Chronic neutrophilic leukemia is a very rare myeloproliferative disorder which is characterized by severe sustained mature neutrophilic leukocytosis in peripheral blood (PB), hepatosplenomegaly, elevated leukocyte alkaline phosphatase, serum uric acid. serun viatmin B 12 and the bleeding tendency despite normal platelet count and coagulation time, absence of philadelphia chromosome, and the absence of fever or underlying infection or disease sufficient to mimic a leukemoid reaction. We have experienced a 34-years-old male patient with atypical chronic neutrophilic leukemia. On admission, the leukocyte count was 56,860/uL. severe neutrophic leukocytosis with 76% neutrophils and rare immature forms on PB smear. Many neutrophils had toxic granules, and vacuoloes. Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase score was decreased. The cytogenetic study showed Philadelphia chromosome negative with normal karyotype.

이 연구는 초등학교 고학년을 위한 자기부상열차 만들기 체험활동 중심의 MST통합교육 프로그램을 개발하는데 있다. 이 연구는 개발 연구로서 설문 조사와 예비/현장 시험을 병행하여 이루어졌다. 그리고 개발 절차는 준비 단계, 개발 단계, 개선 단계의 과정을 거쳤다. 준비 단계에서는 문헌 연구를 통하여 교과의 요구 분석, 학습자의 요구 분석, 사회의 요구 분석을 하였다. 개발 단계에서는 초등학교 고학년을 위한 자기부상열차 만들기 체험활동 중심의 MST통합교육 프로그램을 교실 수업에서 활용하기 위한 설계 개요, 교사 지침서, 학생 활동 자료를 개발하였다. 설계 개요는 상황, 문제, 설계 제한점, 체험 학습, 문서화로 구성하였다. 교사 지침서는 모범적 해결책, 프로그램 목표, 응용 목록, 수업계열, 활동 단계, 학생 활동의 계열, 도입, 용어 해석, 자료 목록을 개발하였다. 학생 활동 자료는 학생들의 활동 지침서로서 수학․과학․기술교육의 내용을 체험활동을 중심으로 세 교과의 내용이 상호작용되도록 하였다. 개선 단계에서는 프로그램을 초등학생들을 대상으로 예비시험을 실시하고 그 결과에 따라서 수정․보완하였다.

<P>Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) is a condition of sublethal transient global ischemia and exhibits neuroprotective effects against subsequent lethal ischemic insult. We, in this study, examined the neuroprotective effects of IPC and its effects on immunoreactive changes of antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase (SOD) 1 and SOD2, catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 region after transient forebrain ischemia. Pyramidal neurons of the stratum pyramidale (SP) in the hippocampal CA1 region of animals died 5 days after lethal transient ischemia without IPC (8.6% (ratio of remanent neurons) of the sham-operated group); however, IPC prevented the pyramidal neurons from subsequent lethal ischemic injury (92.3% (ratio of remanent neurons) of the sham-operated group). SOD1, SOD2, CAT and GPX immunoreactivities in the sham-operated animals were easily detected in pyramidal neurons in the stratum pyramidale (SP) of the hippocampal CA1 region, while all of these immunoreactivities were rarely detected in the stratum pyramidale at 5 days after lethal transient ischemia without IPC. Meanwhile, their immunoreactivities in the sham-operated animals with IPC were similar to (SOD1, SOD2 and CAT) or higher (GPX) than those in the sham-operated animals without IPC. Furthermore, their immunoreactivities in the stratum pyramidale of the ischemia-operated animals with IPC were steadily maintained after lethal ischemia/reperfusion. Results of western blot analysis for SOD1, SOD2, CAT and GPX were similar to immunohistochemical data. In conclusion, IPC maintained or increased the expression of antioxidant enzymes in the stratum pyramidale of the hippocampal CA1 region after subsequent lethal transient forebrain ischemia and IPC exhibited neuroprotective effects in the hippocampal CA1 region against transient forebrain ischemia.</P>

