This study proposes novel procedure for indoor activity assessment by means of continuous and quantitative measure of personal physical and mental activity, basing on contents and contexture of location and behaviors. In this article, we focussed on development of an integrated wearable instrument which is capable of both indoor movement tracking and monitoring of concurrent psycho-physiologically indicated mental activity. A body-mounted inertial instrument utilizing accelerometers, gynos, and a bolometer was designed to obtain feature of three-dimensional indoor locomotive behaviors. Skin registance change by eletro-dermal activity was measured as and index of emotional arousal. Potential usefulness for assessing indoor pedestrian was examined in our experiment with young male subjects. Continous walking in a multi-story building and its mental activities were measured. Experimental results showed that the proposed method calssified all type of movements across the floors successfully. The results suggested that the method feasibly identified subject"s behaviors and momentary emotional responses simultaneously with detailed contents of the indoor context.

In this study, nano grain W is fabricated by Severe Plastic Deformation-Powder Metallurgy (SPD-PM) process. W powder and W-Re powder mixtures are processed by SPD-PM process, a Mechanical Milling (MM) process. As results, a nano grain structure, whose grain size is approximately 20nm, is obtained in W powder after MM for 360ks. A nano grain W compact, whose grain size 630nm, has excellent deformability above 1273K. A nano grain W-10Re compact is composed of equiaxed grain, a grain growth is restrained and has low dislocation density after the large deformation; therefore it is considered that W-Re compact shows superplasticity.

Movement of center of gravity of the human body plays a crucial part in the stability of the human walking. In this paper, we have investigated the effect of aging on the acceleration of center of gravity using a portable 3D acceleration measurement system. Acceleration of the center of gravity data of young and elderly subjects is analyzed during normal walking using detrended fluctuation analysis technique. It was observed that the scaling exponents of elderly subjects in short term region are less than young subjects. It shows that walking of elderly subjects is less correlated in the short-term region putting them on more risk of falls.

The SrO(SrTiO3)1 (Sr2TiO4) Ruddlesden Popper (RP) phase is a natural superlattice comprising of alternately stackingperovskite-type SrTiO3layers and rock salt SrO layers along the crystallographic c direction. This paper discusses theproperties of the Sr2TiO4and (La, Sm)-doped Sr2TiO4RP phase synthesized via molten salt method, within the context ofthermoelectric applications. A good thermoelectric material requires high electrical conductivity, high Seebeck coefficientand low thermal conductivity. All three conditions have the potential to be fulfilled by the Sr2TiO4RP phase, in particular, the superlattice structure allows a higher degree of phonon scattering hence resulting in lowered thermal conductivity. In thiswork, the Sr2TiO4RP phase is doped with Sm and La respectively, which allows injection of charge carriers, modification ofits electronic structure for improvement of the Seebeck coefficient, and most significantly, reduction of thermal conductivity. The particles with submicron size allows excessive phonon scattering along the boundaries, thus reduces the thermalconductivity by fourfold. In particular, the Sm-doped sample exhibited even lower lattice thermal conductivity, which isbelieved to be due to the mismatch in the ionic radius of Sr and Sm. This finding is useful as a strategy to reduce thermalconductivity of Sr2TiO4RP phase materials as thermoelectric candidates, by employing dopants of differing ionic radius.

Objective: The mechanisms of neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD) and neurogenic bladder (NB), which are major consequences of spinal cord injury and occasionally degenerative lumbar disease. The following in patients with cauda equina syndrome who underwent posterior decompression surgery was investigated: (1) the preoperative prevalence of NBD and NB, measured using the Constipation Scoring System (CSS) and International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS); (2) the degree and timing of postoperative improvement of NBD and NB. Methods: We administered the CSS and IPSS in 93 patients before surgery and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. We prospectively examined patient characteristics, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, and postoperative improvements in each score. Results: The prevalence of symptomatic defecation and urinary symptoms at admission were 37 patients (38.1%) and 31 patients (33.3%), respectively. Among the symptomatic patients with defecation problems, 12 patients had improved at 1 month, 13 at 3 months, 14 at 6 months, and 13 at 12 months postoperatively. Among the symptomatic patients with urinary problems, 5 patients improved at 1 month, 11 at 3 months, 6 at 6 months, and 10 at 1 year postoperatively. Comparing patients with improved versus unimproved in CSS, the degree of JOA score improvement was a significant prognosis factor (p<0.05; odds ratio, 1.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of symptomatic defecation and urinary symptoms in patients with cauda equina syndrome was 38.1% and 33.3%, respectively. Decompression surgery improved symptoms in 30%–50%. These effects were first observed 1 month after the operation and persisted up to 1 year.
