Surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease in China: a systematic review of two decades

( Qiao Yu ),( Ren Mao ),( Lei Lian ),( Siew Chien Ng ),( Shenghong Zhang ),( Zhihui Chen ),( Yanyan Zhang ),( Yun Qiu ),( Baili Chen ),( Yao He ),( Zhirong Zeng ),( Shomron Ben-horin ),( Xinming Song 대한장연구학회 2016 Intestinal Research Vol.14 No.4

Background/Aims: The past decades have seen increasing incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in China. This article aimed to summarize the current status and characteristics of surgical management for IBD in China. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Chinese databases from January 1, 1990 to July 1, 2014 for all relevant studies on the surgical treatment IBD in China. Eligible studies with sufficient defined variables were further reviewed for primary and secondary outcome measures. Results: A total of 74 studies comprising 2,007 subjects with Crohn`s disease (CD) and 1,085 subjects with ulcerative colitis (UC) were included. The percentage of CD patients misdiagnosed before surgery, including misdiagnosis as appendicitis or UC, was 50.8%±30.9% (578/1,268). The overall postoperative complication rate was 22.3%±13.0% (267/1,501). For studies of UC, the overall postoperative complication rate was 22.2%±27.9% (176/725). In large research centers (n>50 surgical cases), the rates of emergency operations for CD (P =0.032) and in-hospital mortalities resulting from both CD and UC were much lower than those in smaller research centers (n≤50 surgical cases) (P =0.026 and P <0.001, respectively). Regarding the changes in CD and UC surgery over time, postoperative complications (P =0.045 for CD; P =0.020 for UC) and postoperative in-hospital mortality (P =0.0002 for CD; P =0.0160 for UC) both significantly improved after the year 2010. Conclusions: The surgical management of IBD in China has improved over time. However, the rates of misdiagnosis and postoperative complications over the past two decades have remained high. Large research centers were found to have relatively better capacity for surgical management than the smaller ones. Higher quality prospective studies are needed in China. No-reference Sharpness Index for Scanning Electron Microscopy Images Based on Dark Channel Prior

( Qiaoyue Li ),( Leida Li ),( Zhaolin Lu ),( Yu Zhou ),( Hancheng Zhu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.5

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image can link with the microscopic world through reflecting interaction between electrons and materials. The SEM images are easily subject to blurring distortions during the imaging process. Inspired by the fact that dark channel prior captures the changes to blurred SEM images caused by the blur process, we propose a method to evaluate the SEM images sharpness based on the dark channel prior. A SEM image database is first established with mean opinion score collected as ground truth. For the quality assessment of the SEM image, the dark channel map is generated. Since blurring is typically characterized by the spread of edge, edge of dark channel map is extracted. Then noise is removed by an edge-preserving filter. Finally, the maximum gradient and the average gradient of image are combined to generate the final sharpness score. The experimental results on the SEM blurred image database show that the proposed algorithm outperforms both the existing state-of-the-art image sharpness metrics and the general-purpose no-reference quality metrics.

ADD-Net : Attention Based 3D Dense Network for Action Recognition

        Qiaoyue Man,Young Im Cho(조영임) 한국컴퓨터정보학회 2019 韓國컴퓨터情報學會論文誌 Vol.24 No.6

Recent years with the development of artificial intelligence and the success of the deep model, they have been deployed in all fields of computer vision. Action recognition, as an important branch of human perception and computer vision system research, has attracted more and more attention. Action recognition is a challenging task due to the special complexity of human movement, the same movement may exist between multiple individuals. The human action exists as a continuous image frame in the video, so action recognition requires more computational power than processing static images. And the simple use of the CNN network cannot achieve the desired results. Recently, the attention model has achieved good results in computer vision and natural language processing. In particular, for video action classification, after adding the attention model, it is more effective to focus on motion features and improve performance. It intuitively explains which part the model attends to when making a particular decision, which is very helpful in real applications. In this paper, we proposed a 3D dense convolutional network based on attention mechanism(ADD-Net), recognition of human motion behavior in the video.

