Functional Neuroimaging in Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Systematic Review Highlights Common Brain Alterations With Functional Movement Disorders

        Veronica Nisticò,Roberta E Rossi,Andrea M D’Arrigo,Alberto Priori,Orsola Gambini,Benedetta Demartini 대한소화기 기능성질환∙운동학회 2022 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.28 No.2

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by recurring abdominal pain and altered bowel habits without detectable organic causes. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the literature on functional neuroimaging in IBS and to highlight brain alterations similarities with other functional disorders - functional movement disorders in particular. We conducted the bibliographic search via PubMed in August 2020 and included 50 studies following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for systematic reviews. Overall, our findings showed an aberrant activation and functional connectivity of the insular, cingulate, sensorimotor and frontal cortices, the amygdala and the hippocampus, suggesting an altered activity of the homeostatic and salience network and of the autonomous nervous system. Moreover, glutamatergic dysfunction in the anterior insula and hypothalamic pituitary axis dysregulation were often reported. These alterations seem to be very similar to those observed in patients with functional movement disorders. Hence, we speculate that different functional disturbances might share a common pathophysiology and we discussed our findings in the light of a Bayesian model framework.

Probabilistic sensitivity analysis of multi-span highway bridges

        M. Bayat,F. Daneshjoo,N. Nisticò 국제구조공학회 2015 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.19 No.1

In this study, we try to compare different intensity measures for evaluating nonlinear response of bridge structure. This paper presents seismic analytic fragility of a three-span concrete girder highway bridge. A complete detail of bridge modeling parameters and also its verification has been presented. Fragility function considers the relationship of intensities of the ground motion and probability of exceeding certain state of damage. Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) has been subjected to the bridge from medium to strong ground motions. A suite of 20 earthquake ground motions with different range of PGAs are used in nonlinear dynamic analysis of the bridge. Complete sensitive analyses have been done on the response of bridge and also efficiency and practically of them are studied to obtain a proficient intensity measure for these types of structure by considering its sensitivity to the period of the bridge. Three dimensional finite element (FE) model of the bridge is developed and analyzed. The numerical results show that the bridge response is very sensitive to the earthquake ground motions when PGA and Sa (Ti, 5%) are used as intensity measure (IM) and also indicated that the failure probability of the bridge system is dominated by the bridge piers.

A novel proficient and sufficient intensity measure for probabilistic analysis of skewed highway bridges

        M. Bayat,F. Daneshjoo,N. Nistico 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.55 No.6

In this paper, a new intensity measure of earthquakes for probabilistic seismic analysis is presented for skewed highway bridges. Three different cases of skewed bridges with different skew angles (0o, 30o and 45o) are considered. Well-known intensity measures (e.g., PGA, Sa) are evaluated and critically discussed based on sensitivity analysis: efficiency, practically, proficiency and sufficiency of intensity measures are considered in detail. The analyses demonstrated that the intensity measures have to take into account structural acceleration on a wide range of periods so that a new seismic intensity measure is proposed showing that it has less dispersion compared to others. Since the proposed intensity represents the average value of the Sa (between a lower and upper structural period) it has been called Averaged Spectral Acceleration (ASA). Based on performed incremental dynamic analysis (IDA), the seismic analytical fragility curves of typical skewed highway bridges have been evaluated for different states of damage controlling the low dispersion of the ASA index as well as its proficiency and sufficiency.

Seismic evaluation of isolated skewed bridges using fragility function methodology

        M. Bayat,F. Daneshjoo,N. Nisticò,J. Pejovic 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2017 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.20 No.4

A methodology, based on fragility functions, is proposed to evaluate the seismic performance of seismic isolated 45° skewed concrete bridge: 1) twelve types of seismic isolation devices are considered based on two different design parameters 2) fragility functions of a three-span bridge with and without seismic isolation devices are analytically evaluated based on 3D nonlinear incremental dynamic analyses which seismic input consists of 20 selected ground motions. The optimum combinations of isolation device design parameters are identified comparing, for different limit states, the performance of 1) the Seismic Isolated Bridges (SIB) and 2) Not Seismic Isolated Bridge (NSIB) designed according to the AASHTO standards.
