MULTINATIONALITY, SIZE, AND THE MARKET PERFORMANCE
Olgun Fuat Sahin People&Global Business Association 2004 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.9 No.2
This study provides empirical evidence regarding the market performance of US based Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) for the period 1992 to 1999. The results suggest that the excess returns on MNE portfolios, formed based on the degree of multinationality, do not follow a curvilinear pattern. The risk-adjusted performance of MNEs is also examined by using the Fama French Three Factor Model. It is found that most of the abnormal performance is concentrated among small and medium size MNEs.

In this study, numerical simulations for the prediction of added resistance for KVLCC2 with varying wave steepness are performed using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method and a 3-D linear potential method, and then the non-linearities of added resistance and ship motions are investigated in regular short and long waves. Firstly, grid convergence tests in short and long waves are carried out to establish an optimal mesh system for CFD simulations. Secondly, numerical simulations are performed to predict ship added resistance and vertical motion responses in short and long waves and the results are verified using the available experimental data. Finally, the non-linearities of added resistance and ship motions with unsteady wave patterns in the time domain are investigated with the increase in wave steepness in both short and long waves. The present systematic study demonstrates that the numerical results have a reasonable agreement with the experimental data and emphasizes the non-linearity in the prediction of the added resistance and the ship motions with the increasing wave steepness in short and long waves.

A module M is called ss-semilocal if every submodule U of M has a weak supplement V in M such that U∩V is semisimple. In this paper, we provide the basic properties of ss-semilocal modules. In particular, it is proved that, for a ring R, RR is ss- semilocal if and only if every left R-module is ss-semilocal if and only if R is semilocal and Rad(R) ⊆ Soc(RR). We define projective ss-covers and prove the rings with the property that every (simple) module has a projective ss-cover are ss-semilocal.

The present study examined the use of waste containing boron impurity (BC) from boron enrichment plant for the removal of lead (II) and nickel (II) from aqueous solutions. The effects of pH, contact time, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, and temperature on the adsorption process were examined. Residual lead and nickel concentration reached in equilibrium in 90 min and the rate of adsorption by BC was rapid in the first 45 min of the reaction time. The pseudo- second-order kinetic model best described the kinetic of the adsorption. Batch adsorption studies showed that the adsorption patterns followed Langmuir isotherm model.

The purpose of this study is to investigate approximation behaviour of the generalized Kantorovich-type operators by multiple generating functions. For this aim, rstly, we introduce bivariate gener-alization of Kantorovich-type operators and study their approximation behaviour with the help of a Korovkin type theorem. Secondly, we com-pute the rate of convergence of these operators by means of the modules of continuity and the elements of Lipschitz class. Also, we give the r-th order generalization of these operators. In the last part, we give some applications to the di¤erential equations.

Giant Multilocular Cystadenoma of the Prostate: A Rare Cause of Huge Cystic Pelvic Mass
Deniz Cebi Olgun,Bulent Onal,Ismail Mihmanli,Fatih Kantarci,Haydar Durak,Hale Demir,Bulent Cetinel1 대한비뇨의학회 2012 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.53 No.3
Giant multilocular prostatic cystadenoma is a rare benign tumor that evolves from the prostate gland. Obstructive voiding symptoms occur in all reported cases. These lesions do not invade adjacent structures. Preoperative radiologic evaluation can define the benign nature of the lesion. Here we report a case of large cystic lesions identified by magnetic resonance imaging and sonographic findings that caused an extensive mass effect in the pelvis. When retrovesical, huge cystic lesions fill the pelvis completely in young men, with high levels of serum prostate-specific antigen, giant multilocular prostatic cystadenoma should be considered as a differential diagnosis. To our knowledge, this is the youngest case of prostatic cystadenoma reported in the literature.

Background: Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is a well-established method for managing postoperative and chronic pain. ESPB applications for the sacral area procedures are called sacral ESPBs (SESPBs). This cadaveric study aimed to determine the distribution of local anesthesia using the median and intermediate approaches to the SESPB.Methods: Four cadavers were categorized into the median and intermediate approach groups. Ultrasound-guided SESPBs were performed using a mixture of radiopaque agents and dye. Following confirmation of the solution distribution through computed tomography (CT), the cadavers were dissected to observe the solution distribution. Results: CT images of the median group demonstrated subcutaneous pooling of the radiopaque solution between the S1 and S5 horizontal planes. Radiopaque solution also passed from the sacral foramina to the anterior sacrum via the spinal nerves between S2 and S5. In the intermediate group, the solution distribution was observed along the bilateral erector spinae muscle between the L2 and S3 horizontal planes; no anterior transition was detected. Dissection in the median group revealed blue solution distribution in subcutaneous tissue between horizontal planes S1 and S5, but no distribution in superficial fascia or muscle. In the intermediate group, red solution was detected in the erector spinae muscle between the L2 and S3 intervertebral levels. Conclusions: Radiologic and anatomic findings revealed the presence of radiopaque dye in the superficial and erector spinae compartments in both the median and intermediate groups. However, anterior transition of the radiopaque dye was detected only in the median group.
The Effect of Insulin Like Growth Factor-1 on Recovery of Facial Nerve Crush Injury

Objectives. The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of locally applied insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) on the recovery of facial nerve functions after crush injury in a rabbit model. Methods. The rabbits were randomly assigned into three groups. Group 1 consisted of the rabbits with crush injury alone; group 2, the animals applied saline solution onto the crushed facial nerve and group 3, IGF-1 implemented to the nerve in the same manner. Facial nerve injury was first electrophysiologically studied on 10th and 42nd days of the procedure. The damage to the facial nerves was then investigated histopathologically, after sacrification of the animals. Results. In the electrophysiological study, compound muscle action potential amplitudes of the crushed nerves in the second group were decreased. In pathological specimens of the first and second groups, the orders of axons were distorted; demyelination and proliferation of Schwann cells were observed. However, in IGF-1 treated group axonal order and myelin were preserved, and Schwann cell proliferation was close to normal (P<0.05). Conclusion. Local application of IGF-1 in a slow releasing gel was found efficacious in the recovery of the facial nerve crush injury in rabbits. IGF-1 was considered worthy of being tried in clinical studies in facial nerve injury cases.
