Let X be a completely regular Hausdorff space, and E and F be Banach spaces. Let $C_{rc}(X,E)$ be the Banach space of all continuous functions $f:X{\rightarrow}E$ such that f(X) is a relatively compact set in E. We establish an integral representation theorem for bounded linear operators $T:C_{rc}(X,E){\rightarrow}F$. We characterize continuous operators from $C_{rc}(X,E)$, provided with the strict topologies ${\beta}_z(X,E)$ ($z={\sigma},{\tau}$) to F, in terms of their representing operator-valued measures.

Synthesis of <i>trans</i>-A₂B₂-Porphyrins Bearing Phenylethynyl Substituents

<P>Efficient and convenient conditions for the preparation of <I>trans</I>-A<SUB>2</SUB>B<SUB>2</SUB>-porphyrins bearing two phenylethynyl moieties directly from phenylpropargyl aldehydes and dipyrromethanes of diversified lipophilicity and reactivity have been developed. This new procedure allows the preparation of a library of porphyrins of this architecture with a wide range of substituents. Thanks to the identification of the reagent solubility as one of the key factors influencing the yield of the porphyrinogens, we were able to improve yields to ca. 30%. The scope and limitations of two sets of conditions have been explored. The methodological advantage of this approach is its straightforward access to building blocks and the formation of the porphyrin core in the last step without the need for deprotection of the triple bond or bromination and consecutive coupling reaction, which often demands copper salts to proceed smoothly, especially with electron-deficient alkyne partners. Therefore, it prevents undesired copper porphyrin formation, as well as the need for utilizing expensive alkynes. Photoinduced electron transfer (PET) <i>versus</i> excimer formation in supramolecular p/n-heterojunctions of perylene bisimide dyes and implications for organic photovoltaics

<P>Foldamer systems comprised of two perylene bisimide (PBI) dyes attached to the conjugated backbones of 1,2-bis(phenylethynyl)benzene and phenylethynyl-bis(phenylene)indane, respectively, were synthesized and investigated with regard to their solvent-dependent properties. UV/Vis absorption and steady-state fluorescence spectra show that both foldamers exist predominantly in a folded H-aggregated state consisting of π–π-stacked PBIs in THF and in more random conformations with weaker excitonic coupling between the PBIs in chloroform. Time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and transient absorption spectroscopy reveal entirely different relaxation pathways for the photoexcited molecules in the given solvents, <I>i.e.</I> photoinduced electron transfer leading to charge separated states for the open conformations (in chloroform) and relaxation into excimer states with red-shifted emission for the stacked conformations (in THF). Supported by redox data from cyclic voltammetry and Rehm–Weller analysis we could relate the processes occurring in these solution-phase model systems to the elementary processes in organic solar cells. Accordingly, only if relaxation pathways such as excimer formation are strictly avoided in molecular semiconductor materials, excitons may diffuse over larger distances to the heterojunction interface and produce photocurrent <I>via</I> the formation of electron/hole pairs by photoinduced electron transfer.</P>

Zarys przyszłej klasyfikacji dyscyplin językoznawczych (kilka porządkujących uwag)

