Studies have shown that smoking is a learnt behavior, often initiated during adolescence. This paper aims to describe tobacco-related knowledge, attitude and associations among school adolescents aged 13-15 with exposure to anti-smoking information. Using data from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Viet Nam, 2014, knowledge was measured through 4 questions about tobacco use, and attitude was assessed through 3 questions on personal, social and environmental aspects. Students giving most anti-tobacco responses to all questions were considered as having correct knowledge or appropriate attitude or both. Access to anti-smoking information was determined by exposure to any media messages on tobacco control during the past 30 days and teaching in school about the danger of tobacco use during the past 12 months. A substantial percentage of students thought that being near others who smoke might be harmful to them and smoking is harmful to health (89.4% and 89.6% respectively). However, only 46.4% reported that it is definitely difficult to quit smoking and 66.9% thought that smoking for only 1 or 2 years, once stopped, is harmful to health. Slightly more than half of the respondents reported appropriate attitude that young smokers have fewer friends than others and smoking makes them less attractive and less comfortable at social events. Noticing anti-smoking messages in the media together with having lessons in school about the dangers of tobacco substantially increased the likelihood of having correct knowledge, appropriate attitude and both. Despite relatively high awareness about smoking harms, effective educational communication is still highly needed to improve the level of comprehensive knowledge and an appropriate attitude regarding tobacco use.

Abstract

A fluorescent chemosensor based on dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde-aminothiourea (DA) has been designed, synthesized, and applied with a combined theoretical and experimental study. The synthetic path, optimized molecular structure and characteristics of DA were carried out using the calculations at the B3LYP/LanL2DZ level of theory. The experimental investigations have a good agreement with the theoretical results. DA can be used as a chemosensor for simultaneous quantification of silver, copper, and mercury ions in aqueous solution at the ppb level. The stable geometric structures of the complexes between DA and Ag+, Hg2+, Cu2+ with stoichiometry of 1:1, 2:1, and 2:1, have been found and investigated for electronic properties and fluorescence quenching phenomena by using Atoms in Molecules (AIM) and Natural Bond Orbitals (NBO) analyses.

Highlights

A chemosensor has been studied with a combined theoretical and experimental study.

Suitable for detecting trace amounts of Ag(I), Hg(II), Cu(II) ions at the ppb concentration level.

High water solubility, simplicity, rapid analysis time, wide range of pH.

The stable geometric structures of the complexes have been found and investigated.

The fluorescence quenching of complexes is studied by using AIM and NBO analyses.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

One Rank Cuckoo Search Algorithm for Bi-Objective Load Dispatch Problem
Cuong Dinh Tran,Thang Trung Nguyen,Hanh Minh Hoang,Bao Quoc Nguyen 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.9 No.4
This paper presents the application of a One Rank Cuckoo Search Algorithm (ORCSA) to bi-objective load dispatch (BOLD) problem where two objectives including fuel and emission are taken into consideration. ORCSA is an improvement of basic Cuckoo search algorithm (BCSA) where several modifications are carried out so as to improve the performance of the BCSA. The performance of the proposed ORCSA is validated by using two systems including a three-unit system with one load case and a six-unit system with three load cases and comparing the obtained results with other methods available in the article. The analysis on the result comparison indicates that the ORCSA is very efficient for the problem.

In this paper, we analyze the downlink outage performance of opportunistic scheduling in dual-hop cooperative networks consisting of one source, multiple radio-frequency energy harvesting relays, and multiple destinations. To this end, two low-complexity, suboptimal, yet efficient, relay-destination selection schemes are proposed, namely direct links plus opportunistic channel state information (CSI)-based selection (DOS) scheme and direct links plus partial CSI-based selection (DPS) scheme. Considering three relaying strategies, i.e., decode-and-forward (DF), variable-gain amplify-and-forward (VG-AF), and fixed-gain amplify-and-forward (FG-AF), the performance analysis in terms of outage probability (OP) is carried out for each selection scheme. For the DF and VG-AF strategies, exact analytical expressions and tight closed-form approximate expressions for the OP are derived. For the FG-AF strategy, an exact closed-form expression for the OP is provided. Additionally, we propose a gradient-based search method to find the optimal values of the power-splitting ratio that minimizes the attained OPs. The developed analysis is corroborated through Monte Carlo simulation. Comparisons with the optimal joint selection scheme are performed and it is shown that the proposed schemes significantly reduce the amount of channel estimations while achieving comparable outage performance. In addition, regardless of relaying strategy used, numerical results show that the DOS scheme achieves full diversity gain, i.e., M+K, and the DPS scheme achieves the diversity gain of M+1, where M and K are the numbers of destinations and relays, respectively.
