(Na0.5Bi0.5)0.93Ba0.07TiO3 ceramics with added 0-0.8 wt.% CoO were prepared by a citrate method and the influence of the CoO additive on the structure and electrical properties of the ceramics was investigated. All the specimens maintained a rhombohedral-tetragonal phase coexistence in crystal structure and the addition of CoO caused a remarkably promoted grain growth. Adding CoO led to a disappearance of the response in the dielectric constant (εr) to the ferroelectric-antiferroelectric transition and increased the diffuseness of the dielectric constant peak around 230oC. Polarization-electric field hysteresis loops at varied temperatures revealed that adding CoO served to increase the depolarization temperature (Td). The addition of CoO tailored the dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties at room temperature basically following a hard doped effect. The specimen with 0.8 wt.% CoO added showed a low dissipation factor (tanδ) of 0.8% and a high mechanical quality factor (Qm) of 297 while retaining a piezoelectric constant (d33) of 137 pC N-1.

The quenching effect of a distributed feedback dye laser is detail studied. In detail a simulation model of combined dye lasers relying on the rate equation system with both lasers having a common lasing medium is demonstrated. The calculation using this model for a dye material shows that single picosecond pulses are attained for a quenched distributed feedback laser (Q/DFDL) over a large lasing range of dye materials. The simulation results using pyrromethene 567 dye provided single pulses of 49 ps with high narrowband as could possibily be approached.

Purpose – As one of the most traded commodities in the world with tremendous economic significance, palm oil is an inexpensive source of oil. This paper examined and compared the palm oil trade performance of the Philippines relative to its top palm oil producing neighbors, Indonesia and Malaysia, by analyzing importexport volume trends of the said food commodity, consumption and production trends, self-sufficiency, import dependence, and shifting patterns of comparative advantage. Design/Methodology/Approach – Secondary data covering the period from 1964 through 2018 were collected from various sources, and descriptive analysis coupled with trend analysis were employed with respect to import and export, production, and consumption performance. Other trade indicators were computed, to wit: balance of trade, self-sufficiency ratio, import dependency ratio, and normalized trade balance. Implications were drawn after the comparative analysis among the three countries was done. Findings – An increase in the volume of the palm oil supply in the Philippines is evident, and this is attributed to increasing importation. Relative to Malaysia and Indonesia, the Philippines lags behind in international trade. While Philippine palm oil industry growth has been stagnant in terms of international trade by virtue of its net importer status, Malaysia and Indonesia have overtaken the country significantly, having attained selfsufficiency in the commodity with trade surpluses, and the gap is expected to widen in the coming years. It is interesting to note that the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia had identical production volumes and growth rates until the last decade of the 21st century. A steadily growing industry, palm oil is foreseen to continue being a vital industry, not only to top producing countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia but also in the Philippines, which is trying to improve its palm oil trade performance by expanding production. Research Implications – The study findings imply expansion and income opportunities not only for local oil palm producers, processors, and traders in the Philippines but also for foreign market entrants.

Influences of previous electrochemical corrosion and chemical corrosion in H2SO4aqueous solution on surface layer softeningduring electrochemical cold drawing (ECD) of Q235 steel bar were investigated. Results indicate that these two corrosionsall further soften the steel during the subsequent ECD and make the ECD to easier conduct, and the effect from the formercorrosion is larger than that from the latter one. Two modes of corrosion can slightly soften or plasticize the bar surfacelayer due to the increased vacancy clusters, but the contribution of this softening or plasticizing itself to the further softeningduring ECD is very limited, and the further softening should be mainly attributed to the relaxation of dislocations throughabsorbing the vacancy clusters and the resulted weakening of work hardening. The current applied during the electrochemicalcorrosion can promote more vacancy clusters to form in a deeper region beneath the bar surface, and thus the relaxingdegree for the dislocations and the influence region are larger than those from the chemical corrosion respectively, resultingin the greater softening.

Local buckling can be ignored for hot-rolled ordinary strength steel equal angle compression members, because the width-to-thickness ratios of the leg don’t exceed the limit value. With the development of steel structures, Q420 high strength steel angles with the nominal yield strength of 420 MPa have begun to be widely used in China. Because of the high strength, the limit value of the width-to-thickness ratio becomes smaller than that of ordinary steel strength, which causes that the width-to-thickness ratios of some hot-rolled steel angle sections exceed the limit value. Consequently, local buckling must be considered for 420 MPa steel equal angles under axial compression. The existing research on the local buckling of high strength steel members under axial compression is briefly summarized, and it shows that there is lack of study on the local buckling of high strength steel equal angles under axial compression. Aiming at the local buckling of high strength steel angles, this paper conducts an axial compression experiment of 420MPa high strength steel equal angles, including 15 stub columns. The test results are compared with the corresponding design methods in ANSI/AISC 360-05 and Eurocode 3. Then a finite element model is developed to analyze the local buckling behavior of high strength steel equal angles under axial compression, and validated by the test results. Followingthe validation, a finite element parametric study is conducted to study the influences of a range of parameters, and the analysis results are compared with the design strengths by ANSI/AISC 360-05 and Eurocode 3.

Aims: Potent antiviral treatment can reduce HCC incidence in CHB patients. TAF has shown antiviral efficacy similar to TDF, with higher rates of ALT normalization and no resistance in Phase 3 studies. We evaluated the impact of TAF or TDF on HCC in the ongoing Phase 3 studies. Methods: HBeAg-positive (n=1039) and -negative (n=593) patients with HBV DNA≥20,000 IU/mL and ALT >60 U/L (males) or >38 U/L (females) were recruited from 190 sites in 20 countries and randomized (2:1) to TAF or TDF. HCC was assessed at 6-monthly intervals by hepatic ultrasonography introduced after Week 96 and throughout by local standards of care. The standardized incidence ratio (SIR) for HCC was calculated for observed cases relative to predicted risk using the REACH-B model. Results: Through 5 years of follow-up, HCC occurred in 21 patients (1.0% [11/1,093] with TAF, 1.9% [10/539] with TDF). Median (Q1, Q3) time to HCC onset was 104 (55, 191) weeks. At baseline, relative to those without HCC, patients with HCC were more likely to be older (median age 53 vs 39y; P<0.001), male (90% vs 65%; P=0.014), and cirrhotic (FibroTest ³0.75; 33% vs 9%; P<0.001). The overall SIR was significantly reduced with TAF or TDF (SIR 0.42, 95% CI 0.27-0.64). HCC incidence was significantly reduced in noncirrhotic patients (SIR 0.37, 95% CI 0.22 to 0.63), and in patients receiving TAF (SIR 0.35, 95% CI 0.19-0.62). Lack of ALT normalization at Week 24 (HR 6.90; P=0.011), cirrhosis (HR 4.18; P=0.006), baseline HBsAg level (HR 0.53; P=0.006), and baseline hypertension (HR 5.55; P<0.001) were significant predictors of HCC development by multivariable analysis. Conclusions: In CHB patients receiving TAF or TDF, the incidence of HCC was reduced comparing with expected HCC incidence from REACH-B model. In patients treated with TAF, a significant reduction in SIR was seen, whereas those treated with TDF showed a trend toward a reduction.