The article aims to provide a basis of classification of linguistic disciplines. Referring to a few simple criteria, the author proposes a number of proprietary solutions. Body of the paper focuses on the issues related to the ranges of linguistic disciplines and subjects of interest to them. Zdawałoby się, że problem klasyfikacji dziedzin lingwistycznych nie istnieje. Każda osoba bliżej zainteresowana językiem, a już z pewnością każdy językoznawca, potrafi jednym tchem wymienić cały ich szereg, jak również – co chyba zresztą ważniejsze – zidentyfikować (mniej więcej) problem i dyscyplinę, na gruncie której problem ów należy zlokalizować i rozwiązać. Zdarzają się jednak sytuacje, kiedy okazuje się, że nawet lingwiści nie do końca są świadomi relacji, w jakie zakresy poszczególnych dziedzin ze sobą wchodzą. Bywa, że postrzegają ogół dyscyplin bardziej jako pewien ciąg niż wielopiętrową strukturę; inna sprawa, że nagminnie mieszają ze sobą dwa porządki: ontologiczny i gnoseologiczny, czyli to, co (dyscypliny) i jak (programy) badać, co prowadzi do tego, że zamiennie używają etykietek właściwych różnym poziomom refleksji (por. lingwistyka kulturowa vs lingwistyka kognitywna). Żeby się o tym przekonać, wystarczy przyjrzeć się tabliczkom, które od lat zdobią drzwi pracowni, zakładów i katedr (w wielu instytutach oraz na wielu wydziałach). Można się tam natknąć na całą paletę rozmaitych błędów semantycznych, mających – moim zdaniem – swe źródło w niedostatkach refleksji nad hierarchizacją dyscyplin w lingwistyce, por. błędy polegające na utożsamianiu różnych poziomów refleksji, krzyżowaniu się zakresów wymienianych dyscyplin, a także ich inkluzji, por. odpowiednio: Zakład Socjolingwistyki i Społecznych Praktyk Komunikowania, Zakład Leksykologii i Semantyki czy Zakład Teorii Tekstu i Dyskursu. Muszę w tym miejscu przyznać, że lektura nazw jednostek naukowo-dydaktycznych w całej Polsce (a być może i na całym świecie) dostarcza pod tym względem nieocenionych inspiracji (sądzę, że tematyce tej warto poświęcić odrębne opracowanie). Lingwistyka (językoznawstwo) stanowi współcześnie kompleks kilkuset mniej lub bardziej szczegółowych dyscyplin: działów, dziedzin i gałęzi. Nie sposób ich wszystkich wyodrębnić, przywołać i scharakteryzować; można jednak podjąć próbę ich systematyzacji (klasyfikacji). Wedle mojej najlepszej wiedzy, nie istnieje aktualnie żadna (a z pewnością nie istnieje jedna powszechnie akceptowana) klasyfikacja (co najmniej typologia) dyscyplin językoznawczych. Chciałbym zatem zaproponować zarys (szkic) przyszłego podziału dziedzin lingwistycznych, opierający się na kilku skorelowanych ze sobą kryteriach. Przegląd bez mała setek dyscyplin utwierdził mnie w przekonaniu, że nie istnieje możliwość konstrukcji spiętrzonego podziału lingwistycznych dziedzin bez uwzględnienia jej wielowymiarowego i wielopoziomowego (w nieprzenośnym tego słowa znaczeniu) charakteru. Zacznijmy jednak od ustalenia uniwersum, na którym będą przeprowadzane kolejno operacje wydzielania poszczególnych klas i podklas, a tak naprawdę od przeglądu sposobów wyodrębniania naukowych dyscyplin, w tym również – (stanowiącej dla swoich subdyscyplin genus proximum) lingwistyki. (Ponieważ artykuł ten ma charakter propedeutyczny, zdecydowałem się na schematyczny porządek wywodu. Jako że znakomita większość poruszanych w tej pracy wątków odwołuje się do wiedzy o językoznawstwie, która pozostaje w szerokim obiegu, a ponadto nieomal wszystkie pomysły klasyfikacyjne i typologiczne formułuję samodzielnie, nie zamieszczam „na każdym kroku” informacji bibliograficznych, ograniczając się tylko do zasygnalizowania bibliograficznego tła).

This work is intended by the author's part and also the prelude to a larger whole. Of concern in the article is the class of predicates inference, in particular a substantial part of it, namely verbs of inference – from the most representative for the whole of this class expression: [a] wywnioskował z [czegośp], że [q]. Inference predicates interest me primarily because of its importance: systemic (potential), synchronous (real) and local (Polish). Goal that I set myself (in the near term), is reduced to the reconstruction of the semantic representation of selected expressions (representatives of the class in question), and more precisely to formulate their dictionary definitions (lexicographical portraits) in terms of semantic components (as necessary conditions separately and jointly sufficient) The method by which I reach, meaning interesting question on my unit, part of a program of structuralist and refers to two more specific concepts: reducing component semantics and natural semantic metalanguage. Of course, this paper will confine itself to outline the general characteristics (pan) of that class and formulate a series of initial hypotheses, which deals with the verification of some time in the cycle of works devoted to particular verbs inference.
