A new cicada genus, Cantata Lee & Pham gen. nov., is erected in the subtribe Aolina Boulard, 2012, with the designations of Cantata phiaoacensis Lee & Pham sp. nov. as its type species. This new genus is morphologically similar to Meimuna Distant, 1905 but distinguished from Meimuna mainly by the absence of the extended base of uncus, the presence of the basal lobe of male pygofer, the shape of the uncal lobes, and the presence of the fore wing infuscations. Cantata phiaoacensis Lee & Pham sp. nov. is described from Phia Oac – Phia Den National Park, Cao Bang province in northern Vietnam. A distribution map and biological data for Cantata phiaoacensis are provided. A key to the genera and the species groups of Aolina is provided.

This paper provides an original contribution concerning the influence of microcredit on child school dropout rates in the poorest regions in Vietnam. Two crucial empirical problems for the linkage between microfinance and children’s education are sample selection bias and the endogeneity of microcredit. Using a combination of the instrumental variable method and the Heckman approach to overcome these problems, the finding is that microcredit increases the opportunity for households to send their children to school through two main channels-increasing household per capita income and moving households out of poverty. Regarding traditional characteristics, we indicate that in a larger household size, there is a higher probability of children aged 6-14 dropping out of school, increasing the number of days per month away from school for children in such a household. In addition, the age and education of the household head have a negative association with the child school dropout rate. Furthermore, it is not surprising that households with larger agricultural lands are more likely to send their children to school and children in such households are less likely to work, suggesting that better endowment may support child education and reduce child labor.

Vietanna Lee & Pham, gen. nov. and Vietanna hanoiensis Pham & Lee, sp. nov. are described based on a cicada specimen from Hanoi, Vietnam and placed in the subtribe Leptopsaltriina Moulton, 1923 of the tribe Leptop saltriini Moulton, 1923 in the subfamily Cicadinae Latreille, 1802 (Hemiptera: Cicadidae). This new genus is morphologically similar to Tanna Distant, 1905 but distinguished from Tanna by the timbal cover exposing the inner part of timbal, the male abdominal epipleurite 3 with a distinct oblique linear fold, the male abdominal sternites without tubercle-like projections, and the aedeagus bifurcate at the apex. A key to the genera of Lep topsaltriina is provided.

Although country-of-origin has been a controversial topic in literature, there has been little research effort to explain the nature linkage between country-of-origin and perceived quality from consumers in emerging markets. Drawing on the notion of country-of-origin, this study proposes the concept of product-country-image which is operationalized with the three components of cognitive, affective and conative. Structural equation modeling is employed to explore the relationship between the product-country-image and perceived quality. The findings indicate that only ‘affective components’ are positively related to ‘conative components’ among three pairs. What is more, structural equitation modeling demonstrated that the influence of product-country image on perceived quality is simultaneously regardless of the level of consumers’ familiarity with a foreign country’s product. Using data collected from 348 Vietnamese consumers, this study generates new insights for academics and practitioners.

Objectives: Online misinformation has reached unprecedented levels during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study analyzed the magnitude and sentiment dynamics of misinformation and unverified information about public health interventions during a COVID-19 outbreak in Da Nang, Vietnam, between July and September 2020. Methods: We analyzed user-generated online information about five public health interventions during the Da Nang outbreak. We compared the volume, source, sentiment polarity, and engagements of online posts before, during, and after the outbreak using negative binomial and logistic regression, and assessed the content validity of the 500 most influential posts. Results: Most of the 54,528 online posts included were generated during the outbreak (n = 46,035; 84.42%) and by online newspapers (n = 32,034; 58.75%). Among the 500 most influential posts, 316 (63.20%) contained genuine information, 10 (2.00%) contained misinformation, 152 (30.40%) were non-factual opinions, and 22 (4.40%) contained unverifiable information. All misinformation posts were made during the outbreak, mostly on social media, and were predominantly negative. Higher levels of engagement were observed for information that was unverifiable (incidence relative risk [IRR] = 2.83; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.33–0.62), posted during the outbreak (before: IRR = 0.15; 95% CI, 0.07–0.35; after: IRR = 0.46; 95% CI, 0.34-0.63), and with negative sentiment (IRR = 1.84; 95% CI, 1.23–2.75). Negatively toned posts were more likely to be misinformation (odds ratio [OR] = 9.59; 95% CI, 1.20–76.70) or unverified (OR = 5.03; 95% CI, 1.66–15.24). Conclusions: Misinformation and unverified information during the outbreak showed clustering, with social media being particularly affected. This indepth assessment demonstrates the value of analyzing online “infodemics” to inform public health responses.

Nanocomposites containing two or more functional constituents are attractive candidates for advanced nanomaterials. In this study, multifunctional Ag/Fe3O4-CS nanocomposites were successfully prepared, using chitosan as a stabilizing and cross-linking agent. The as-synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), UVevisible spectrophotometer (UVeVis) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results demonstrated that Ag/Fe3O4-CS composite nanoparticles (NPs) were composed of parent components, Fe3O4 and Ag NPs, which were uniformly dispersed in the chitosan matrix. The hybrid NPs exhibited strong antibacterial property against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. With high magnetization value (67 emu/g), the synthesized Ag/Fe3O4-CS composite can be easily separated or recycled in potential biomedical applications. Furthermore, the results showed that the multicomponent hybrid nanostructures appeared to be the promising material for local hyperthermia, which can be used as thermoseeds for localized hyperthermia treatment of cancers.

Compsilura concinnata (Meigen) is one of the most famous, most polyphagous and most widely distributed tachinid flies (Diptera, Tachinidae) in the world. This species is well known as a biocontrol agent of some injurious pests of cultural and wild plants and has been introduced from Europe to the United States to control mainly the gypsy moth. Recently we found three new species very closely resembling C. concinnata from Southeast and East Asia: C. lobata sp. nov. (Japan and Thailand), C. malayana sp. nov. (Malaysia) and C. pauciseta sp. nov. (Japan and Taiwan). Additionally, C. samoaensis Malloch is treated as a junior synonym of C. concinnata based on the examination of the type specimen. The genetic differences in the mitochondrial COI gene data are examined to assess the accuracy of species delimitation of Compsilura. The male postabdominal characters of these species are illustrated. The piercing female postabdomen of C. concinnata is illustrated and compared to those of other members belonging to the Blondelia group including Blondelia Robineau-Desvoidy, Celatoria Coquillett, Eucelatoria Townsend and Vibrissina Rondani.
