      • Omnidirectionally stretchable, high performance supercapacitors based on a graphene-carbon-nanotube layered structure

        Nam, I.,Bae, S.,Park, S.,Yoo, Y.G.,Lee, J.M.,Han, J.W.,Yi, J. Elsevier 2015 Nano energy Vol.15 No.-

The development of stretchable energy storage systems for fully power-independent and stretchable devices for the next generation is increasing. Here, we report on a graphene-carbon-nanotube-layered structure for use as a stretchable electrode and its application in all-solid-state stretchable supercapacitors and various electronics. In this system, graphene serves as a floating track and carbon nanotubes convert external stress into the stretching motion of the electrode. The structure provides omnidirectional deformation without inhomogeneous interface stress and slip stress between active sites and the stretching passive components. The suggested system offers significant improvement over existing methodologies for fabricating stretchable energy storage systems and electronics in terms of density of capacitance, negligible passive volume, biaxial and twisted deformation, and durability. The integration of stretchable electrodes in various substrates and their application as all-solid-state, stretchable supercapacitors are demonstrated, and a high value of capacitance in the deformed state of 329Fg-1 was achieved (based on mass of the graphene). The physical characteristics of the system are also revealed by first-principle calculations and three-dimensional finite-element methods.

Use of Ecosystem Flux Data and a Simulation Model to Examine Seasonal Drought Effects on a Subtropical Coniferous Forest

        Na Mi,Guirui Yu,Wuefa Wen,Xiaomin Sun,Shusen Wang,Leiming Zhang,Xia Song 한국기상학회 2009 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.45 No.2

The Qianyanzhou (QYZ) forest site is located in the mid-subtropical region under typical subtropical continentalmonsoon climate. Despite its plentiful water and heat resources, changes in their seasonal distributions result in frequent occurrences of seasonal drought, influencing both the structure and function of forest ecosystems. In order to examine the effects of drought stress on energy and water fluxes and the related physiological processes, we used tower flux measurements from 2003 and 2004 from the QYZ site and the ecosystemmodel EALCO (Ecological Assimilation of Land and Climate Observations). The model explained almost 90%of the variance in the daily LE for both years; whereas 71%and 55% of the variance in H for 2003 and 2004, respectively. Simulations suggested that, during the 2003 summer drought, about 80% of water extraction by roots occurred below 0.45 m, and canopy stomatal conductance decreased in response to soil dryness at a threshold r (relative water content) of 0.5 m. The response of canopy stomatal conductance appeared to be linked to the soil water exposed to themajority of the roots, even if substantialwater was being extracted fromgreater depth. The decrease of canopy stomatal conductance made the ratio of transpiration to ET relatively constant along the years with only a small difference. The different extent of the seasonal drought resulted in different water fluxes for the two years with more distinct influence on evaporation than on transpiration.

Observation of crystalline changes of titanium dioxide during lithium insertion by visible spectrum analysis

        Nam, I.,Park, J.,Park, S.,Bae, S.,Yoo, Y.,Han, J.,Yi, J. Royal Society of Chemistry 2017 Physical chemistry chemical physics Vol.19 No.20

<P>Real-time analysis of changes in the atomic environment of materials is a cutting edge technology that is being used to explain reaction dynamics in many fields of science. Previously, this kind of analysis was only possible using heavy nucleonic equipment such as XANES and EXAFS, or Raman spectroscopy on a moderate scale. Here, a new methodology is described that can be used to track changes in crystalline developments during complex Li insertion reactions via the observation of structural color. To be specific, the changes in atomic crystalline and nanostructure are shown during Li insertion in a complex TiO2 polymorph. Structural color corresponds to the refractive indices of materials originating from their atomic bonding nature and precise wave interferences in accordance with their nanostructure. Therefore, this new analysis simultaneously reveals changes in the nanostructure as well as changes in the atomic bonding nature of materials.</P>

