A framework for structural reliability analysis based on conjugate sensitivity factor and saddlepoint approximation

Peng Huang,Hong-Zhong Huang,Tudi Huang,Hua-Ming Qian 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.9

A new structural reliability analysis framework is developed to extend the performance of first-order reliability method, which is low robustness and poor accuracy when dealing with highly nonlinear functions. Initially, an improved conjugate sensitivity factor method is proposed to find the most probable point. The method enhances its robustness of convergence by introducing a conjugate gradient direction based sensitivity factor technique and improves its computational efficiency by putting forward a hybrid conjugate gradient factor and an adaptive step length strategy. Subsequently, the dimension reduction-based saddlepoint approximation method is developed, which uses the dimension reduction approach to construct the limit state function as the additive univariate quadratic functions and applies saddlepoint approximation to obtain the result with higher precision. A comparison analysis from five mathematical and structural examples illustrates that the proposed method is better than most existing methods in terms of robustness, efficiency and accuracy for estimating the failure probability of structures.

Breviscapine Ameliorates Fear Extinction and Anxiety in BALB/cJ Mice

        Wei Liang(Wei Liang),Jing Huang(Jing Huang),Shuya Yang(Shuya Yang),Peng Huang(Peng Huang),Jun Chen(Jun Chen),Chen Chen(Chen Chen),Qun Yang(Qun Yang),Fengzhan Li(Fengzhan Li) 대한신경정신의학회 2023 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.20 No.3

Objective In this research, the influence of breviscapine on anxiety, fear elimination, and aggression and the potential mechanism was investigated. Methods Anxiety and locomotion were analyzed by elevated plus maze and open field test in mice. Bussey-Saksida Mouse Touch Screen Chambers were used to perform fear conditioning. Territorial aggression was assessed by resident intruder test. Protein levels were evaluated by Western blot. Breviscapine improved fear-extinction learning in BALB/cJ mice. Results Breviscapine at 20-100 mg/kg increased center cross number, total distance traveled, and velocity in a dose-dependent manner. On the other hand, breviscapine at 20-100 mg/kg decreased the immobility time in open field test. In addition, breviscapine at 20-100 mg/kg increased the ratio of time on the open arm, time on the distal parts of the open arm, and total distance traveled in elevated plus maze. Breviscapine at 100 mg/kg increased the average attack latency and decreased the number of attacks over the last 3 days of resident intruder test. In hippocampus, protein levels of postsynaptic density protein-95 and synaptophysin were elevated by breviscapine at these three doses. Conclusion The administration of breviscapine alleviates fear extinction, anxiety, and aggression, while increases locomotor in a dose-dependent manner, which might be associated with its influence on synaptic function.

Efficient Scheme for Secret Hiding in QR Code by Improving Exploiting Modification Direction

        ( Peng-cheng Huang ),( Yung-hui Li ),( Chin-chen Chang ),( Yanjun Liu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.5

QR codes as public patent are widely used to acquire the information in various fields. However, it faces security problem when delivering the privacy message by QR code. To overcome this weakness, we propose a secret hiding scheme by improving exploiting modification direction to protect the private message in QR code. The secret messages will be converted into octal digit stream and concealed to the cover QR code by overwriting the cover QR code public message bits. And the private messages can be faithfully decoded using the extraction function. In our secret hiding scheme, the QR code public message still can be fully decoded publicly from the marked QR codes via any standard QR Code reader, which helps to reduce attackers’ curiosity. Experiments show that the proposed scheme is feasible, with high secret payload, high security protection level, and resistant to common image post-processing attacks.

Numerical simulation of 3-D probabilistic trajectory of plate-type wind-borne debris

        Huang, Peng,Wang, Feng,Fu, Anmin,Gu, Ming Techno-Press 2016 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.22 No.1

To address the uncertainty of the flight trajectories caused by the turbulence and gustiness of the wind field over the roof and in the wake of a building, a 3-D probabilistic trajectory model of flat-type wind-borne debris is developed in this study. The core of this methodology is a 6 degree-of-freedom deterministic model, derived from the governing equations of motion of the debris, and a Monte Carlo simulation engine used to account for the uncertainty resulting from vertical and lateral gust wind velocity components. The influence of several parameters, including initial wind speed, time step, gust sampling frequency, number of Monte Carlo simulations, and the extreme gust factor, on the accuracy of the proposed model is examined. For the purpose of validation and calibration, the simulated results from the 3-D probabilistic trajectory model are compared against the available wind tunnel test data. Results show that the maximum relative error between the simulated and wind tunnel test results of the average longitudinal position is about 20%, implying that the probabilistic model provides a reliable and effective means to predict the 3-D flight of the plate-type wind-borne debris.