Coronary Artery Stenosis Quantification for Computed Tomography Angiography Based on Modified Student’s t-Mixture Model

        Qiaoyu Sun,Guanyu Yang,Huazhong Shu,Daming Shi 한국전자통신연구원 2017 ETRI Journal Vol.39 No.5

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of death in the world. As a non-invasive imaging modality, computed tomography angiography (CTA) is now usually used in clinical practice for CAD diagnosis. Precise quantification of coronary stenosis is of great interest for diagnosis and treatment planning. In this paper, a novel cluster method based on a Modified Student’s t-Mixture Model is applied to separate the region of vessel lumen from other tissues. Then, the area of the vessel lumen in each slice is computed and the estimated value of it is fitted with a curve. Finally, the location and the level of the most stenoses are captured by comparing the calculated and fitted areas of the vessel. The proposed method has been applied to 17 clinical CTA datasets and the results have been compared with reference standard degrees of stenosis defined by an expert. The results of the experiment indicate that the proposed method can accurately quantify the stenosis of the coronary artery in CTA.

Performance Analysis and System Design for Hierarchical Modulated BICM-ID

        Qiaoyu Li,Jun Zhang,Lin Bai,Jinho Choi IEEE 2014 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS Vol.13 No.6

Hierarchical modulation (HM) enables unequal priority transmissions using a signal constellation of non-uniformly spaced constellation points, which is an important property for broadcast systems. Using bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) and iterative decoding (ID), the performance of HM systems can be further improved. In this paper, we study HM system with BICM-ID or HM-BICM-ID. Since the performance of BICM-ID depends on signal mapping rules, we derive a mapping rule based on distance properties to minimize the bit error rate (BER). Furthermore, we perform the BER performance analysis for HM-BICM-ID based on binary erasure channel (BEC) modeling, which provides BER prediction without time-consuming simulations. Based on the derived BER prediction scheme, we can also perform system design and optimization for applications of HM-BICM-ID. For example, we are able to optimize the constellation priority parameter in a broadcast system to maximize the throughput.

Criteria of normality concerning the sequence of omitted functions

        Qiaoyu Chen,Jianming Qi 대한수학회 2016 대한수학회보 Vol.53 No.5

In this paper, we research the normality of sequences of meromorphic functions concerning the sequence of omitted functions. The main result is listed below. Let $\{f_{n}(z)\}$ be a sequence of functions meromorphic in $D$, the multiplicities of whose poles and zeros are no less than $k+2,~k\in \mathbb N$. Let $\{b_{n}(z)\}$ be a sequence of functions meromorphic in $D$, the multiplicities of whose poles are no less than $ k+1$, such that $b_{n}(z)\overset\chi\Rightarrow b(z)$, where $b(z)(\neq 0)$ is meromorphic in $D$. If $f^{(k)}_{n}(z)\ne b_{n}(z)$, then $\{f_{n}(z)\}$ is normal in $D$. And we give some examples to indicate that there are essential differences between the normal family concerning the sequence of omitted functions and the normal family concerning the omitted function. Moreover, the conditions in our paper are best possible.

Damage localization and quantification in beams from slope discontinuities in static deflections

Qiaoyu Ma,Mario Solís 국제구조공학회 2018 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.22 No.3

This paper presents a flexibility based method for damage identification from static measurements in beam-type structures. The response of the beam at the Damaged State is decomposed into the response at the Reference State plus the response at an Incremental State, which represents the effect of damage. The damage is localized by detecting slope discontinuities in the deflection of the structure at the Incremental State. A denoising filtering technique is applied to reduce the effect of experimental noise. The extent of the damage is estimated through comparing the experimental flexural stiffness of the damaged cross-sections with the corresponding values provided by analytical models of cracked beams. The paper illustrates the method by showing a numerical example with two cracks and an experimental case study of a simply supported steel beam with one artificially introduced notch type crack at three damage levels. A Digital Image Correlation system was used to accurately measure the deflections of the beam at a dense measurement grid under a set of point loads. The results indicate that the method can successfully detect and quantify a small damage from the experimental data.