The old city center of Gwang-yang town was formed from Gwanyangeupseong Fortress. Currently, urban decline phenomenon has been arisen from a decrease in population and growth of unoccupied houses. As a result, Priority Projects for Urban Regeneration of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport is in motion. ‘Han-Ok’ and ‘Alley’ are clearly shown that the change of residential area and a life history of Gwang-yang town. However, the Han-Ok were worn out and allies lost vitality. And the deterioration of housing accelerates the decline of this area. Thus, the purpose of this study is to set up the direction of regeneration through searching the characteristic and present condition of this area. The results is as follows: 1) The urban tissue of residential area in the old city center has been maintained so far and Han-Ok still survive. 2) There are several type of Han-Ok such as southern style folk house, 1970‘s and 80’s improvement one and extended Han-Ok. 3) Han-Ok is generally getting worn out and there is concerned about exacerbating housing problem in high dense Han-Ok area on a narrow through alley. In the current trend continues, it will be obvious that Han-Ok as cultural heritage of community are going to be disappeared and entire living condition is getting worse. Thus, Gwang-yang regeneration should be going to start from the idea that conservation and application of Han-Ok and allies which are distributed in this area.

N/A Objectives: Patients with chronic liver disease are at increased risk to develop metabolic bone disease. Although the etiology of the osteopathy in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis has not been defined, vitamin D deficiency and calcium malabsorption have been suggested as possible pathogenetic factors. In Korea, Patients with postnecrotic liver cirrhosis due to chronic hepatitis B are numerous, however, data on the prevalence and severity of osteopenia in these patient are rare. This study was performed to elucidate the mechanism of osteopenia and to examine its severity in postnecrotic liver cirrhosis. Methods: Thirty four patients with postnecrotic liver cirrhosis and thirty controls matched in age and sex were included in this study group. To obtain bone mineral density of lumbar spines in postnecrotic liver cirrhosis and control groups, measurements and comparisons of following tests were performed: Dual energy xray absorptimetry, serum calcium, serum osteocalcin, and serum 25 (OH) vitamin D. In addition, initial morning urine sample was collected to measure pyridinoline crosslinks. Results: 1) The average bone density of lumbar spines was 1.03±0.03 gm/cm² in postnecrotic liver cirrhosis group and 1.15±0.02 gm/cm² in normal controls (p<0.01). 2) The prevalence of osteopenia in the lumbar spine was 50% in postnecrotic cirrhotics compaired to 13% in controls. 3) The levels of serum calcium, 25 (OH) vitamin D and serum osteocalcin were 2.12±0.04 mmol/L, 7.38±1.00 ng/ml and 1.92±0.18 ng/ml in postnecrotic liver cirrhosis, 2.54±0.05 mmol/L and 21.68±1.90 ng/ml and 3.31±0.31 ng/ml in control group (p<0.05). 4) The levels of urinary pyridinoline crosslinks in postnecrotic liver cirrhosis and control were 82.87±7.50 nM/mM and 43.48±3.52 nM/mM, respectively (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that the incidence of lumbar osteopenia is more common in postnecrotic liver cirrhosis patients. In addition, its pathogenesis is related to vitamin D deficiency, decreased osteoblastic activity, and increased osteoclastic activity. Further studies including several hormones and histopathology of bones are needed to clearly define the mechanisms of osteopenia in postnecrotic liver cirrhosis.
Robust Crosswalk Detection Technique Based on Binary Pattern Features

Crosswalk detection is an important part of the Pedestrian Protection System (PPS) in autonomous vehicles. Different methods of crosswalk detection have been introduced so far using crosswalk edge features, the distance between crosswalk blocks, laser scanning, and Fourier Transformation. However, most of these methods failed to detect crosswalks accurately, when they are damaged, faded away or partly occluded. In this paper, we solve this problem by using a region based binarization technique and xaxis histogram to detect the candidate crosswalk areas. Then we apply Support Vector Machine (SVM) based classification method to decide whether the candidate areas contain a crosswalk or not. Experiment results prove that our method can detect the crosswalks with higher recognition rate even there are faded away or partly occluded ones.
Internal Electric Fields of Flexible GaAs Solar Cells Fabricated Using Epitaxial Lift-off

We have investigated the optical and electrical properties of flexible GaAs solar cells (SCs) fabricated by the epitaxial lift-off process using photoreflectance (PR) spectroscopy. The as-grown GaAs solar cells were transferred on Au/polyimide (ELA) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS; ELP) flexible substrates. In the PR spectra, low energy interference oscillations by internal multi-reflection were observed below the GaAs transition signals. The internal electric fields (Fint) were calculated to be 98.7 and 81.8 kV/cm for the ELA and ELP SCs, respectively. SCs produced by the ELA process exhibited fewer defects and higher Fint than the ELP SC.
