What is the Role of Co-coordinator?: From Internship's Experience

        Onishi Mai,Morimoto Emi,Kamada Mahito 한국공학교육학회 2012 공학교육연구 Vol.15 No.5

Graduate Students in engineering at The University of Tokushima can take part in an educational program which is offered long-term internship opportunities (at a company or the government). Onishi, one of authors, took part in this educational program. She is studying environmental conservation at the university and is interested in environmental conservation activities led by residents. Striking a balance between environmental conservation and human economic activities is seen as important to society. However, the continuing in environmental conservation activities is difficult. Therefore, collaborative activities attract attention as a way of the continuing in environmental conservation activities. A person called “co-coordinator” is a key to make many people to participate in the sustainable collaboration activities. The main role of co-coordinator is connecting people who are interested in environmental conservation activities. The purpose of joining in environmental conservation activities is different from person to person depending on where they belong to or where they live. Onishi took part in the educational program to learn the techniques of adjusting the differing interests. She did her internship at environmental consulting company in Kamikatsu town, Tokushima prefecture. She participated in several environmental conservation activities and work experience as a coordinator. Through this experience, she learned not only the technique but also the difficulty of the work. This paper reports the results obtained from her experience.

      • Lithium polymer battery composed by aluminate polymer complex as single - ionic solid electrolytes

        Onishi, Ken,Matsumoto, Michiko,Shigehara, Kiyotaka 한국공업화학회 1999 응용화학 Vol.3 No.1

Single-ionic conductors, which promote solely the lithium ion migration (without any anion migration), have been realized as the polymeric solid electrolytes with lithium orthoaluminate repeating units carrying oligo(oxyethylene) main-chain and two side-chains of endomethoxy{oligo(oxyethylene)}. The ionic conductivity of the aluminate polymer complexes was about 10^-6∼10^-7S/cm at room temperature. Thin film lithium secondary batteries were fabricated into 5.5×4.5×O.02(thick) cm cells from TiS₂(cathode), aluminate polymer complex and lithium foil (anode). These batteries showed minimal decay of output voltage upon constant current discharging and their capacity of first cycle was about 147mAh/g. A typical bi-lonic conductor of (5%LiClO₄+aluminate polymer complex) hybrid system showed, on the contrary, rapid decay of output voltage due to the polarization.

Highly efficient CMP surveying with ground-penetrating radar utilising real-time kinematic GPS

Onishi Kyosuke,Yokota Toshiyuki,Maekawa Satoshi,Toshioka Tetsuma,Rokugawa Shuichi Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysici 2005 지구물리와 물리탐사 Vol.8 No.1

The main purpose of this paper is to describe a highly efficient common mid-point (CMP) data acquisition method for ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveying, which is intended to widen the application of GPR. The most important innovation to increase the efficiency of CMP data acquisition is continuous monitoring of the GPR antenna positions, using a real-time kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK-GPS). Survey time efficiency is improved because the automatic antenna locating system that we propose frees us from the most time-consuming process-deployment of the antenna at specified positions. Numerical experiments predicted that the data density and the CMP fold would be increased by the increased efficiency of data acquisition, which results in improved signal-to-noise ratios in the resulting data. A field experiment confirmed this hypothesis. The proposed method makes GPR surveys using CMP method more practical and popular. Furthermore, the method has the potential to supply detailed groundwater information. This is because we can convert the spatially dense dielectric constant distribution, obtained by using the CMP method we describe, into a dense physical value distribution that is closely related to such groundwater properties as water saturation.

Communication at the End of Life

Onishi, Hideki Korean Society for Hospice and Palliative Care 2021 한국호스피스.완화의료학회지 Vol.24 No.3

End-of-life patients experience physical, mental, social, and existential distress. While medical personnel provide medication and care to alleviate patients' distress, listening to and interacting with patients remains essential for understanding their psychological condition. The most important tool, though difficult to implement in practice, is end-of-life discussion (EOLD). EOLD has been shown to have positive effects on end-of-life treatment choices, achievement of patients' life goals, improvements in the quality of life of patients and their families, and the prevention of depression and complicated grief among bereaved family members. EOLD is not often undertaken in clinical practice, however, due to hesitancy among medical personnel and patients for various reasons. In order to conduct an EOLD, the patient's judgment, psychiatric illnesses such as delirium and depression, and psychological issues such as the side effects of psychotropic drugs, denial, and collusion must be evaluated. Open and honest conversation, treatment goal setting, the doctor's familiarity with the patient's background, and attentiveness when providing information are important elements for any dialogue. Meaning-centered psychotherapy was developed to alleviate the existential distress of cancer patients, and its application may promote EOLD. The future development of meaning-centered psychotherapy in practice and in research is expected to further promote EOLD.

PAIN-T A Tool for Patient Self-Assessment of Pain

Onishi, Eriko,Plumbo, Marty,Park, Soojin 인제대학교 디자인연구소 2013 Journal of Integrated Design Research (JIDR) Vol.12 No.3

Pain can provide important information to be used in treating illness. But since there is no medical device that can directly measure a patient’s pain, physicians and medical staff must rely on patients themselves to indicate the location and intensity of their pain. This task is typically accomplished using instruments that facilitate patients expressing their pain in terms of abstract schema that correlate to medical formalisms for quantifying pain. This paper examines the preliminary development and testing of PAIN-T, a novel system utilizing successful elements from existing pain assessment approaches along with the unique capabilities of multitouch tablet computers to allow patients to easily and accurately asses their own pain with a minimum of instruction and assistance.

      • Structural Analysis of STARS Satellite

Shunsuke Onishi,Tetsuo Yasaka,Masahiro Nohmi 한국항공우주학회 2008 한국항공우주학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.- No.-

This paper presents the structural analysis of STARS (Space Tethered Autonomous Robotic Satellite). STARS is a small satellite and will be launched in piggyback fashion by the Japanese launch vehicle H-2A in this fiscal year The STARS project is mainly carried out by Kagawa University, and Kyushu University is responsible for structural analysis. The satellite must satisfy the rocket's requirements in order to qualify for launch. This involves stiffness conditions and load conditions. The stiffness conditions require that the natural frequency of the satellite structure must be above a given frequency. In the load conditions. the following loads are considered: quasi-static, sinusoidal oscillation and random oscillation. It is necessary to analyze and perform experiments to satisfy these conditions. This paper presents the analysis of the natural frequencies, the quasi-static loads and the sinusoidal oscillations. The analysis uses the numerical simulation software ANSYS. Moreover, the paper explains the experiments performed: they are the surveying of the natural frequencies, the quasi-static loads, the sinusoidal oscillations and the random oscillations. The paper also compares the results of the analyses and the experiments in terms of the natural frequencies.