Experimental study and FE analysis of tile roofs under simulated strong wind impact

Peng Huang,Huatan Lin,Feng Hu,Ming Gu 한국풍공학회 2018 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.26 No.2

A large number of low-rise buildings experienced serious roof covering failures under strong wind while few suffered structural damage. Clay and concrete tiles are two main kinds of roof covering. For the tile roof system, few researches were carried out based on Finite Element (FE) analysis due to the difficulty in the simulation of the interface between the tiles and the roof sheathing (the bonding materials, foam or mortar). In this paper, the FE analysis of a single clay or concrete tile with foam-set or mortar-set were built with the interface simulated by the equivalent nonlinear springs based on the mechanical uplift and displacement tests, and they were expanded into the whole roof. A detailed wind tunnel test was carried out at Tongji University to acquire the wind loads on these two kinds of roof tiles, and then the test data were fed into the FE analysis. For the purpose of validation and calibration, the results of FE analysis were compared with the full-scale performance of the tile roofs under simulated strong wind impact through one-of-a-kind Wall of Wind (WoW) apparatus at Florida International University. The results are consistent with the WoW test that the roof of concrete tiles with mortar-set provided the highest resistance, and the material defects or improper construction practices are the key factors to induce the roof tiles\' failure. Meanwhile, the staggered setting of concrete tiles would help develop an interlocking mechanism between the tiles and increase their resistance.

Development of devices and methods for simulation of hurricane winds in a full-scale testing facility

Peng Huang,Arindam Gan Chowdhury,Girma Bitsuamlak,Roy Liu 한국풍공학회 2009 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.12 No.2

The International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) at Florida International University (FIU) is pursuing research to better understand hurricane-induced effects on residential buildings and other structures through full-scale aerodynamic and destructive testing. The full-scale 6-fan Wall of Wind (WoW) testing apparatus, measuring 4.9 m tall by 7.3 m wide, is capable of generating hurricane-force winds. To achieve windstorm simulation capabilities it is necessary to reproduce mean and turbulence characteristics of hurricane wind flows. Without devices and methods developed to achieve target wind flows, the full-scale WoW simulations were found to be unsatisfactory. To develop such devices and methods efficiently, a small-scale (1:8) model of the WoW was built, for which simulation devices were easier and faster to install and change, and running costs were greatly reduced. The application of such devices, and the use of quasiperiodic fluctuating waveforms to run the WoW fan engines, were found to greatly influence and improve the turbulence characteristics of the 1:8 scale WoW flow. Reasonable reproductions of wind flows with specified characteristics were then achieved by applying to the full-scale WoW the devices and methods found to be effective for the 1:8 scale WoW model.

        “谣言”对中国消费者购买韩国商品的影响研究: 基于感知价值模型

Huang Peng,Zhang Wei Lin 부산대학교 중국연구소 2018 Journal of China Studies Vol.21 No.3

The share of Korean products in the Chinese market has declined since 2016, with the Samsung mobile and Hyundai motor having lost more than 60% of their share than the apex by the end of 2017. Meanwhile, the same is true for the household appliances, cosmetics and food. The reasons for the weakness of Korean products in the Chinese market include the competition of others brands, pricing strategy mistakes and the Chinese media's Biased reports on Korean products and South Korea. According to some symbolic events, there are two types of rumors that affect Korean brands in the Chinese market: one is directly related to the product, the other is unrelated to the product. Therefore, to analyze the market problems of Korean products in China, it is necessary to explore the intrinsic mechanism of market rumors affecting Chinese consumers' judgment of the value of Korean products from the perspective of Chinese consumers This study starting with the sensitivity of consumers to market rumors which based on the theoretical model of perceived value discusses the rumor sensitivity of Chinese consumers, under the rumor environment and its impact on evaluating the value of Korean products. The analysis of 5 consumers' interviews and 399 effective questionnaires revealed that 72.3% of Chinese consumers showed high rumor sensitivity tendency. Through regression analysis, intermediary effect and adjustment effect analysis, we get the following three conclusions: (1) Chinese consumers will be more likely to evaluate the quality of products from the inherent attributes of the products, and the labeling of origin is being weakened. (2) Chinese consumers are more inclined to choose products with high cost performance ratio, so they no longer think that the high price of Korean products represents high quality. (3) When Chinese consumers evaluate Korean products, market rumors directly affect the subjective quality perception of Chinese consumers. Accordingly, this study suggests that the key of Korean products is to win the Chinese consumers’ approval of the objective attributes of Korean products by the way of enhancing the product force. On this basis, we can take the subsidiary of Korean company in China as the main body that develop the local brands with different pricing strategy in order to eliminate the problem of the decline of market share caused by rumors that about Korean.
