• An On-Chip Network Fabric Supporting Coarse-Grained Processor Array

        Phi-Hung Pham,Phuong Mau,Jungmoon Kim,Chulwoo Kim IEEE 2013 IEEE transactions on very large scale integration Vol.21 No.1

Coarse grained arrays (CGAs) with run-time reconfigurability play an important role in accelerating reconfigurable computing applications. It is challenging to design on-chip communication networks (OCNs) for such CGAs with dynamic run-time reconfigurability whilst satisfying the tight budgets of power and area for an embedded system. This paper presents a silicon-proven design of a 64-PE circuit-switched OCN fabric with a dynamic path-setup scheme capable of supporting an embedded coarse-grained processor array. A proof-of-concept test chip fabricated in a 0.13 μm CMOS process occupies a silicon area of 23 mm2 and consumes a peak power of 200 mW @ 128 MHz and 1.2 Vcc, at room temperature. The OCN overhead consumes 9.4% of the area and 18% of the power of the total chip. Experimental results and analysis show that the proposed OCN fabric with its dynamic path-setup is suitable for use in an embedded CGA supporting fast run-time reconfigurability.

      • Design and Implementation of an On-Chip Permutation Network for Multiprocessor System-On-Chip

        Phi-Hung Pham,Junyoung Song,Jongsun Park,Chulwoo Kim IEEE 2013 IEEE transactions on very large scale integration Vol.21 No.1

This paper presents the silicon-proven design of a novel on-chip network to support guaranteed traffic permutation in multiprocessor system-on-chip applications. The proposed network employs a pipelined circuit-switching approach combined with a dynamic path-setup scheme under a multistage network topology. The dynamic path-setup scheme enables runtime path arrangement for arbitrary traffic permutations. The circuit-switching approach offers a guarantee of permuted data and its compact overhead enables the benefit of stacking multiple networks. A 0.13-μ m CMOS test-chip validates the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed design. Experimental results show that the proposed on-chip network achieves 1.9× to 8.2× reduction of silicon overhead compared to other design approaches.

Design and Implementation of Backtracking Wave-Pipeline Switch to Support Guaranteed Throughput in Network-on-Chip

        Phi-Hung Pham,Jongsun Park,Phuong Mau,Chulwoo Kim IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on very large scale integration Vol.20 No.2

It is a challenging task in a network-on-chip to design an on-chip switch/router to dynamically support (hard) guaranteed throughput under very tight on-chip constraints of power, timing, area, and time-to-market. This paper presents the design and implementation of a novel pipeline circuit-switched switch to support guaranteed throughput. The proposed circuit-switched switch, based on a backtracking probing path setup, operates with a source-synchronous wave-pipeline approach. The switch can support a dead- and live-lock free dynamic path-setup scheme and can achieve high bandwidth and high area and energy efficiency. A silicon-proven prototype of a 16-bit-data 5-bidirectional-port switch in a four-metal-layer 0.18-μ m CMOS standard-cell technology can yield an aggregate data bandwidth of up to 73.84 Gb/s, while occupying only a modest area of 0.0315 mm2. The synthesizable implementation of the proposed switch also results in a cost-effective design, fast development time, and portability.

A Grey MCDM Based on DEMATEL Model for Real Estate Evaluation and Selection Problems: A Numerical Example

        Phi-Hung NGUYEN,Jung-Fa TSAI,Thanh-Tam NGUYEN,Thi-Giang NGUYEN,Dang-Duong VU 한국유통과학회 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.11

Real estate markets play an essential role in the economic development of both developed and developing countries. Investment decisions in private real estate demand the consideration of several qualitative and quantitative criteria. Especially in Vietnam, demand for housing, apartments are rising which has resulted because of the migration from rural to urban areas. This study aims to determine the influencing factors of the real estate purchasing behavior and then recommend a grey Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) support model to evaluate real estate alternatives based on a numerical example in Vietnam. A set of essential criteria are identified based on experts’ opinion, and the proposed determinants are initial investment, maintenance cost, prestige location, distance to interesting places, parking lot, public transportation, property condition, total area size, number of rooms, and neighbors. The subjective weights were obtained by using the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) model, and the Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) technique is employed to prioritize and rank real estate alternatives. The results reveal that this approach can be useful to make purchasing decisions for many kinds of real estate property under uncertain business environments. These findings indicate that the presented hybrid model has advantages in granting flexibility to the preferences of decision makers.

Antithrombotic Phenolics from the Stems of Parthenocissus tricuspidata Possess Anti-inflammatory Effect

        Phi-Hung Nguyen,Bing Tian Zhao,이정형,김영호,민병선,우미희 대한화학회 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.6

In the course of our program to search for antithrombotic and anti-inflammatory agents from plants, twelve phenolics (1–12) were isolated from the stems of Parthenocissus tricuspidata. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic (1D and 2D NMR, and MS) data analyses, and comparison with published data. At the concentration of 100 μg/mL, compounds 2, 4, 6 and 10 possessed potential effects on anti-blood coagulation, with inhibitory percentage of 216, 174, 148 and 225%, respectively; while aspirin used as positive control showed 181% inhibition at the same concentration. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory activity of isolated compounds (1–12) was investigated on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced murine macrophage cells (RAW264.7). Compounds 2, 4 and 6 also potential inhibited the production of nitric oxide, with IC50 values of 11.9 ± 0.3, 2.9 ± 0.2 and 29.0 ± 0.6 μM, respectively. Celastrol, the positive control used, gave an IC50 value of 1.0 ± 0.1 μM.