‘화이부동(和而不同)’으로 본 한국 공화주의 : 안창호의 사상을 중심으로

        이나미 ( Lee¸ Na-mi ) 한서대학교 동양고전연구소 2021 동방학 Vol.0 No.44

The purpose of this article is to clarify how the spirit of “Harmony but Not Uniformity(和而不同)” is related to republicanism and how it is embodied in the Korean republican tradition. In particular, I tried to examine it through the ideas of Ahn Chang-ho, a representative modern republican. Factors such as freedom, interference, power, pluralism, community, and common good have become the main issues in the modern discussion of Western republicanism, and these are concepts closely related to “Harmony but Not Uniformity.” For example, 'Not Uniformity' has something in common with freedom and pluralism, and is critical of interference or power. 'Harmony' is a concept that can contribute to the community and the common good. Hence, the Eastern “Harmony but Not Uniformity” spirit shows the possibility of integration between conflicting Western republican values. When we unravel the meaning of “Harmony but Not Uniformity” in relation to politics or social relations, it can be presented in three ways: emphasis on individuality and diversity, non-domination and decentralization, and mutual aid. While emphasizing unity, Ahn Chang-ho also emphasized the opinions of individuals, opposed the unilateral domination of one group or power, and aimed for a society full of love and affection.

Discordance in Spirometric Interpretations Based on Korean and Non-Korean Reference Equations

        Nami Kim,Mi-Hee Park,Se-yeong Kim,Chunhui Suh,Sangyoon Lee,Kun-Hyung Kim,Chae-Kwan Lee,Dae-Hwan Kim,Jong-Tae Lee 대한직업환경의학회 2013 대한직업환경의학회지 Vol.25 No.-

Objectives: Korean regression models for spirometric reference values are different from those of other ethnic groups. The purpose of this study was to evaluate discordance in spirometric interpretations based on using Korean reference equations versus non-Korean reference equations. Methods: Spirometry was performed on 825 Korean male workers from April 2009 to November 2011. The spirometric patterns and disease severity were evaluated using two Korean equations (Choi’s and Lee’s) and three equations for Caucasians (NHANES III, Morris’s, and Knudson’s), and the results of Choi’s equation were compared with the non-Korean equations. The spirometric patterns were defined as normal, restrictive, and mild and moderate obstructive. Results: The mean differences in the FEV1% and FVC% between the two Korean equations were 2.0 ± 1.3% and 3.5 ± 2.2%, respectively. Morris’s equation had the greatest difference in the FEV1% from Choi’s equation: 32.9 ± 8.5%. Knudson’s equation had the greatest difference in the FVC% from Choi’s equation: 10.5 ± 6.5%. Conclusions: The two Korean equations shared similar characteristics of spirometric interpretation. The spirometric interpretations of Choi’s equation were significantly different from those of Morris’s equation and Knudson’s equation.

Reading as Close Encounter: The Intimacy of "You" in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "The Thing Around Your Neck"

        ( Nami Shin ) 한국영미문학페미니즘학회 2017 영미문학페미니즘 Vol.25 No.3

Compared to first and third person narration, second-person narration has held a less frequent presence within modern prose fiction. Due to its rare occurrence, scholars have given it little critical attention. It was not until the early 1990s that second-person narration came to be recognized and discussed by critics in more extensive ways. A distinctive feature of the second-person voice that differentiates it from other modes of narration is that it creates a peculiar kind of experience for the reader. It invites active reader involvement by making the reader feel as if being addressed. Drawing upon the insights of recent critical work on second-person voice and its impact on the way the reader comes to relate to the story's character, this essay examines how second-person narration in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's short story, "The Thing Around Your Neck," offers an innovative means for exploring the precarious nature of contemporary migratory life experienced by women in the Nigerian diaspora. I argue that the intimacy of second-person narration allows the reader to closely engage with the female migrant's affective state and internal struggles. In "The Thing Around Your Neck," the text emerges as a powerful medium through which the reader is able to connect with a figure that holds a rather invisible and highly marginalized place in society.
