocatalytic properties is further discussed in detail based on the crystal structure characteristic.</P>

A Method for Multiple Identification of Four β2-Agonists in Goat Muscle and Beef Muscle Meats Using LC-MS/MS Based on Deproteinization by Adjusting pH and SPE for Sample Cleanup

        Lin Xiong,Ya-Qin Gao,Wei-Hong Li,Tian-Feng Guo,Xiao-Lin Yang 한국식품과학회 2015 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.24 No.5

An LC-MS/MS method was established for simultaneous identification of levels of bilpaterol, cimbuterol, clenproperol, and bambuterol in goat and beef muscle. Meat samples were subjected to extraction using an aqueous acidic solution and cleansed using MCX solid phase extraction. β2-Agonists residues were extracted using an aqueous acidic solution. Proteins in extraction liquids was removed based on adjusting pH using perchloric acid and a sodium hydroxide solution, followed by SPE for clean-up. Linearity values of the method based on R2 values were 0.9976-0.9997 with 70.1-108.8% recovery and relative standard deviation values of 3.5-13.3%. Low limits of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) of 0.01-0.02 and 0.02-0.08 μg/kg, respectively, were achieved for spiked goat and spiked beef muscle. The method was sensitive and specific and is an improvement over other currently available technologies.

      • Scutellaria Extract Decreases the Proportion of Side Population Cells in a Myeloma Cell Line by Down-regulating the Expression of ABCG2 Protein

        Lin, Mei-Gui,Liu, Li-Ping,Li, Chen-Yin,Zhang, Meng,Chen, Yuling,Qin, Jian,Gu, Yue-Yu,Li, Zhi,Wu, Xin-Lin,Mo, Sui-Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Background and Aims: Scutellaria is one of the most popular traditional Chinese herbal remedies against various human diseases, including cancer. In this study, we examined the active effects of Scutellaria extract and its main flavonoid constituents on the proportion of side population cells within human multiple myeloma cell line RPMI8226 in vitro and explored the potential molecular mechanisms involved. Materials and Methods: The contents of flavonoids in ethanolic extract of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi were determined using high performance liquid chromatography. The antiproliferative effect of the ethanolic extract on RPMI-8226 was determined by CCK assay. Apoptosis was measured by annexin combining with propidium iodide in a flow cytometer. Cell cycle analysis was performed by propidium iodide staining in combination with flow cytometry analysis. Hoechst 33342 exclusion assay was used for the identification of side population within RPMI8226 cells. The expression of ABCG2 protein was assessed by Western blotting assay. Results: The content of major flavonoids constitutents of Scutellaria extract was baicalin (10.2%), wogonoside (2.50%), baicalein (2.29%), and wogonin (0.99%), respectively. The crude Scutellaria extract did not show significant anti-proliferative effect, apoptosis induction and cell cycle arrest in RPMI-8226 within the concentrations of $1-75{\mu}g/mL$. However, the ethanolic extract, baicalein, wogonin and baicalin reduced the side population cells in RPMI-8226, and data showed that baicalein and wogonin had stronger inhibitory effects. Correspondingly, they also exhibited significant effects on decreasing the expression level of ABCG2 protein in RPMI-8226 in vitro. Conclusions: Our results for the first time demonstrated a novel mechanism of action for Scutellaria extract and its main active flavonoids, namely targeting SP cells by modulating the expression of ABCG2 protein. This study provides an insight for new therapeutic strategies targeting cancer stem cells of multiple myeloma.

Clinical Microbiology and Biomedical Sciences : Construction and Characterization of an Enhanced GFP-Tagged TIM-1 Fusion Protein

( Ji Lin Qing ),( Hai Bing Xiao ),( Lin Zhao ),( Gui Fang Qin ),( Li Hua Hu ),( Zhi Zhong Chen ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2014 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.24 No.4

TIM-1 (also known as KIM-1 and HAVcr-1) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein member of the TIM family that may play important roles in innate and adaptive immune responses. The overexpression of proteins associated with membrane proteins is a major obstacle to overcome in studies of membrane protein structures and functions. In this study, we successfully coupled the overexpression of the TIM-1 protein with a C-terminal enhanced green fluorescent protein (GFP) tag in Escherichia coli. To the best of our knowledge, this report is the first to describe the overexpression of human TIM-1 in E. coli. The purified TIM-1-EGFP fusion protein recognized and bound directly to apoptotic cells and did not to bind to viable cells. Furthermore, we confirmed that the interactions of TIM-1-EGFP with apoptotic cells were blocked by TIM-1-Fc fusion proteins. This fusion protein represents a readily obtainable source of biologically active TIM-1 that may prove useful in future studies of human TIM-1.

Patient and Care Delays of Breast Cancer in China

        Yue-Lin Li,Ya-Chao Qin,Lu-Ying Tang,Yu-Huang Liao,Wei Zhang,Xiao-Ming Xie,Qiang Liu,Ying Lin,Ze-Fang Ren 대한암학회 2019 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.51 No.3

Purpose This study differentiates patient and care delays of breast cancer and explores the related factors as well as the associations with the prognosis in Guangzhou, a southern city of China. Materials and Methods A cohort of female incident breast cancer patients (n=1,551) was recruited from October 2008 to March 2012 and followed up until January 1, 2016 (n=1,374) in the affiliated hospitals of Sun Yat-sen University. The factors associated with patient and care delays were analyzed with multivariable logistic models. Cox proportional hazards regression models were constructed to estimate the impacts of the delays on the prognosis. Results There were 40.4% patient delay (! 3 months) and 15.5% care delay (! 1 month). The patient delay, but not the care delay, was significantly related to the clinical stage and consequently worsened the prognosis of breast cancer (hazard ratio, 1.45; 95% confidence interval, 1.09 to 1.91 for progression-free survival). The factors related to an increased patient delay included premenopausal status, history of benign breast disease, and less physical examination. Conclusion Patient delay was the main type of delay in Guangzhou and resulted in higher clinical stage and poor prognosis of breast cancer. Screening for breast cancer among premenopausal women may be an effective way to reduce this delay.