Protective effects of extract of Cleistocalyx operculatus flower buds and its isolated major constituent against LPS-induced endotoxic shock by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway

        Tran, Phi-Long,Kim, Okwha,Tran, Huynh Nguyen Khanh,Tran, Manh Hung,Min, Byung-Sun,Hwangbo, Cheol,Lee, Jeong-Hyung Elsevier 2019 Food and chemical toxicology Vol.129 No.-

Abstract

The flower buds of Cleistocalyx operculatus are used as an important ingredient in herbal tea and herbal products in several tropical countries. However, their protective effects and underlying mechanisms on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced endotoxic shock remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of ethanol extract of C. operculatus flower buds (ECO) and its major constituent 2′,4′-dihydroxy-6′-methoxy-3′,5′-dimethylchalcone (DMC) in macrophages and in an experimental LPS-induced sepsis mouse model. ECO inhibited the LPS-induced production and expression of pro-inflammatory mediators in macrophages. In an endotoxic shock mouse model, the oral administration of ECO rescued LPS-induced mortality, and attenuated LPS-induced increases in the serum levels of pro-inflammatory mediators, and damage of the lung and liver tissues. ECO increased the nuclear translocation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), as well as the expression of Nrf2 target genes, including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), in macrophages. Similar to the effects of ECO, DMC also inhibited the LPS-induced inflammatory response in macrophages and endotoxic shock in mice, and activated the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. In conclusion, our findings suggested that ECO and its major constituent, DMC, attenuated LPS-induced endotoxic shock by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.

Highlights

The flower buds of Cleistocalyx operculatus are used as an ingredient in herbal products in several tropical countries.

The anti-inflammatory effects of C. operculatus flower buds (ECO) and its major constituent DMC are demonstrated.

ECO and DMC attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory response in macrophages and endotoxic shock in mice.

The Nrf2/HO-1 pathway is attributable to the anti-inflammatory properties of ECO and DMC in macrophages.

The mechanism explains the anti-inflammatory effects of ECO and DMC.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Assessing the Unemployment Problem Using A Grey MCDM Model under COVID-19 Impacts: A Case Analysis from Vietnam

NGUYEN, Phi-Hung,TSAI, Jung-Fa,NGUYEN, Hong-Phuc,NGUYEN, Viet-Trang,DAO, Trong-Khoi Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.12

The COVID 19 pandemic has led to a new global recession and is still causing a lot of issues because of the delays in the employment of people. This scenario has severe consequences for many countries' labor markets in the world. This problem's complexity and importance requires an integrated method of subjective and objective evaluation rather than intuitive decisions. This research aims to investigate sustainable indexes for assessing the unemployment problem by using a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Model (MCDM). Grey theory and Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (GDEMATEL) are deployed to transform the experts' opinions into quantitative data. The analysis based on 20 crucial criteria is employed to determine the weights of sustainability of unemployment problems. The results revealed that the top ten of determinants are Economic growth, Industrialization, Foreign direct investment, Real GDP per capita, Education level, Trade Openness, Capacity Utilization Rate, Urbanization, Employability skills, Education system expansion, which have the most significant effects on the unemployment rate under COVID 19 impacts. Furthermore, GDEMATEL could effectively assess the sustainable indicators for unemployment problems in "deep and wide" aspects. The study proposes the Grey MCDM model, contributes to the literature, provides future research directions, and helps policymakers and researchers achieve the best solutions to the unemployment problems under "economic shocks."

A Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) Based on SERVQUAL for Hotel Service Quality Management: Evidence from Vietnam

NGUYEN, Phi-Hung Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.2

Nowadays, quality affects product or service performance and customer loyalty in the competitive business' environment. This is truly important when it comes to how the customer interprets the service's satisfaction and the judgment of the purchase process as a whole, in view of the fact that service quality is an abstract and elusive construction due to the three characteristics of services: intangibility, heterogeneity, and inseparability of output and consumption. The main purpose of this paper is to determine the hotel service quality using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and SERVQUAL method. In this study, a five-star hotel's real case is considered in evaluating the service quality criteria. The results revealed that Tangibles and Assurance are the most critical service quality criteria in the hotel industry. Accurate records, service consistency, Necessary arrangements for disabled people, Service flexibility to guests' demands, and Providing the services at the time it promises are the most influencing sub-criteria of service quality. These findings indicate that hotels should concentrate on sequentially and organized priority factors to enhance service quality. This method of service quality assessment may also aid in distinguishing between hotels. Finally, as a future direction, more additional parameters can be used as a potential guide in our proposed model for the dynamic decision-making approach.

Antithrombotic and antidiabetic flavonoid glycosides from the grains of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench var. hwanggeumchal.

Nguyen, Phi-Hung,Dung, Vu Viet,Zhao, Bing Tian,Kim, Young Ho,Min, Byung Sun,Woo, Mi Hee Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 2014 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.37 No.11

A phytochemical study of the grains of S. bicolor, resulting in the isolation of twelve flavonoid glycosides 1-12. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic (1D and 2D NMR) and MS data analyses. All compounds were tested on thrombin time (TT) assay and α-glucosidase assay in order to assess their inhibitory effects on blood coagulation and α-glucosidase enzyme. At the concentration of 500 μg/mL, compounds 3, 4, 7 and 10 possessed the potential effects on blood coagulation with inhibitory percentage of 197, 152, 120 and 158 %, respectively, whereas aspirin, which used as a positive control, indicated 181 and 138 % inhibition at 500 and 375 μg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, compounds 3, 4, 7, 9 and 10 also displayed strong inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase enzyme, with 85.2, 55.7, 43.9, 52.7 and 65.2 % inhibition at 100 μg/mL, respectively, whereas acarbose, as a positive control, possessed only 38.7 % at the same concentration. Taken together, our data suggest that S. bicolor and its flavonoid-enrich extracts could be considered as supplemental and or functional foods having beneficial effects against blood coagulation-induced ischemia, possibly thromboembolism disease, as well as diabetes.
